8:27 I started using this wire after my VD started giving me stutter issues , it’s a very good cable and feels very premium, the best part is that no matter what charge my cable Q3 is on it keeps it at that percentage. One time my quest was on 98%, played for a 2h and it was still at 98%
Very well explained. I know you’ve reviewed the Pico 4 as well, and I’m using both the Quest 3 and the Pico 4 Ultra. Having those two headsets, the easiest way to play PCVR games is by using Virtual Desktop. I can start playing a PCVR game on my Quest 3, and without stopping the game, simply turn off VD on my Quest and switch it on with my Pico 4 to continue playing. With VD, you’re not dependent on just one headset.
Thank you Mac,you have always showed great tutorials for streaming in VR. You helped me so much 5 years ago when I had a 2070 S, and I did not know anything about settings with VD, you had me up and running with just a few tweaks. I have a 4080 S now, and its still great to watch your tutorials, I learn something new every time. Hope you have a great day, and keep up the great work.
I agree with your recomendations, Quest Link with a cable for sims, Virtual Desktop for everything else. A word of caution though, if you want a really smooth and enjoyable experience playing wirelessly, you're most likely gonna have to spend a little money. The best way to get the absolute maximum out of wireless VR is to have a setup like Mac described, a dedicated WiFi 6E router line of sight from your play area. I've always had a dedicated line of sight router since I got into VR, and I've gone from a Wifi 5 to a Wifi 6 to a Wifi 6E, and you do notice a difference with each upgrade. Wifi 5 is playable, but you'll have to turn your bandwidth down to at least the setting Mac suggested in the video (Using Virtual Desktop). You'll still get a little stuttering now and then, but it's playable. With Wifi 6, you'll be able to up the bandwidth to 350 or so, and the stuttering is minimal. With 6e, you can run it at the full 500, and it's butter smooth. Now you'll have to be technically savvy to add a 2nd router to your network (an Access point should work ok too) or know somebody that is, because if you don't set it up right you can cause problems on your network. If you are or know somebody who's technically proficient with networking though, it's a piece of cake, and there are plenty of videos to show how to do it. Bottom line, any dedicated access point will work, but I really recommend going with WiFi 6e if you can. I have the same one Mac does, and the experience is awesome.
I mainly use my QPro (i913900k/rtx4090) for all my flight/racing sims using the official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type C port. Keeps my headset charged above 85% for a very long time (+6hrs). I use my Q3 for standalone and wireless PCVR with Air Link for everything else (wifi6, not 6e). Secret for me to get Air Link to connect every time is to go to the Quest home link panel and wait for all connections to refresh (all green checkmarks), then launch. Personal preference thing but I prefer Air Link over VD. Each to their own I guess, lol! Also, since the v72 update I prefer h.265 (hevc) with dynamic bitrates. I set ODT to all defaults/zeros except asw = disabled, distortion = low, codec = h.265, sliced encoding = off, encode dynamic bitrate = enabled , dynamic bitrate max = 900 (no need to copy paste this). These ODT settings work fine with both Link and Air Link using either my QPro or Q3. As an aside, my meta link device graphics settings with both headsets are 80Hz refresh rate with res slider full right. All working very well and I think some of this is due to the latest v72 update (headsets and pc app). So I think that Meta is still delivering on PCVR. Also, I use the Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) game profiles to set super sampling and asw modes.
Some interesting settings in there, I will have a look, thanks. This video is aimed more at people getting started than super users, like yourself. Thank you for your input, much appreciated 🙂👍
Best in the business ,the Mac daddy of VR great video well explained I came to you at Xmas Time to work out my best options and my conclusions after experiencing everything myself is exactly what you have explained so well . Thanks
@@MacInVR I have it aswell , and still im getting frame drops and network spikes ?! i have commented more in detail on your other PCVR tutorial with more in depth details. Pretty sure my setup is correct and as best as possible and still its starting to drive me insane :P
I have the same WiFi6 router you have and used it as a dedicated VR streaming router and had issues with the streaming quality for some reason. Had lots of stutters like I was running at low frame rate. I recently got the PrismXR air bridge which plugs into the computers USB and creates a direct wireless connection. Now I get a rock solid 2400mbps with no glitches. It costs more then the TP Link router but it works great and I’m surprised I haven’t seen more people using it
It was pretty much plug and play for PCVR. The air bridge does have another setting to use it like a router so maybe it’s on the wrong mode. Only tricky part for me was getting the air bridge to allow access to the internet from the PC which was just a simple settings change on the computers end
great, thanks Mac! 👍the only thing I cannot recommend for Airlink settings is link sharpening set to "quality". it is very blurry in general, set it to "normal" instead?
@@MacInVR I got it to work when I downloaded the desktop app, and went through there. Windows however removes the exe-file from time to time. So I have to unpack the zip again. I'm sure I could make an exception in the windows virus...whatever its called. But I haven't gotten around to it yet. Good luck to get it up and running. When it works its the best solution yet! :) not needing wifi is amazing. I can bring the quest to work (on a boat in the north sea) where there is very limited wifi.
Great video and explanation. I’m new to VR quest 3. I use it for msfs2020 flight simming. I’m blown away by the immersion of VR but a little disappointed on the image quality being a little blurry. I have prescription lenses inserts fitted. At moment I’m using VD but does link cable offer better visuals or is it the same as VD? My system spec are Amd 7800x3d 4070Ti super
I have no option but to use the cable and I use the Inui cable, it's OK but I sometimes have issues with charging or maintaining charge, it's a bit hit and miss. I'm using the supplied charger but I'm using an Inui charging cable (rated at 240W) as its longer.
Anybody have tips If you have a displayport headset in PC room but want to use Q3 wireless in other rooms? Ie the easiest way to switch between the two, I got VD and WiFi sorted. T
in Virtual Desktop "video buffering" should be "ON" ... This make stable framerate and only small add to latency ... in my case video buffernig is game changing ;)
It's why I enjoy making these videos, as I always say "everyone's set up is different" so have a fiddle about. I like a nice tinker & I think my set up is pretty good BUT I'm always open to suggestions & advice, that's how we grow & learn 😉
Hi, can someone tell me if I need to keep my dedicated AX router connected to my IP supplied router in order to play wireless VR? (I'm asking this despite hearing the Mac saying you don't need internet to play wireless VR. I just can't think of anything else that could be wrong with my setup). I know I have to connect my computer to my dedicated router and set it as access point. But after that, I'm a bit lost. Thank you!
Not really, you generally get better graphics and performance on PCVR and you are not limited too what a wannabe monopoly gives you. If you actually know what you are doing it is no hassle either, hence Mac's videos for helping newbies to it. I have been using PCVR since the OG Vive and really enjoy it, went Reverb 2 and now Pico 4.
Thanks for making this video mac. I got the quest 3 at Xmas and I’m a noob with pc stuff and was wondering about the best way to play and stream with the quest 3 on pc. I tried stream by casting to my phone but it was shite 🤦♂️

For Flight Sims, a good USB cable (like the Iniu) will give a more stable, slightly sharper image. I use link for sim-racing 🙂
