I am starting a maintenance job and my work is related to this breaker repair category. It's great that you shared this with us, thank you very much for that. Wishing you and your family all the best
I'm a former Radio Operator and now I'm a OIC-NW license officer. I think some trouble shooting guide indicated on the block diagram. It's mean the trouble shooting will definitely in a particular place since the ship is almost new, so the solenoid (function is to amplified the required current in order to run the motor to open up.) Since the c/e and 1st/engr act a electrian onboard. But I think if the ship become old I think it's better to have an electrician who's knowledge in electronics techinical and we'll verse in such like computer, electronics, electrical and even knowledge in mechanical as well. Take care, God bless! Salute you sir. Peace
Hey jake, We had a similar situation onboard my vessel - during port state inspection the EMDG did not connect to the board(engineers swear they checked it before hand
I think there is a dedicated spring release mechanism in this kind of breaker. Also if you just close the breaker I think you just release the closing spring but the opening spring is still charged. Please correct me if I'm wrong Sir.. By the way I enjoy watching your videos they are very informative.
Nope it is the same spring for closing and opening. So if you close the breaker without the Motor connection or the Jack Cable then it will stay released unless you charge it
@@leckyjake Cone Dela Cruz, you are absolutely correct!! The closing spring / closing action charges the trip spring. That is why he was able to trip the breaker when the semaphore was showing the spring was discharged. The spring charged semaphore is just for the closing spring. To properly discharge all stored energy, on most spring close breakers, you need to disconnect spring charging motor, do a close operation to discharge closing spring, then do an open operation to discharge trip spring that was charged when the breaker was closed. Some breakers can even do two close operations on one spring charge cycle. So always close, open and try close again before sticking your fingers in the breaker mechanism.
May you please clarify a moment? If i press close on circuit breaker before rack out then it means that we take generator on bus bars. But generator not started. As a result redundant load on bus bar. Generator will act as an engine.
I like you video so usefully , if u have time please show me How to do the operated well of OWS (OIL WATER separator) on board and part of Name with funcion please..
Hi, I'm surprised, that ships VCB's doesn't have Relay switch circuit, to check the coils. I work in a hydro power plant and all our main switces have these sort of control.
And if it was mechanically sticking, it would have tripped when you had the control power removed from it. So what am I missing here? Is there a trip circuit monitor that was tripping it due to low resistance? Which normally only sends indication of an electrically open trip circuit. But I see an 85X device, which I am not familiar with. Thanks
I saw you pull the break out but no testing done. 3 tests need to be done. Contact resistance, insulation resistance, and a vacuum bottle integrity test. Grease all moving parts and if all tests look good rack it back in and test the relay.
Sir gud day... hndi ba sya delikado na mag testing nang VCB na nasa switchboard? Hndi ba pag mag Switch ON magsupply sya sa generator? Slamat..safe sailing....

good day ka lecky! thank you for sharing your idea in troubleshooting in VCB. laking tulong po to sa amin ka leckky....
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, your videos are precious for us the unexperienced ETOs , what other causes can trip a reverse power alarm?
Thank you.
The most probable and obvious cause is the failure of prime mover. But as shown in this video it was a false alarm due to VCB failure.

Can you do a video of boiler and boiler alarm???
Very informative sir jake.
thank you for the knowledge sharing.. stay safe po god bless..
Thank you very much
How do you think that the issue with the VCB it is reversed power , so why you didnt think there is something wrong with the generator?
Thank you sir for this very useful video
Very nice master

Where did my first comment go? I was genuinely curious.
