To me Jeff Pilson is alot more menacing than Don. Dons smoother and made Dokken unique and melodic.. But hearing this i think Jeff could have the voice to front a darker more threatening band in the vein of Metal Church...very cool to hear this.
Jeff is a great singer, no doubt about it. He got the range, but Don got an unique phrasing and an untochable melodic approach that made the band so special. Jeff is great here, but no one can sing it like Don used to do. You can hear in the pre-chorus, Jeff goes high and raw as Don goes high but still melodic.
Love hearing Jeff sing, you know if they would've combined don and Jeff at certain points especially when Jeff uses his gritty voice with don's softness they could've done some amazing shit! Then again, their amazing anyways... ps.. my sons first name is... Dokken !
The Sixes Jeff Pilson should have sang many of the tracks on tooth and nail like the title track as well as "just got lucky" which in 1995, he sang live and tore don apart on. Don would have had the better voice for a number of under lock and key songs
Jeff would have been the perfect thrash metal singer. In a band more like Megadeth, Overkill or Testament. Could have been awesome. I'd love to hear these type of vocals in a band like that
Man, that was great . Thanks for posting this ! What made Dokken unique was 1. The songs 2. George Lynch’s sound 3. Probably just as important were the Harmonies from Pilson. Don was the main singer but Jeff provided the power vocals when the songs required them ( usually the chorus : Lucky , in my dreams , hunter etc). My favorite band of the 80’s.❤
For all the people who wished Pilson was singer of Dokken - wish no more, it's called T&N (originally called Tooth & Nail). They have been around since 2011, unfortunately have only put out one album, but they did a few Dokken songs (with guest singers) and the new original songs are sung by Jeff. Enjoy :)

Jeff is amazing in so many ways. I played the Lynch Pilson album to death. It's timeless. Incredible work. The music market is so fucked when an album slips by, like that, not being on the billboard top 10.

Always loved Jeffs back ups, had no fucking idea he could scream like that though with the vocal fry, sounds RAD. Shoulda blended it with Dons real melodic approach in bits.
Holy shit… Jeff can sing! Obviously I’m a bit late to the game, but I saw Foreigner last summer and Jeff’s backing vocals on a couple songs stood out. The more I hear him sing, the more incredible I’m realizing he is. He re-recorded a few more Dokken songs with George and Mick for an album they did as T&N, and man he sounded great.
Hunter Knight don was always willing to let that happen if the band had been willing to let him play guitar on some songs as don is actually a very good guitar player. But George and the band wanted George only playing guitar so don always felt it was only appropriate that if wasn’t gonna be “allowed” to play guitar then he should be the only lead singer in the band to keep things consistent.
