You should still work and use that job as a stepping stone for your career. Even if you hate it, you can still learn certain skills. Even if you applied for a perfect job, you might lose it to another person that did work the crummy jobs first because he has more work experience.

Hello saw your comment come up through the notifications but when I clicked it, it wouldn't generate whatever comment you replied under. I live in Philadelphia not to far from you an I get by fine as a single adult. I wouldn't rent a one bedroom apartment in nyc $2000 plus. I also wouldn't live in nyc. My organization would in crease my salary to reflect the cost of living in nyc. Per Philadelphia 38k is more than enough to live off of if you make it work. I rent a 1 bedroom apartment for 800 a month. Many people have been moving down to Philly from NYC because it's alot cheaper. Which will make everything else go up eventually. However if I lived in NYC off my salary and j couldn't find a studio id consider splitting with roommates. It would be annoying but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. In cities like NYC, LA, Seattle the cost of living is beyond even a liveable wage. Landlords have to raise rents to make what they can't off tenants who can't be evicted and aren't paying to new tenants to make the difference so you're not just paying for yourself but your also paying for the other guy in a sense.

I decided to leave my warehouse job in May to commit to a career that I'd put off for years, thinking it would come eventually on its own. Stayed at my family's with no unemployment benefits, living solely on saved money. I'd cook my meals, lock myself upstairs, and do personal work on my computer every day.
While family is out having fun, the kids would come over and ask why I stayed home all the time. My folks wanted me to pursue other options instead of chasing something that never produced results in the past. After all, life only gets harder and family won't be around forever.
In the end, I got two offers, both of which would double my income, and my career is in art. I was flown out for an interview, all expenses paid, and the guys told me to my face how much they valued my work. I put up with the shame because I wanted a better life for myself in the short term. For me, it had nothing to do with "not going to work" or being "lazy". I just knew my worth and knew where my strengths were, and I decided to act.

He somehow can't comprehend how labor pay has stagnated since the 1950's yet his self-help program has helped him become incredibly wealthy. Often tuition assistance tops out at $1000 per semester. Now that's still nice to get, but don't act like companies offering *some* tuition assistance guarantees you won't go into debt to go to school. Even without dependents, $2400/month (that magic $15/hr) in many places doesn't stretch far.
