I couldn't think of an ASMR professor before! The mix of knowledge and relaxation. This is a must-watch channel for everyone on RUclips.
You are like my tutor and my counselor mixed together
hehe :)
I like the socio-political tie-in to mathematics. 👌🏽
Me too :)
Fed Funds rate is not the rate for borrowing from the Fed (I know, its confusing). It's actually the rate banks charge each other for their reserves at the fed. There's a different smaller rate for borrowing from the Fed and you don't want to do that because it makes you look very bad. It implies other banks won't lend to you and that you might not be doing your job well as a bank.
There's an issue with your BOJ example. You say that if the growth rate stays at 10% or whatever the government wil eventually own everything. Thats only true if the size of the pie doesn't grow. Also, that 10% is what they are gaining from their stock purchases, and what those private companies themselves are growing at too. The only way for the BOJ to own more is to buy at a faster rate, or consistantly buy above average stocks (very difficult to do over time). Really interesting info about the BOJ in 2016 though, had no idea they were that heavily involved.
Your experience with honey being more expensive, specifically, should more owe to 1: fewer beekeepers today, 2: beekeepers having lower yields because of the Varroa mite and the lower survivability of hives, and 3: higher mortality rates stemming from agricultural toxins such as neonicotinoids. It's really an ecological problem more than a purely economical. The two are linked, of course.
Oh i have no doubt it's related to big agro and the chemicals we use. I actually put out a video on this 10 years ago, back in 2007, trying to do my part as a node and pass on the info. Here it is if you're interested and please keep in mind that I made this when I was just getting started so it's a little rough: ruclips.net/video/lWQdrSCcJoU/видео.html
Chycho - What can I say? I discovered your channel about two months ago, and you have had a profound impact on my ability to relax and wind down. All while learning about topics you are obviously passionate about. Your voice/presentation is divine. I particularly love your videos on comics, but have been working my way through your math vids. Best wishes and peace from New York :)
Thanks, brother. Lots of love from the west coast of Canada. Peace :)
This is 2022 intrest rate is getting raised every 10 seconds
So cool that you keep doing these videos, you, like everyone, could be doing anything, or nothing. (Most people do the latter) Yet you choose to continue your endeavour of sharing knowledge. While also managing to make it interesting, and relax people all at once. You're a special person Chycho (fact)
ha... thanks, brother. Not sure how much of a "fact" you're last comment is though, I think we're all special, but I do appreciate the complement very much, thank you.
As for my work, it's my creative outlet to a large degree and it allows me to sleep well at night, so I love doing this. I also appreciate the opportunity to do so. 15 years ago what I'm doing now was not possible. Crazy!
Learned more financial technique in this video than in my entire formal education, thank you so much
As much as I love comics, Chycho's math videos are the crown jewel of his channel :-) I didn't know that US interest rates were generally around 20% in the 80s. Let's put the formula to use that we learned and assume a loan of $50000 (to buy a not very luxurious house in the 1980s) and give ourselves 5 years to pay this back. We would then have to come up with 50000x1.2^5=124416! Or (more realistically) extend the loan to 10 years and 5x10^4x1.2^10 which amounts to nearly $310 000! (I assume it's only in theory that long-term loans would be continually at an interest rate of 20%...)
I never watch men doing ASMR videos (just cause it doesn't do anything for me), but I'm glad I tuned in to this one! Super educational. Thanks :)
You're very welcome. Peace :)
More people need this video especially young adults to understand finances such as myself , I wish you were my one of my HS teachers or professors ... your easy to follow ! Thank you for posting , I watch your videos daily to learn something new
Cool, a daily dose of chycho. Eating pomegranates, reading comics, and doing math. Life doesn't get any better... not until we start playing games that is :)
And thanks for the love, Tiara, I do agree, I wish our education system was in a better condition. Getting the youth to learn this material, acquire these tools, should be a priority for our society.
Well time is not infinite and you can't say the interest rate is fixed or non negative forever. You can't even say the currency will last forever or they'll be world war or a revolution.
It makes more sense to compare growth of capital for different types of capital. Or growth in the economy versus capital in the economy is more instructive on trends for capital accumulation.
I'm actually going to be doing a follow-up to this video in the next couple of weeks which will provide a little more info. Hope you stick around to see it.
Of course! I have been watching your videos for years chycho.
Awesome! It's been an amazing ride being here so far and I hope you've been enjoying it, both the ups and the down - I'm sure there have been some downs, not that I can recall right now though :)
By the way, what brought you here? That math, beards, food, comics...??
As a fellow math enthousiast, I love your work. Hope you gain a lot of energy from doing this and the community's response to it so you can keep doing this for a long time :).
Thanks for the love, Raphaël. Peace :)
I'm not a huge fan of math but this was nice to watch
30:35 shouldn't that be 59 cents?
Thank you, indeed it should be, nice catch :)
Thank you. Great video.
Chycho, I respect you and your knowledge and the kindness you bring.
We have a big problem. If we are to assume that we are being fleeced by big money and banks. Which I believe we are.
Thanks for the love, brother, and agreed, we're witnessing the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the ruling class in history, basically a theft that will effect generations to come. At some point we will have to do something about this, I just hope it's peaceful and just.
I can't believe this exists! What a time to be alive! Subscribing x
Can't believe I have the means, the platform, and the audience to create and share content like this. Amazing times indeed... and welcome to my channel. I hope you enjoy your stay :)
First time watching one of your videos but I am confused You seem to switch back and forth between carrying debt and carrying bonds. The first half made a very good case for the power of compound interest but after 50:00 I couldn't make heads or tails of what you were saying. The continuity was non-existent.
When you started talking about debt I expected to see some mortgage curves but I got a really muddled graph where you switch back and forth between who pays and who is paid and I don't even know if mortgage curves are anything like what you were discussing or not.
This wasn't just about mortgages, it was about interest, or better yet, the rate of return and how that accumulates over time and what it could mean, and how it relates to our society.
Thanks a lot, amazing content ! Really, (this message goes for this video and the few more I saw since I discover this a few days ago :). Science + ASMR is a really good association.
Thanks, Thomas, and I agree, science and ASMR were meant to be together.
...by the way, welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy your stay :)
Hi chycho. I was wondering if you could do a video about the basics of the stock market. I'd really like to learn about it and im sure im not alone. Thanks for the great content.
You're very welcome, Davide, and for sure, at some point we do have to hit this up so I'll start putting some of the info together and see what I come up with. The odds are I'll try and slip in a set of videos towards the beginning of next year. Cool?
awesome, thanks alot man!
My pleasure, brother, and if you don't see any videos uploaded by the end of February then just send me a reminder and I'll get the ball rolling on it. Helps me to stick to a schedule as close as I can :)
will definitely do that man. Thanks for considering my comment, looking forward to it!:)
me too :)
Wow really cool Idea and very nice volume!
Hey Chycho :) Great video!
Just wanted to ask, do you have any tips for a person that isn't very interested in math but *wants* to make it interesting?
It's a matter of fact of wanting to learn rather than must learn.
Thanks, Rayden, glad you liked the video.
As for advice on what you can do to help you get motivated to learn math. The advice I give almost everyone is this, math can be used as a tool to help you with almost any task, so the question you should be asking yourself is this, 'what do I like to do, and how can learning math help me do what I like to do better?'
So my question to you is, what are you interested in? And how can math help you with that?
As well, keep in mind, the perspective that math offers is equivalent to knowing another language. There are things you can say in certain languages that you can not say in others. Math offers that perspective for every language.
Relearning math because of you!
Best complement. Let me know if you need any help :))
Don't get a single word you say , cuz english is not my mother language but I still like it ^^
:))
An hour and a half you are a bro beast much love
:)
amazing! Thank you!
You're very welcome :)
Hello Serj Tankian.
I love math
I just invested 100 for my great gran son
haha... hope you got a good rate of return on that investment :)
I understood nothing but I watched the entire video.
The next video i'll be putting out is a follow-up to this video, so maybe that will clear things up. Less numbers, more concepts.
I look forward to it ^^
turn on the subtitles
pls
RUclips doesn't/hasn't offered this option for my channel, not sure why.
@@chycho most your video i look with sub, i think trouble only with this video
Here in 2024 !
ASMR and learning? :o
Could you do a video on your views on Africa and what's happening there?
I wrote a pretty in-depth multi-part article on it in 2013, in short, "The future of Africa looks bleak, here is why"
chycho.blogspot.ca/2013/02/the-future-of-africa-looks-bleak-here_15.html
Chycho why're you so adorable? Such a cool guy! 😏 #ChychoForever
