If you don't think China is our adversary. You should get out of your mothers basement. The anti-china movement started long befor this. In 2016 actually. They get intelligence reports daily, and they know things about this situation that you will never know.
It is 100% about national security and nothing else. If you think otherwise you know nothing about the people behind this bill.

I went to a drone training conference last year and attended a seminar hosted by a Skydio rep showcasing Skydio drones. He allowed us to test fly the drone and admitted that it wasn't near as good as the DJI drones. He even seemed to have trouble getting it off the ground at first. I wasn't sold on Skydio. This ban has nothing to do with CCP and security. It's about American companies like Skydio trying to ban the competition. Skydio has paid millions of dollars in lobbying money to Congress to get this ban approved. I called my senators and representatives and I received a response back from one of them where he stated "the security of the US is of utmost importance to him" blah blah blah. To summarize, it's already been bought and paid for. The ban will happen thanks to this asshole from Skydio. Skydio drones have sucked since day one and have been more expensive than DJI. No American company can provide a drone as good as DJI for the price because of corporate greed. Maybe they should should just let the experts at DJI handle making the drones and get out of the market. Can't take the heat? Get out of the kitchen.

I don't even really see much use for a consumer skydio drone, beyond have just a better version of something like a Hover X1. To me, a skydio is more of a toy, or tik tok tool. Most people aren't uploading social media shorts, or wanting a mostly useless $1000+ novelty toy.

If a drone goes from $1,500 to $1,800, people are just gonna spend more money, instead of buying a garbage American drone (which probably still costs more). Like, if I go to get something to eat, and I want a hamburger, but you tell me "Ooh, we had to raise the price from $8 to $25 for the burger... The IRIS............. The worst piece of junk I ever owned. I had a warranty issue regarding the Pixhawk flight controller. After reviewing my issue and determining that the flight controller was defective. They asked me if I would be willing to do the repair if they sent me the part with instructions. They said it was a simple repair and that anyone with average motor skills can do it. Being a former camera repairman for the U.A Air Force, I said yes.......... Big, big mistake. The drone never did fly as promised, and 3DR left the consumer drone market shortly there after. I would never buy a U.S. made drone unless it was a toy for a kid.

China investing in companies doesn't necessarily create a risk to other countries.
The CCP does actively conduct all kinds of espionage and I'm sure they utilize every means possible to learn everything they can.
The problem with all the hype about there being a threat from DJI drones is that it's never been explained in any way that makes sense. I fail to see how DJI, even if it were directly tied to CCP espionage can be a threat.
Any fixed site in the country can already be observed and recorded by people on the ground, airplanes flying nearby or directly over and satellites. Even if DJI figured out some trick to take all of our high resolution imagery and send it to the CCP what would they see that they haven't already seen?
A lot of what was said in that hearing was just nonsensical. One of those clowns actually said that China might be able to take control of our drones LOL

OK, so the issue IMHO is Skydio left the consumer market in the USA AFTER developing a USA industry leading drone, the Skydio 2 (+). I don’t think it’s appropriate for them to comment on DJI’s ability to do business in the US. As for DJI, the initial concerns were patched, and the ONLY reason this is an issue at the moment is for assumed economic purposes, for US drone makers to be able to compete, and because of the recent push to ban TicTok. We had that with Skydio and they bailed, instead choosing to focus on military and law enforcement lucrative contracts. DJI is not damaging to the US any more that Facebook or Instagram is, this is political and those pushing this are ill advised and don’t understand the facts. Instead, they would rather rob US consumers the ability to have access to to state of the art creativity tools, the drones certainly, but add all action cameras and vlog cameras, anything from DJI.. this is absurd.. so Skydio, if this absurd ban gets passed, you better come to market again.. and stop raising the drone use in wars to justify the US ban..Also, as I watch this, its clear Skydio’s reason for being there is to push their drone advantages to the military

About the only sensible remarks I heard from this video is the concluding statement by Adam Bry - that the US had allowed its manufacturing base be shifted out of the US in the past 3 decades. That is the one and only factor which frustrated Skydios in producing a good product at a lower cost. That is however a US decision for which the CCP cannot be blamed.
As to the rest of the "reasons" why tariff should be raised against DJI, such as CCP subsiding DJI (when DJI actually put up an auction for investment because too many private funds were trying to invest in the company), Skydios sent much less drones to Ukraine than DJI (because the Ukrainian army found Skydios not up to the task), China prohibiting exports of drones to Ukraine (when DJI bans drone exports to BOTH Ukraine and Russia because it did not want its drones be weaponized), China closing market to US drones (when the US can produce nothing that can be sold there), or because the drones are used on the genocide committed against the Uyghurs (when the population of Uyghurs in Xinjiang and their per capita GDP are rising) are childish and farcical. If the US government wants to ban DJI because the US industry cannot compete, just say it.
Skydios 2 is a good drone. Its obstacle avoidance was the best when it first came out. However, in other respects, it fell behind the then DJI Mavic 2 pro. While Adam Bry is clever to say that he does not want to stifle competition through political USA, that statement is clearly disingenuous. I think he is seeking to bank on the military sector for Skydios.

    • @hylianchriss
      @hylianchriss 3 месяца назад

Because in China, the dictatorial state controls everything, everyone and every company. Including DJI. By ignoring the climate, the safety and health of the workers, paying minimum (or no) wages, controlling supply chains and inserting government funds in supposedly private companies, China is producing not just drones, but cars and other technology far cheaper than would be possible in the Western World. They took over the drone market, they're less than a decade away from taking over the electric car market. Not because they're better or smarter, but because they're not playing by the same rules. Western drone companies can't even afford to try and compete with China's low prices. Chinese companies can afford to outbid any Western Company in the world with low prices, due to child labor and actual modern slaves mining away in Africa, all while having the absolute largest carbon footprint in the world, while Western companies (especially in Europe) are hard pressed to reduce all emissions. At the same time, China are executing every Chinese citizen who dare speak up. China is one bad day away from attacking Taiwan, the same way Russia attacked Ukraine. When they've done that, they will own the GPU market as well.
I love my DJI drone at least as much as you do, but China are not the good guys here. DJI ban, TikTok ban and Chinese car bans should have happened half a decade ago.

It's ironic that Mr Bry appears to support tariffs on Chinese drones to enhance the American drone industry while ending his own company's sale to the public. I had planned to purchase a Skydio2+ only to discover that they were no longer available. This has been a source of frustration and basically leaves me no other choice but DJI. I would prefer to Go American, but I need an autonomous drone and my options are now even more limited. It seems that Mr Bry is weeping about a situation he has helped create!

100.000 DJI Drones have helped Ukraine to combat The Russian Invasion vs 1000 Skydio. It's easy to see that DJI is the better Tool for the job, even if they have to be "hacked" (let's remember that ID tracking is a requirement in DJI drones because of US legislation)
Are they even gonna invite anybody from DJI or the Drone Community to talk about the other side of the story?
Are they gonna create thousands of new High Tech factories of chips, motors and other components in Mexico in the next 5-10 years? because they sure as hell Texans will not accept 3 USD per hour to generate the parts needed at competitive prices.
Let's remember that Intel used to have a FAB in Costa Rica. It didn't last BTW.

Adam would not have been sitting there in Congress giving the speech had Congress criminalized RC flight earlier on. It's clear that American companies and legislators are only interested in high cost, subscription based, infrastructure tools.
