Thank you so much for your comments! We hope you enjoyed the canal crossing as much as we did. And we're so pleased our story connected with you. The power of cruising!
Thanks letting me join you on this adventure. I have read much about the canal, President Theodore Roosevelt and the malaria and hardships of the workers.
Great job guys doing your video. Really enjoyed it. Great comentary and video. Makes me want to do the Panama Canal now. Really enjoyed the story about your grandfather Poppy.
Thank you so much for your comments! Cruising the Panama Canal was such a wonderful experience, I would love to do it again at some point. Thanks for watching Poppy's story!
I've been fortunate enough to do a Canal cruise 3 times. (2 full transits and 1 partial.) The first time was with my Mother. Initially, I wasn't interested on doing the cruise, but, then she made me aware that her grandfather was one of the thousands of men, from the Caribbean, that helped to build the Panama Canal. It is - and will always be - an amazing journey.
Thank you for sharing your story, so amazing that you have a personal connection to the canal. We definitely want to take another transit, be it full or partial. As you say, it is an amazing journey.
Thank you for the wonderful (an understatement) video. My wife and I are going this coming Christmas on the Grandeur. You have certainly whet our appetites. Splendor is the only RSSC ship we will not have been on after the Christmas cruise.
The Panama Canal is a truly wonderful experience. We loved sailing on the Splendor for our canal crossing, but are eager to see how the sister ship Explorer compares. We've been looking at itineraries, dreaming of our next Regent cruise!
@@callingallports Based on what we can see from the pictures, the only real difference is the sculpture at the entrance to the pan Asian restaurant. The service was really uniformly excellent on our previous cruises with RSSC. We’ve taken Concierge suites on previous cruises. Now we want to see the difference with the Penthouse (and butler). But, thanks for your videos.
A lovely story of a personal journey for you and your family, as well as a magnificent ocean voyage. All of which made great viewing in this wonderful vlog. Thanks for sharing.
@@callingallports Its a definite dream to do, and every year we try to escapes the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, but so much left here to see. Its likely that the Suez Canal will be first, before we head over to transit the Panama, but most certainly there are destinations in North and South America we a keen to explore.
Another Excellent video!! We took the complete transit on the Royal princess many many years ago and this offers a completely different perspective. I agree not having a forward view is not the best but after a couple of locks I was happy to just plop myself on my balcony for a couple of hours. I remember being fascinated by the number of cargo ships going through the canal. You captured so much from so many angles on this tour! Congrats! And that was a sweet way to remember your Poppy!
Thank you again for your wonderful comment! We would definitely do the transit again in a heartbeat and are actually tempted to sail on a bigger ship, just for the different perspective. I think it would also be nice to sail through the canal again so we can sit back and relax more - we were just so fascinated with the canal and did not want to miss a single minute of it! Poppy would have absolutely loved it!
Nice job with the video. The footage from deck 5 really gives a different perspective. My wife and I were on that cruise and you raise a valid point about no outdoor access from the bow. If you ever decide to repeat the journey book on the Mariner or Voyager. They are wonderful ships and both have outdoor access from the Observation Lounge. We began cruising with the line when it was still Radisson in 2004 and have never looked back.
Thanks so much for your comment! Sounds like you’ve had some amazing cruise adventures - we’d like to get there one day. We would love to sail the Panama Canal again one day and we will keep your suggestions in mind for a future cruise. We sailed on the Mariner in 2017 and loved it - would certainly sail on that ship through the Panama Canal.
Hi Mark, we used two cameras for our video - DJI Pocket 2 Gimbal and Sony ZV-1F. Hope you liked the look. We kept things pretty simple, we were traveling a long time and used small cameras for this trip.
The extra staff that boarded from the pilot boat with the pilot are the line handlers. Part of the canal transit payment pays for the services of the pilot and the line handlers. The line handlers are responsible for attaching the lines to the various towing engines that run along the top of the canal walls.
❤❤❤absolutely wonderful, thank you so much. We were on that cruise and had tears in ours eyes watching that video 🙏🙏🙏

One of the best canal crossing videos I have seen! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Can't wait for your perspective on the canal crossing. Will you be sailing on the Grandeur for it?
