Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aronia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Aronias!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are sooooo nutritious, and can be very tasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So few folk talk about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have 5 plants of varying varieties. in SE Portland. It is such a survivor, I adore it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so very much for this great info!!!!!!!!!! I find what you say about them to be true. It is validating to hear it, as there is so little info about Aronia. Mine are sweeter when I give them more water, but they can get by without and do not need a lot. I am a raw foodist, so I love them raw! I am so happy that you are so leading edge!!!!!!!! Blessings :)
I have the Viking verity I planted two years ago it got fruit this year me and my kids loved it raw it reminds me of prickly pear with a bittersweet taste. I thought it was the same thing as chokecherry when I planted it I haven't had to do anything about it I forgot about it it gets very dry here I never water it growing in sand soil and no afternoon sun thanks for sharing more information on these maybe I'll plant more around my other trees I'm growing cherry in the same area and again I thought it was a cherry when I planted it but I'm even more happy with it now that we have gotten fruit from it.
Suggest: get a long branch with a root part Very easy to grow:mine grew in wood chips, not fussy…I will meld this with elderberry juice..! Use xylitol instead of sugar & add big lemon. Maybe next year will add echinaceas root…
Question: what is the best way to prune these? I have two of them that are almost 3 years old, and want to take care of them and prepare them for winter and get the best out of them next season. I got about 1.5 lb off one bush and 1 lb off the other - not bad for year 2, but I want to make sure next harvest is even better. (We’re in zone 6, about 2000 ft elevation, if that helps). Thanks for the video, and for any advice you can offer!
have trouble w/ Rosaceae in the south, blight is in the humid air and spreads easily, do you know its disease 'tolerance'? think it would be more tolerant than apples, or pears?
In Arkansas the early leaves were affected somewhat due to the frequent rains we had this spring but the later leaves are nice and green. Lots of new growth.
Great video! So you said you have a few different varieties of these aronia plants...which variety is the one in the video, and which other varieties do you have, and which of yours is the most productive and which is best tasting in your opinion?
Thank you this video Angela! I know it’s been a year but two quick questions: How would you compare the Aronia with Elderberry in terms of nutrition? I’ve seen people use both to fight illnesses. Would this be a good companion plant for a fig tree?
How can I reproduce this Choke berry from seed? I guess my question is how to I harvest the seeds. Would I take them from the berry and dry them or just plant the whole berry. I’m an beginner but I love the knowledge you share. Thanks.
Put seeds in a wet paper towel in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator for three months, then plant in a pot, then transplant later when it`s bigger and healthy.
I have 100 bushes of aronia. Deres est only the young shoots and the They looks for something else. This year They eat the young juneberrie shoots and did not touch the older aronia. It is good for fence, but it can be small, if it is not the hybrid cultuvar, like mine.
@@gaborhovan3530 Thanks. That’s useful to know. I’m curious how raspberry plants may serve as a portion of a growing boundary ‘fence’. And whether a thorny variety is necessary.
@@ttb1513 I don't have good luck with raspberry. My best plants are seaberries. In heavy soil it will not sucker, but in light soil it can be a problem. Deers don't really like them. They are big in size, fix nitrogen and can be planted close to each other. The berries are full of vitamins. It is quite thorny.
I invited a friend to have a taste of the aronia berry, she spat it out as soon as the berry touch her tongue -- never seen such a strong reaction to food other than durian years ago

I have a lovely one
The tip about watering for sweetness is interesting.
I love aronia! The fruit of the gods! Have been growing them for many years! Lot's of love from Sweden!
Hei hva heter aronia på svensk eller norsk? Kan man plante de som hekk? Takk 😊

Shared with group members of Aronia World on Facebook. Thanks!
I'm drinking this Aronia probiotic drink and I'm impressed. It's like North America's acai.
It grows really well in a pot, so great for apartment garden

How's it do in summer? I'm in Texas where heat is a problem. Would love to have this in my backyard though
I just bought two, and now trying to figure out the location in which to plant. I’m in Central TX zone 8.
I bought my one Aronia plant at Tractor Supply. I am glad that it is self pollinating, but I would like to grow three plants!
If you can's find any more, look into air layering or taking cuttings from it and rooting those, when it is big enough to spare some branches.
Bought mine through my state, Iowa dnr tree/bush website. Cheap, but had to take 25. No biggie as I'm getting more!

How do I determine whether a bush is aronia or privet? What are the differences? I understand the privet berries are poisonous.
Thank you so much

Sorry, by other varieties I meant specifically: Aronia's.
What else should I plant? I have apple, fig, blueberry, strawberry, plum, cherry, peach, paw paw, nectarine, medlar.

I ordered plants from Rain Tree nursery in Oregon. Planted in Autumn many fruited in three years.

Are these deer resistant? Considering as part of a "growing fence".

Musser Forest also sells chokeberry bushes.

I missed it if you mentioned that it’s also a nitrogen fixer?
No, Aronia is not a nitrogen fixer.
I find eating it raw you eventually get to enjoy the flavour, I like it more than Blueberry now, mine is Viking Aronia.
Easy to grow edible hedges. Zone 7 miid-Atlantic
Last year the monster woodchucks loved to eat the leaves:Viking..!
