Nazi Veteran Honored in Canada Was Part of Wave of Collaborators Harbored in West

  • Poland says it’s preparing to seek the extradition of a 98-year-old Ukrainian Nazi after he received a standing ovation in the Canadian House of Commons last week following a speech by visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Yaroslav Hunka was invited by the speaker of the House, who has since resigned his post, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau formally apologized for the episode on Wednesday. Hunka fought during World War II with a Nazi unit composed of Ukrainian volunteers who were involved in numerous atrocities, including massacres of Jewish civilians. But Hunka is not an outlier, according to Ukrainian American journalist Lev Golinkin, who says Canada took in many Ukrainian Nazi collaborators after the war. That includes the grandfather of Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who spent years painting him as a victim rather than the Nazi propagandist he was. “Of course Hunka didn’t think anything would happen, because you had the deputy prime minister who was caught whitewashing a Nazi collaborator, and nothing happened,” says Golinkin.

I am from Poland and I know our history! it is not true that only a small number of Ukrainians joined German Nazis in the WWII, There were tens of thens of thousands of those Ukrainian volunteers and there were extreme in brutality against Poles ( West Ukraine belonged to Poland in that time), Jews and Russians. They slaughtered 150 000 innocent Polish people in Wolyn and the area in years 1943-46.Nailing babies to the tables with their mothers watching their agony, crucifying men on the fences, using kitchen and agriculture tools in torturing and killing in a way that the victims will feel dying. Putin is absolutely roght starting this special operation against Kiev Regime, then in the last 20 years the neonazis in Ukraine finding all support fromUS, London and Canada again were multiplying and in small groups doing exactly as they did in the times of WWII. Donbas 2016 is only one tragic example. If the Americans or other parts of the West want to ignore the history and nowadays political reality should not have any voice on international or national arenas!

In 2017, when I was visiting Lviv, in the heart of the historical inner city I saw a place that used to have two synagogues: the Great City Synagogue and the Golden Rose synagogue, and a House of Learning Beth Hamidrash. All buildings were destroyed during the Holocaust and Jews of Lviv were killed immediately after the Germans entered the city by the locals. You may google it and see horrendous photos of these crimes. I was surprised that since Ukraine's independence in 1991 no one even tried to rebuild these synagogues. The Soviets were gone for 26 years, and all other churches were restored and operational, but not those. My Ukranian friends told me that there were no Jews left in the city and even if they were there, they would not dare to aggravate the local population.

My family is originally from the Eastern part of Ukraine, which is where the majority of Ukrainian Jews live. Which is why it is ironic Putin invaded the East, under the guise of denazification. The Nazis all live in the West.

This whole combination with raising a hand and a direct slogan was nothing more than the usual copy of the greeting of the German Nazis. "Glory to Hitler! Glory to Victory."

-Johann von Kielmansegg, General Cabinet Officer of the Nazi Army High Command, after the war he joined the German Army and rose to Brigadier General and rose to the highest positions in NATO as Commander-in-Chief of Special Forces in Central Europe in 1967.

@terrymckenzie8786 The thought cloud above here shows 2 replies to my comment were made, but I only see yours. I don't know what that means. Anyway, Obama is a Black elected by a majority White population. But still, America has a racism problem. So it is the same in Ukraine. Zelensky is a Jew, elected by a majority Eastern Orthodox population. But still, Ukraine has an Ethno-nationalism, even Nazi, problem. It is real. And it is concentrated in the military. Zelensky can not afford the loss of morale among the soldiers by commenting on this problem, though it remains very real. Hope this helps.

fighting against the russian's during that time was expected, as the russians were genociding Ukrainians in the Vinnytsia massacre, and Holodomor, so its not a surprise there was Ukrainians who wanted to fight russia by any means even back then.

Did you know there are Waffen SS memorials in Canada?
Did you know there is a memorial to the 14th grenadier division of the Waffen SS in Ontario, Canada?
In a park called "Saint Volodymyr park"?
Is it pure coincidence that Volodymyr Zelenskyy along with the entire Canadian parliament honoured Hunka, who was a volunteer recruit to the very same 14th division memorialized in "Saint Volodymyr park"?

You can experience how beautiful the world is, just by looking at a baby laughing and smiling, cats cuddling and dogs looking at their human friends as they share their lives together. On the other hand, you can experience how horrible people can be, just by looking at politicians and all this conniving human trash we call governments.

This "small region of western Ukraine" was also responsible for the Maidan and for the continued attacks against Russian speakers in Ukraine. In terms of ethnogenesis, the western ukrainians (the Galicians) are those that are currently identified as ethnic Ukranians that sees themselves as racially distinct from and superior to the "Russians" and tartars in the rest of the country.

Yeap, small and few can and indeed has a disproportionate effect on many things. What's the percentage of billionaires/millionaires in the world? What's the percentage of US citizens to world population? What's the percentage of Israel population to that of surrounding Arabs? etc. People downplay it to defocus on that. To their advantage.

Yeah this guy claims that he's calling these people out but at the same time he's being an apologist for them telling lies like the Russians will say that all ukrainians join the Nazis and their propaganda which is the farthest thing from the truth all the Russians has said is that they think that the Ukrainian WWII veteran should be able to where they're saying George's ribbon which they were banned from doing in 2017😅 this is why I could never become a CIA or any kind of government agent you have to come on here and do this kind of foolishness and tap dance on both sides to trick the people

For a lot of Eastern Europeans, the Communist Soviets were even worse than the Axis. Indeed many Eastern Europeans including many Russians had hoped the German would liberate them from Soviet brutality and terror. The Ukrainians were fighting for their freedom from the Soviets after millions died in theo Holodomor genocide.

This isn't russophobia. Non of these western governments are actually scared of Russia. Their ultimate goal is to break Russia further apart into manageable pieces like they did with the Soviet Union and control it's resources strip off its nukes and keep maintaining hegemony. For this they need consent from masses and hence all this propaganda. Like they did with arabs before. now everyone thinks Russians are subhuman orcs and it's OK to kill them.

The invasion of the Ukraine is mostly due to NATO and its efforts to monopolize Central Europe. The EU went too far; it promised too much, too soon, and ignored all concerns and promises it made to the Russians. How would we feel if the EU promised deals to Quebec, if they would only separated from Canada? Or Newfoundland: if they were to join the EU? Russians have a valid point, being largely ignore by the Western media. The Ukraine should be a politicall neutral zone, like Switzerland. It should function as a buffer, as should Poland. The EU and NATO created this mess, and now we have an arms race, a recession in Europe, and possibly a lower standard of living to follow.
