Neal and Amy, this brought tears to my eyes! Thank you for honoring my father, it means a lot. We had customers regularly tell us they would drive past 2 other DQ's for our burgers. Another funny story, when my dad watched a patty cook, he could tell if his meat processor was using too much fat, and on a couple of occasions he would grab a patty and say "let's go" and we would drive over to the place and he would make the owner test that fat ratio and my dad was always right. The other thing I should have mentioned is we let the first side cook until the liquid/fat pooled on the top before we flipped it. You might think it dried the burger out, but it didn't. Assembly-wise, you came real close to the original masterpiece. We used more onions, but your dice was pretty spot on. Up until his passing, my grandfather would dice up 50 pounds every morning. He loved onions and would eat them like apples :) I appreciate you guys!
Which corner? The ne corner I think is now apart of that jail, the nw used to be a car dealership for a while, the se corner I think was a drive thru chain for a while....
@@jarontaliman1 It was near the southwest corner. Gas station on the corner and then my dad's DQ. After AZ DQ ran it into the ground, it became a car lot, later a Mexican restaurant and I haven't stopped by there in 5-6 years, but I understand the building has since been torn down. Back in its heyday, the Kon Tiki hotel was across the street and the AZ mental hospital on the northeast corner. I can't remember what was on the southeast corner though.

I agree with you on the fat ratio, but being that it wasn't smashed at all, it really worked. Form the burger in a ring mold 1/2 in larger than the bun. Season liberally, and when it starts to juice up, flip it. Pull the bottom bun and when you get it dressed up the top is done. You'll be surprised just how juicy it is. I actually buy the precut salad mix which has about 10% cabbage in it and use it for my burgers, fish, and shrimp. The wife is growing kale. I even add it because it is a super food. Now as far as these people that don't like the healthy vegetables on the bottom, well tell them to flip the burger over and the healthy vegetables will be on top. "I'll be here all week". It was on the corner of the main street with a side street and a bridge. There was a bayou behind her shop. When you crossed the bridge and came to the light there was a Dairy Queen across that road. During the summer I would go with her to her shop and help out. Every afternoon I would ask her if I could go out back and look at fish in the bayou. @@TheFlatTopKingI'll clarify. The burgers were about 5" in diameter from his meat processor. Neal, I should have told you to ring mold it!! They were pretty thin, and cooked relatively fast.
The toppings/condiments on the bottom totally ruin it for me. It totally changes the textures in your mouth and how it affects one’s palate. Back in the day I used to go to Subway and all of the toppings were put on top of the meat, now they’re underneath the meat. Totally changed it for me. Cool video! For anyone interested in food history, there’s a series called “The Food that built America” from the History Channel that is really fun to watch.
Absolutely
I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and not too far from that street location that was mentioned; about an 18-minute drive. Thanks for sharing the gentleman’s story. The burger looked fantastic, by the way. 😋
Thanks for commenting...thats awesome so close...cheers
👍👍
If the toppings belong on the top just eat it upside down.
ahhahaha i agree....someone said that ruins the mouth feel...hahaha people
Karma? He's making a DQ burger and now an ad for DQ comes on the TV. Big Brother?
Always put toppings on bottom
heck yeah
👍👍👍👍👍❤️
Great video as always guys! Check out Greg’s channel called Ballistic Burgers. He recreates copycat burgers from restaurants. There’s just something cool about the history of burgers! Love it and thanks again!!
Thanks! Will do!
I love his channel too. Classic burgers and dogs. Great stuff!
The “original smash burger “?
Not that I am aware of...this technology was not smashed...pre formed
@@TheFlatTopKing so maybe pressed so as to be 1/2” larger then the bun? A pre-smash burger
@@ericmoorehead1100 that’s the way I understand the instructions
@@TheFlatTopKingI'll clarify. The burgers were about 5" in diameter from his meat processor. Neal, I should have told you to ring mold it!! They were pretty thin, and cooked relatively fast.
Have you ever done a 5Guys burger. Would like to see that.
I have not...thanks for the idea
The toppings/condiments on the bottom totally ruin it for me. It totally changes the textures in your mouth and how it affects one’s palate. Back in the day I used to go to Subway and all of the toppings were put on top of the meat, now they’re underneath the meat. Totally changed it for me. I like to feel the crunch of the lettuce etc soon as I bite into the bread, not after I’ve bitten all the way through the sammie.
Trust me, it worked. My son's a bottom hater as well, but it's a classic so you can't mess with history.
Flip it upside down>???
@@TheFlatTopKing one could do that but why try and reinvent the wheel when it’s been done the same way for decades?
@@richardedwin5980 but thats your opinon..plenty of successful restaurants spread all over the country do it like this...i laugh because I could care less how one or a company builds their burger....Look how successful 5 guys is...look at in and out burger...look at Culvers...all extremely successful....all toppings on bottom
who would order a burger at Dairy Queen ?
After every Saturday win in our undefeated 1971 Pop Warner football season, our coaches took me and all my 10-11 year old teammates to our local DQ for burgers, fries and shakes. We won the Seattle City Championship that year. Those coaches ended up spending a few bucks! Good memories of good, old-fashioned food (and football!).
The DQ was in White Center (Rat City) for those of you in the know...
Even modern DQ's are on par with five guys, shake shack, smashburger, etc. For me the question is why would anyone order a burger from McD's or BK?!
thats what its all about...cheers
Fun story, but you might want to do some research.
We did...whats up...
burger topping setup is straight outta bizarro world.
Never seen this before but I would try it.
