@Greek Young buck OK, except that Evil Buu came out of Fat Buu, so the two merging should have just restored their prior state, i.e. Fat Buu. Why didn't it? Well, Evil Buu became the dominant personality, right? But if something as simple as Buu's state of mind can completely change his form like that, why should removing Fat Buu just change it back to Evil Buu like it was a matter of simple mathematics? Besides, the Buu that was removed could have been the "complete" Fat Buu that included everything that made Evil Buu what he was. Who's to say what happens inside that blob of magical bubblegum?
The way I've always seen it, Buu isn't the sort of thing where you can expect changes to his form to be completely predictable, especially if they're based on removing parts of himself. In other words, it's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit.

    • @zaja2418
      @zaja2418 Год назад +53

To me, Grey Buu is basically a metaphor for the conflict between good and evil that existed inside Buu.
Kid Buu was the original creature, he then absorbed the South Kaioshin, and the Grand Kaioshin, the result being Fat Buu.
Fat Buu was not as chaotic evil as Kid Buu because, as a side effect of having them inside his being, the South Kaioshin and the Grand Kaioshin (mostly the Grand Kaioshin) transformed him into a different creature.
Now, Fat Buu was a whole new being that was born of Kid Buu + South Kaioshin + Grand Kaioshin (with the Grand Kaioshin having a little bit more of influence behind the wheel). This new being, however, still had evil in him (thanks to Kid Buu being in the passenger seat, so to speak).
What happened, from a Watsonian perspective, is that Grey Buu is basically Kid Buu's voice telling the Grand Kaioshin: "I'm not this obese clown. I used to be much more". Grey Buu is basically Kid Buu taking hold of the wheel and putting the Grand Kaioshin in the passenger seat, which created Super Buu as a side effect.
      I see it this way:
Kid Buu + Kaioshins = Fat Buu (with the Grand Kaioshin holding him back).
Kid Buu + Kaioshins = Super Buu (with Kid Buu using both the South Kaioshin and the Grand Kaioshin as a power up).
Basically, Super Buu is what, by all accounts, should've happened if the Grand Kaioshin didn't effect Buu in a weird way. Fat Buu is a fluke, Grey Buu is Kid Buu's metabolism trying to correct an irregularity in his system.
Of course, this is just a Watsonian answer.
A Doylist explanation is that Toriyama wanted to surprise his readers one last time.😆

  • @t5hammer871
    @t5hammer871 Год назад +21

My theory is that when Super Buu was born, Fat Buu, and all of the kais in him were put into a pod. When Fat Buu was torn out of Super Buu, all the kais went with him, spawning Kid Buu again since Evil Buu was the product of the kais being absorbed too (look at his clothes.)
Additionally, Skinny Buu (despite the name) wasn't "evil incarnate" the same way Kid Buu was. Skinny Buu was all of Buu's WRATH personified, IE A Buu of Pure Wrath generated by the near-loss of both of his friends. He killed Van Zant for what he did, then proceeded to beat the CRAP out of Fat Buu AFTER Fat Buu swung first. I agree that he is revenge personified and IS evil. But not Pure Evil. We see that Super Buu, then, is Fat Buu if his evil side was dominant. He didn't ACTUALLY get stronger but that with his evil side out, Fat Buu can access all of his power he absorbed from the Kais (including Dai Kaio which initially made him weaker). The main reason Buu, then, wasn't digested after Grey Buu turned him into chocolate could be because he holds all of the kai-energy. When Fat Buu was torn out of Grey Buu, it tore the Kai-power out of Grey buu too who was manifested from Fat Buu who ate all the kais. This forced Grey Buu to revert to Kid Buu, one without kai-energy to influence his form and his personality was completely overtaken by the wild madness of a pure majin.

The way I see it (which agrees with a lot of what you're saying) both "innocent" and "evil" Buu are two halves of Innocent Buu. I think the emaciated form of Evil Buu points to Innocent Buu having all of the Kais within himself still, but now having expelled all the evil within himself having come to understand pain and loss and *choosing* to change. When Evil Buu eats Innocent, he fills out and becomes "whole", basically Innocent Buu but with evil in full control and far, FAR less restrained. On the other hand, Kid Buu is the "true" Buu, before any sort of influence of good in his being. When the pod containing Innocent Buu was ripped out, it quite literally separated all of the essence of the kais and Innocent Buu out of Super Buu-- and with evil in full control, Buu loses his current form and undergoes a transformation back to his purest state.
In fact, it's kind of miraculous that Innocent Buu and Kid Buu can exist independently. You can chalk it up to "that's just because Buu is weird like that", but personally I like to think that it's because Innocent Buu grew into enough of his own person to have a "being" all of his own, without needing the evil within him to make him whole. But also, yeah, Buu is just weird like that! I think that's what makes him such an interesting antagonist for Z's final arc. Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, all of them have motives and reasoning to what they do that make them understandable. But Buu clearly operates differently from everything else in the story thus far, something beyond mortal rules and comprehension.

Kid Buu absorbing kais is what made him weaker, as soon as the "fat kai buu" was deleted from super buu's system he reverted back to his prime.
I personally never saw a plothole here either.

Matches with my own thoughts. Evil Buu is the evil version of Buu with the kaioshins in him. Kid Buu is without them influencing him, barring Fat Buu's temporary influence as he attacked Mr Satan. But the real answer is Toriyama was just throwing shit at the wall. If Buu had tried to purge his evil after absorbing Gohan, Piccolo or so on, the appearance of that version of Evil Buu would probably be been different as well.

This is by far the best breakdown of grey/kid/fat Buu I have seen. Great Video LSM!
I pretty much agree with your points and think it isn't a plot hole because the original Buu would of been pink I feel and that the grey is to symbolize that it's a completely different entity.
Maybe it's design could of been intended to be the original Buu but pink instead but it probably looked too much like super Buu but weaker so it wouldn't make sense.

Also based on what the manga said about condensed wrath and sh8n trying to remove fat buu too is rather interesting. Reason being if fat buu can just expelle certain emotions out of himself if put in a stressful situation then what's to say there couldn't be a buu for almost every emotion or some combo of two or three emotions? If there is no limit to this maybe because of magic or something to do with buu himself. We could potentially see another wrath buu or something else.

So Fat Buu (Who had two kais absorbed) basically created Evil Buu and Evil Buu (Who also had the two kais absorbed?) ate Fat Buu and became Super Buu? Or is Evil Buu just an altered version of Fat Buu but doesn’t really have the two kais absorbed and so developed a dependency on Fat Buu after eating him to stick around?

As awesome as an explanation this is and how it fits into the story, I think the reasoning simply comes down to artistic style in the end for the manga as a literal thing. I believe Toriyama just decided he was satisfied with having fun with his more silly designs and ideas and decided to go back into a more serious style, hence why so much of Majin Buu's identity seems to just vanish, despite both Evil Buu and Majin Buu combining. Toriyama gets rid of features both Buus share like the vest, the yellow gloves, anything that was exaggerating and/or hinting to a sillier style.
This is why I believe we suddenly have a very "Z"ish appearance out of nowhere, sleek, clean, buff, scary looking and sharp design. It's just Toriyama changing styles or going through influential phases and working them into the story. He had his fun with doing unexpected tropes like playing with magic and wizards or using a rather unconventional body for fighting super battles. When this change happens, it gets grim, all sense of fun seems to disappear, but he manages to keep the more unique abilities of Buu intact like using different parts of his body and what not.

I think you got exactly the right idea. Evil Buu was the evil half of the Buu with both the Kaioshins inside him, so not at all the same as Kid Buu. That still requires some suspension of disbelief in regards to how Kid Buu came around though, since you need to assume that all the Kaioshin power got somehow concentrated inside the absorbed Fat Buu when Super Buu came into being, rather than remaining distributed equally. Which makes no sense at all, but guess we have to roll with it.
I used to also think about why Super Buu is so strong, and I used the fusion argument - just like when Kami fused with Piccolo, they became much stronger than just a + b. But then when we were told that Buff Buu was even stronger than Super Buu, that argument kind of lost water, since it meant that Kid Buu with the South Kaioshin absorbed was already stronger than even Super Buu was. And absorbing a single Kaioshin doesn't sound like it should make someone stronger than fusion would, so I instead chose to think that Super Buu just gains access to a portion of the South Kaioshin's power which Fat Buu didn't have access to.
All in all, we can at least know that the South Kaioshin was mad powerful, definitely way above SSj3 Goku tier, probably relative to Ultimate Gohan.

    Here's my theory...
Evil Buu was technically born from Fat Buu. He was split from Fat Buu and was just a being that he bore out of the "evil" or anger in his heart. May not have even been a "true" Buu but just a creation. Kid Buu was the original form of Buu, just Buu with no-one else's influence.

I believe the answer simply comes down the body of Super Buu vs Evil Buu's body. When Evil Buu eat Fat Buu he gained the DNA of OG/Kid Buu, explaining why his body goes from grey to pink.
I always find it odd how the 2 Buus killed the shooters one used a standard Ki blast, while Super Buu killed him by a unique magic way with his new body. I believe Super Buu was testing his new magic body/abilites.
with Super Buu containing OG/Kid Buu's DNA the only thing keeping his Super Buu form was the fat Buu, after losing that his body simply went to most basic form that was in the DNA.

It's always been funny to me that Supreme Kai just kinda shrugs off the fact that Fat Buu is now good and running around with the heroes while South Kai and Grand Kai are still imprisoned inside of him. You'd think it'd be a little more of a conflict of interest. Yeah, he probably doesn't wanna rock the boat and potentially spawn another Kid Buu, but you'd think he'd at least want him dead alongside Vegeta after the battle, if only to set his old friends to rest. Either that, or Toriyama forgot they were even inside of him. I mean, DB Super basically forgot that Grand Kais were a thing, so...

Super Manga eventually remembered Dai Kaioshin at least. It'd be more accurate to say Super forgot all BUT the Dai Kaioshin. The direction Kaioshin and lesser Kai don't seem to exist in other universes.

Nice content. Always interesting to see peoples takes in some of the potential plot holes. I would certainly still say this is a plot hole; the idea that evil buu would have a specific form brought about from the lords could be a bit of a stretch; wasn’t it the pure hearts of the lords that calmed buu down into fat buu (or is that just translated anime)? How could evil manifest from a place it never existed? But if the evil buu is actually not fuelled by evil but by rage; it’s not like a being with a pure heart can’t tap into new forms due to rag, that would make more sense. Even with that being said; if you put 4 penny’s in a box and then take away 4 penny’s you should still be left with the same box as before you added those initial penny’s, which reinforces the idea that kid buu couldn’t have come about after stripping super buu from fat buu.

I was watching this video (need to finish watching) on a different device and thought of sharing a few thoughts based on your points. Mr. Buu is amalgamation of Buu and the absorbed Kais but got absorbed at one point then freed which could possibly purify the evil from his body further but also risk the ability of generating energy he once did. Since the Kais are a part of him, just not a major component, he could possibly still receiving energy from them. If that is true and hold some viability within the DBS saga, then isn't it possible the Mr. Buu can have a chance to awaken God Ki in the similarity of Kais?
Just an optimistic observation Mr. Buu achieve a god ki awakening/transformation. It can open up an era where pure evil Buu goes against pure-hearted god ki Buu. It opens up a whole new arc where Buu connects with the absorbed kais and grow as an individual being/fighter. I really hope so. It seems like many past fighters in saga have the potential to not only be better fighters but also kind people in their own sense.

Regardless if he makes sense or not, Evil Buu will always represent to me, the most iconic villain transformation in all of Dragon Ball. Everything about his short-lived appearence feels so powerful and menacing: precisely what Majin Buu is supposed to be. Not only that, but he also has the best kills and the most badass theme in the entirety of the English dub! That's right! (SSJ3's theme is overrated anyway lol.)
Anyway, this is completely unrelated to this specific video, but more to your channel as a whole: I'm glad that, despite using the manga as your main source of information, you never stop considering anime-only events and surprisingly even dub changes, going as far as mentioning such things from time to time in your discussions, which I find very considerate of you and appreciate it a lot. Also, this is more of a nitpick of mine, but I'm also glad you use the original black and white manga in your videos, as opposed to the crappy coloured version everyone else seems to use for some reason. As an artist myself, I ask, how can anyone actually like those washed out, generic colours with barely any variation to them? Ugh, that version of the manga personally reminds of DBS, and it makes me want to vomit each time I look at it.
Jokes aside, I don't know if this is your thing or not, but I'd love to see a video on Shin Budokai 2/Another Road someday. Most specifically about the game's story: a hypothetical Buu Saga happening in Future Trunks' timeline. Which I know kind of happened in DBS already, but unlike Super's version of it, the game's variant didn't totally suck and was actually kind of interesting with a lot of its concepts, such as the upgraded time machine, which was able to bring everyone from the present back to Trunks' timeline in the future to fight Buu; or Future Gohan actually being brought back to life and even obtaining the ultimate form, like his present counterpart did; or maybe even the multiple possible endings, both good and bad that that game had to offer! Point being: Shin Budokai had a better plot than the Goku Black arc and I think that deserves to be known. So go ahead and give that game a try sometime!

Something I've always been curious about is what would happen to Fat Buu if those two Supreme Kais were removed, by means of Forced Spirit Fission for example. A friend of mine believes that he would simply siece to exist, as without the evil that was once a part of him, those two are the only basis for him to be alive. I personally wonder if he would turn into a variation of Kid Buu, though possibly not quite as evil or insane, since that aspect of him is long gone now.
I offered Forced Spirit Fission as a way to remove the Kais because there's no reason for anyone to go inside of Buu's body, and even if somebody did end up in there, there's no guarantee that there's anything left of their physical bodies after all those millions of years. The Moro arc demonstrates that at least one, possibly both beings still continue to exist within Buu's subconscious, so they could be removed, though I'd say that physical extraction like how Fat Buu and the others were freed from Super Buu isn't a given, considering how much time has passed.

Kid Buu is the original Buu, after absorbing S supreme Kai, buff Buu took over. After the Grand Supreme Kai was absorbed, Fat Buu became the active persona of Buu at the time. So technically Fat Buu should have pods with the Kais inside of him.
Fat Buu was a combination of Kid Buu with the 2 Kais. When Grey Buu split from Fat Buu, their power was split between them with the majority going to Grey Buu. The Kai pods probably remained inside of Fat Buu. When Grey Buu absorbed Fat Buu, the evil side took over the main persona of Buu. Leaving Fat Buu with the Kais inside of a different pod inside of Super Buu. When Fat Buu (with the kais) were ripped from Super Buu, there was no longer anything inside of Buu to influence his form. Thus Kid Buu was reformed.
    That's my explanation
