Fun fact, 3 of Bill Murray’s brothers are also in the movie. His brother John plays this brother James . His brother Joel was a guest at his brother’s party , his brother Brian plays his dad.
Bill Murray and Bobcat Goldthwait in the same movie? Yes, please! That speech at the end about wanting the Christmas feeling every day was ad libbed by Bill Murray. He was told to just come up with something on the spot.
Bill Murray's interpretation is always in the little details, as much physically as with the line delivery. When he's talking to Claire on the phone and says "it's been..." then looks at his watch before saying "15 years." I'm always the only one laughing at this but it's just too perfectly Bill Murray!
RIP Richard Donner, who in addition to this directed The Omen, Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon and 16 blocks (which is great). What an unbelievable talent.
You are one of the only reaction creators that has the ending in tact. Kudos. It is the most powerful moment of the movie when "Bill" comes to terms with himself and society. I have tears in my eyes every time he makes that passionate speech.
I love the ghost of Christmas present. She’s so perfectly weird and the way she bullies Lumpy is so perfect the way he bullies everyone around him and she always gets the upper hand.
You have to do "Trading Places." 1983, starring Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis. It takes place over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, so it is, essentially, a Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years film! One of the smartest comedies ever done! You'd love it!
Bobcat did standup in my city about 15 years ago, and afterwards I got to play pool with him for about 4 hours. Of course a lot of people tried to get into our game, but he kept refusing, telling everyone that he was only there to play pool with me. Really liked him.
What he said about Robin on the JRE is nothing less than heroic. I hope he lives a long, comfortable life filled with joy. Right up until the road leads beyond the dark veil.

The Ghost of Christmas Past was played by David Johanson, formerly of the punk/glam rock band, The New York Dolls. He went solo and created a new persona - Buster Poindexter and had a big hit with "Hot, Hot, Hot" in 1987. An interesting character musically and in interviews. There is a great RUclips video out there with David's Buster Poindexter persona and Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. It is funny as can be.
I remember seeing some footage of The New York Dolls somewhere, years ago, and thinking "Man, that guy looks like Buster Poindexter", but somewhat jokingly. I was surprised to later find out it was true. That was one hell of a genre and image change.
David Johanson has a larger role in the hilarious ensemble comedy, LET IT RIDE (1989) starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, David ("Wings") Schramm, Jennifer Tilly and her two assets, Mama Michelle Phillips, Cynthia Nixon. This film always gets my highest recommendation.
One of my all time favourites. So many Murrays in one place. His younger brother did a movie called 'Moving Violations' which is one of the most 80s films ever made. Don't get why he didn't become huge. And Karen Allen's smile is the most wonderful thing in the world.
You beat me to it! I LOVE that movie! lol. I was introduced to it many many years ago, by my cousin, and it's still a family favourite. My daughter loves it too. About 10 years ago, a couple of years after she'd introduced the movie to some HS friends, there was something on FB about lines from a movie without giving it away. She put "I hear bells, do you hear bells?" Not long after, she got back from one friend, "Mrs Houk, get out the car!" And from another, "Why's my back all wet?" That one actually surprised us, not only that he knew the movie, but could remember it well enough to quote it.

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Everytime the little boy speaks at the end always brings tears to my eyes. I saw this in the theater & we all did the sing-along at the end. Great fun!
I love that Bill Murray's three brothers are all in this too: his brother is played by his real brother John Murray, Joel Murray is one of John's party guests playing trivia, and Frank's dad is played by Bill's brother Brian.
Brian was the caddyshack manager in Caddyshack, and John and Brian were both in Groundhog Day - the guy at the top of the stairs at the B&B (John) and the head hedgehog guy (Brian).
I love this movie. When I watch this movie I think of my late mother, who just about died laughing at this movie. She REALLY loved the Ghost of Christmas Present, who is my favorite too (such a great metaphor). Carol Kane is great.
As someone who was there in the audience when this little gem came out, I can confirm that the audience did indeed sing. Yes, Bill is fantastic, but the fact that there isn't a street or park named after Richard Donner is a travesty. Always love your smile and enthusiasm Cassie, THANKS for this one :)
The wino's in the homeless shelter offered him ripple wine and think he's Richard Burton ( actor) so to get rid of them he's doing lines from Cleopatra.
I think that’s my favorite part of the movie.. How awestrucks the boozers are when he breaks out the voice.. lol.. So many great moments like that in this gem..
To me this movie and the song "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" Will forever go together. I was fortunate to see this one as a child in the theater. I learned the meaning of the word interactive from the end of this film. 😁
Bill Murray has the talent of being able to play a character that's completely unlikable... yet still can be loveable. This movie is part of my Christmas trilogy of annual movies, along with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.
Another movie me and my wife have been watching every year for the last 31 years. Just a great classic and I'm glad you did a reaction to it Mrs. Popcorn. I love watching your reactions. You are awesome.
Thanks Cassie, Watch this every year along with the 1951 Alister Sim version of A Christmas Carol. Bill Murray does a top notch job as always and Karen Allen is just adorable in this.
The Richard Pryor comment gets missed a lot when he douses the waiter that was/was not on fire. It's a not-so-subtle reference to when the famous comedian set himself on fire back in June, 1980.
Yeah, this did it for me. You are the best reactor I've ever watched. It's so much fun watching you react to the movies I watched, and fell in love with, way back in the 80s. But since Bill Murray pretended it was part of it, it was left as a gag.

Also, you expressed confusion at the pacing of the film, and that's understandable; Bill Murray and Richard Donner both had disagreements about how it should go, and the result is a kind of hopping between manic and measured.
we love crude and need a little crude once in a while. a Christmas carol has been done over and over and over many times the same story and I pretty much like them all. but this is something different and that's why I love this one. :)
My personal favorite rendition of this story is "Scrooge" (1970) with Albert Finney. An amazing movie. It is a musical though, so I'm not sure it would be feasible for a reaction video, but you should definitely watch it some time.
I second that nomination, Cassie. There's alot to offer with 1970's SCROOGE. Here's my favorite line: "Remember SCROOGE . . . there is never enough time to say the things we want to say, or do the things that we wish. The trick is to do what you can, with the time that you have . . . because suddenly, you're NOT there ANYMORE!" -The Ghost of Christmas Present.
An underrated Christmas movie that was ahead of it's time in feeling and tone. I watch it annually around this time of year and have a fond memory of seeing it in the theater with my father. The whole audience did sing along at the end.
If you want to do a nice family, feel-good movie before Christmas, I highly recommend It's a Wonderful Life, and/or Muppet Christmas Carol. Kermit is a great bob cratchett and Michael Caine is brilliant as always
In case nobody else mentioned - Lee Majors, the guy who came into Santa's workshop in the beginning asking for the back way out - was still a pretty famous TV action star at the time the movie came out, most known for the shows The Six Million Dollar Man and Fall Guy.
Near the beginning of the movie when Frank is walking with his brother at night along the busy street, they pass by a group of musicians. The guy playing the trumpet is legendary jazz musician Miles Davis.
@@mcgilj1 Another good one. A mostly faithful and rather concise version. It was my first exposure to the Dickens story (and indeed it's a good introduction for kids to the classic tale).
Bobcat Goldthwait is adorable in this movie- maybe the beginning of him trying to get out of being pigeonholed? He's said in interviews and in his comedy routine that doing "the voice" got old pretty quickly and he tried to just show up to jobs and do his normal voice and people would say, "that's not funny, do that crazy voice you do".
I'm just a sucker for Christmas Carol adaptations, even though there are a few classic ones I still haven't seen. Scrooged is up there with my favorites
The actors who play Frank's brother and father are Bill Murray's real life brothers. Always a treat to see them pop up in his movies, like Stan Lee cameos.
I have to say there's just something about you that just makes me smile I love watching your videos they're great it could be just your positive attitude on life everything so thank you
All these years later and that scene where Bill Murray impersonates Richard Burton still makes me laugh. Also, Cassie singing is why you should NEVER stop watching a post until the very end! ;-)
Frank’s mother died giving birth to James because she smoked during her pregnancy. That’s why you don’t see her at James’s party. 😢 This is by far my favorite interpretation of A Christmas Carol. Even if it is a smidge dated, it does fun and interesting things with the concept. Frank Cross is a terrific Scrooge stand-in who delivers that Bill Murray charisma we’ve come to love and expect.
If you really look at the look of the film, the characters aren't really dated in their costumes. The costume designer was smart to keep trends and styles to a minimum. I watch this every year, and like the other best Christmas Carol re-interpretations, it gets me choked up. In this case, Bill Murray delivers everything he has to give as a performer. It'll never age as a movie.
@@brucelaborin2124 It's dated in terms of references. Lee Marvin, Mary Lou Retton, Richard Pryor burning himself? These references were dated when the movie premiered tbh. To the OP, when does the movie tell us the mother died during childbirth? I'd think smoking while pregnant does more damage to the child than the mother.
@@fodsaks The fact that I didn't know the difference between Lee Marvin and Lee Majors when I first saw the movie in 1988 when he was presented as a big movie star shows that the movie is dated. Thanks for proving my point.
Don’t know if you still check this old thread, but for this year you should watch The Man Who Invented Christmas. Very nice story about how Charles Dickens came up with the book A Christmas Carol.
Had to re-upload as the original video was blocked after YT said it passed all the checks... we'll see if this one lasts!

fantastic movie that I saw fairly recently for the first time in years. A really heartbreaking, and emotional movie about love and grief.
Animal house too
This is one of my favorites ,to what we are going to enjoy with you.
You are a Christmas treasure, Cassie. Thank you!
Michael Howard More like a whole year round treasure.
we love crude and need a little crude once in a while. a Christmas carol has been done over and over and over many times the same story and I pretty much like them all. but this is something different and that's why I love this one. :)
I adore the Annie Lennox and Al Green cover of "Put a Little Love in your Heart", it really fits the soundtrack of this movie! 🥰
I’ll have to listen to the full song. Sounds great!
I just now realized that it's in this movie and in another Bill Murray movie, Ghostbusters II. Is that a Christmas movie, too?
My personal favorite rendition of this story is "Scrooge" (1970) with Albert Finney. An amazing movie. It is a musical though, so I'm not sure it would be feasible for a reaction video, but you should definitely watch it some time.
I second that nomination, Cassie. There's alot to offer with 1970's SCROOGE. Here's my favorite line:
"Remember SCROOGE . . . there is never enough time to say the things we want to say, or do the things that we wish. The trick is to do what you can, with the time that you have . . . because suddenly, you're NOT there ANYMORE!"
-The Ghost of Christmas Present.
Now it is time for the other Richard Donner directed Christmas classic....LETHAL WEAPON!
Absolutely my favorite version of a Christmas Carol.
Carol Kane is a treasure.
I haven’t seen ‘Scrooged’ so long. Need to see it again. Btw, I saw again ‘Jingle All the Way’ starring Arnold. That was classic.
Love this film. Every time Kelvin finally talks it gets me.
Kermit is a great bob cratchett and Michael Caine is brilliant as always
congratulations on 150k, love the reaction!
Scrooged is on my list of must-watch Christmas movies. I try to watch it every holiday season.
One of our family’s yearly traditions too. Still get the tears at the end after all these years.
I love your reactions, it shows you’re a genuinely nice person. Don’t ever change.
“Name one.” Brilliant line.
Love this film! Thanks for the reupload
In case nobody else mentioned - Lee Majors, the guy who came into Santa's workshop in the beginning asking for the back way out - was still a pretty famous TV action star at the time the movie came out, most known for the shows The Six Million Dollar Man and Fall Guy.
Loved Fall Guy when I was young!
The Richard Burton bit is brilliant.
Even though she'll have no idea who Richard Burton is.
I didn't get that joke until many years later. Bill Murray and Richard Burton do look alike.
Near the beginning of the movie when Frank is walking with his brother at night along the busy street, they pass by a group of musicians. The guy playing the trumpet is legendary jazz musician Miles Davis.
If you haven't seen it you should watch "The Muppets Christmas Carol", still the best version IMHO.
Certainly up there. It had my vote in the poll.
I have to give it to Mickey's Christmas Carol ...
@@mcgilj1 Another good one. A mostly faithful and rather concise version. It was my first exposure to the Dickens story (and indeed it's a good introduction for kids to the classic tale).
Truth.
But it has to be the extended version, not the theatrical cut.
Bobcat Goldthwait is adorable in this movie- maybe the beginning of him trying to get out of being pigeonholed? He's said in interviews and in his comedy routine that doing "the voice" got old pretty quickly and he tried to just show up to jobs and do his normal voice and people would say, "that's not funny, do that crazy voice you do".
i love the muppets version of a christmas carol
I think it was better than this one.
Scrooged is like fine wine. The more times you watch it, the more you appreciate its humor and wisecracks.
I'm just a sucker for Christmas Carol adaptations, even though there are a few classic ones I still haven't seen. Scrooged is up there with my favorites
Bad Santa is a good Christmas movie to react to. Especially since you started this channel to expand the kind of movies you watch
The actors who play Frank's brother and father are Bill Murray's real life brothers. Always a treat to see them pop up in his movies, like Stan Lee cameos.
Thanks for the fact, it's most enlightening! 🥰
I recognized his older bro, he’s been in so many films.
His older brother Brian appears in most of Bill Murray's projects, including Ghostbusters II, Grounding Day, and even Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
In fact all three of his brothers Brian, John and Joe appear in the film the other brother makes a cameo as one of his brothers guests at his party.
Congratulations on 150K subscribers. Well deserved! On to 200K now…
I have to say there's just something about you that just makes me smile I love watching your videos they're great it could be just your positive attitude on life everything so thank you
Agreed. Cassie’s reactions are adorable.
His squeeze in this is Karen Allen who was Marion-Indy's girl. She' good in Starman with Jeff Bridges, too!
I really wish she hasn't seen "It's a Wonderful Life" and watches it with us. It would be the best Christmas gift.
She hasn't seen it and she will be watching it in the coming weeks:)
This is by far my favorite interpretation of A Christmas Carol.
@@BrianNIL Lee Marvin?
Maybe you should watch again.
@@fodsaks He meant Lee Majors.
