  • Running once to twice a day, the "Shoreline Excursion" is Cape Cod Central's main excursion from Hyannis to the Canal and back.
Due to heavy Cape Cod traffic, this train can be very difficult to chase. We started on the Hyannis Branch at Oak Ave, in Yarmouth just a few miles north of Hyannis but we got off to a bad start on the chase. We hit two long red lights before even getting on the 6A (the main road) and numerous slow drivers and several minutes stopped at construction put a damper on the chase. We continued west listening intently for the RS3L but didn't hear it until Sandwich, very close to the"run around" for the excursion. We went straight to South Sagamore and filmed the GP9RM running around it's train and departing for Hyannis. We were running out of time but we were confident on the return chase. More and more heavy traffic and slow drivers kept us just behind the train until East Sandwich where we just made it to Crandberry Highway, an easy spot to park and get away. Our last hopefull shot was Bridges Creek and thankfully the traffic let up for a time and we made it with time to spare! It was a great time getting to know the chase across Cape Cod and I'll be doing it many times in the future so stay tuned!
