I brought up Baubles Bangles and beads knowing how it was supposed to sound. This is the one that catches it. The rest (other singers of the song not cast members in this one) play games with the tune like they know better than the guys who wrote it. Stunning voice too.
nice!! i just sing that when my teacher is choosing the one who is singing on our speech choir and that's me!! and they love my voice tehe!!! thanks for the vid!!
Absolutely delightful! I'm a huge fan of most versions of this show, and after having read some of the comments I'm dumbfounded! I know that Ms.Doretta Morrow sing this in the original, then some years later I saw lovely Melba Moore in a unique re-working of the show that became "Timbuktu" on Broadway, I can only say the lovely young lady here gives a superb interpretation of this piece! She is flawless!
Can I suggest you listening to Jane Morgan singing this song She was in "Kismet" on Broadway, I presume playing Marsinah, but having just watched Barbara Eden singing "Not Since Ninevah" (yes Jeannie), perhaps she actually played Lalume as she was a contralto.
Love it one of my favorite songs from the movie

Agreed. She is really well cast in this part!
What a wonderful Marsina! And backed up so well.
