@@Writer777-wanna_be. I cook the leaves like you would Kale, collards, & Chard. They are very good by them selves or mixed with Kale & Collards. The next time you see kohlrabi at a produce stand buy it with the full stalk (and leaves). If you cook just the leaves by themselves they taste great! Any part of greens such as the stalk (or other inedible parts) you should cut up, and put in the freezer. Take them out and use them in the blender with smoothies! You won't taste them, and they are way healthier than using just plain Ice in your blender.
@@KareemHadee thank you for answering…what oil is best tasting that you use.? I make kraut a lot. I have discovered if you use kosher salt it doesn’t seem to turn dark like other canning salt
Have you ever cut the stem up to make individual plants? Seems like it would work as long as each section had some roots. I’m thinking each head would then have enough room to develop into larger heads.
Everything is becoming so expensive at the moment so for my own sake i started to grow stuff myself from the grocery store vegetables, this was a great tutorial thanks you for sharing :D
Wow, that's amazing!! Thank you for an amazing video..I didn't know you could do that with store bought cabbage. For me it is a “blinding glimpse of the obvious”. Thank you again and Greetings from Greenville, NC.
Your video is so cool! Never realized this! The loose outer leaves you've grown are quite nutritious and delicious sliced in thin strips and cooked in a variety of dishes. Thanks for sharing!
Great Video! I will definitely do it. I just counted over 160 tomatoes growing in a spare bedroom under cheap LED lights along with my arugula, kale, green onions and rosemary! Done it for years in the winter. They will need to make room for cabbage now! PS: I always plant green onions inside as soon as I buy them from the store and then cut off the top when I need some, and they will keep growing. I use the adjustable steel wire shelving. One shelf on the bottom for the potted plants and a top shelf to hang lights and support the vines.
That's one I haven't tried and I love growing things from the GROWcery store. I've found cutting an X on the bottom of the stem seems to promote root growth, at least on the celery I keep growing.
@geekygardems I heard that you can dip the base (the part that will grow the roots) in honey, wrap a paper towel around it then emerse it in water. I haven't tried that yet because I'm currently using some rooting powder I bought at Home Depot which works really well.
I have never tried this and I need to!! I've only planted cabbage from seed! Last year I only harvested ONE cabbage lol. I really need to try this! Thanks for sharing! 😊💗👍
I struggle with cabbage plants because the deer eat them all. This is just so easy to do, and worth it. $-5 heads from a piece of cabbage, it's so fun!
This is awesome Sara! I know about growing various things from old store bought plants, but cabbage is one that I did not know about. I can't wait to try this. I'll definitely be experimenting with this one. Thank you!
What a great idea and tip for more cabbage. Thank you so much! I think I will try this your way. But also I think once the leaves begin to grow and you can see each little cabbage. I'll cut them apart as long as they each get a piece of root. And try growing them separately. Liked and subbed!!!
Hey you rock! Thank you! I'm here because a cabbage I am growing already, my first time growing them, has multiple babies growing. It already has the root system so I will harvest the big cabbage head and leave the little ones to grow and see how it works that way. I suppose I will cut those back and eat them till I have just one monster remaining.
Thanks 😊 yes you helped, this is my first time doing this, I have 6 heads coming out of mine and I didn’t know if I needed to separate them. Again thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
So I'm assuming, you can brake those four heads off. And put them in separate pots to let them get bigger separately?. Love this vedio. Thanks for your teaching
I just bought one medium sized head of organic Napa cabbage that was $8.76! Ouch. I’m hoping to plant it and save myself some money. Thank you for this!!
That is cool. You may get small cabbage heads but the leaves are also edible. So you get quite a lot out of regrowing the cabbages and you more than make your money back!!
Not really, that compost and fertilizer isn't free and she also said she fertilizes every other week in one of her comments. I reckon by the end of it she has spent more then she has received monetarily and in labour for sure. Great idea but only positive gain returns if the compost and fertilizer you are using is home made and relatively free. I am not trying to be a narc here, I'm just being a realist. No point in kidding ourselves. If you make your own compost and fertilizer this is a brilliant idea.
I helped out and a local 4-H St. Patrick day meal. I got put in charge of the cabbage prep. Guess who saved dozens of cabbage ends! 😋 All mine are sprouting well just 1 week later. Question: has anyone divided the ends into separate individual cabbages before planting? I'm thinking of the similar idea that one does with potato starts. This would be more organized and evenly spaced out in the garden rows.
I am rewatching, Sara because I am growing the cabbages in water now. Do you keep it in full sunlight? I have shared this video with friends and they are doing this experiment as well. On Mrs Green Thumb channel is one of them. Thanks as always! Hope you are are staying cool down there. Have a blessed Memorial day weekend!💖
Thank you for sharing that. I live alone and eat 2 cabbages a week on average. I can see I could become self sufficient in this in a short space of time - they take about 2 months to grow, don't they?
Wow thank for the tip put I can crow everything Including ginger afterwards everything it didn't turned out. I love garbage special the red one, the red is more healthy then the green. Thank you for effort to make the video I really appreciate 😊 😉 ❤️

Imagine if you are living off-grid somewhere in the middle of nowhere and you can regrow a lot of the vegetables.. you can basically generate food on a large field to survive on your own. I saw it in a video of a couple living in the wilderness of Canada. It was amazing how large the vegetables field was..
I started this yesterday but put straight in soil as it was forming little roots will it work i also covered with abag should it be left in open air while forming roots just experimenting at mo thanks for any advice you can give 👍
@@cliffpinchon2832 hi! I put it in my kitchen window and it work. Medium sunlight I would say, as I have a lemon tree outside that blocks most of the sun to that window

God is so greattt❤
Bought 1 cabbage and got 6 free one
Thanks Jesus ❤
Yessss ❤❤❤❤
This definitely works I let my son plant one in my pepper garden last year and I have already harvested 6 heads
I EAT those large outer leaves!!!
They're the best part!!!
Well @bunnybunny I'm not surprised!
Me too! They taste just as good as kale and collards IMHO.
@@KareemHadeedo you eat them raw? Or fix them like greens and boil them?

We also have grown a bunch of veggies from the grocery store. Haven’t really thought about cabbage.

Cook the cabbage leaves like collard greens
You can also re-grow celery, onions, pineapple, and lettuces!
