Awesome video. I used to visit the Munitions Factory very few months for my work. Drove right past this station. Haven’t been to the area now for over 20 yrs. So it’s nice to see what it looks like now.
    Thanks for making the video.

I drove the third last passenger train to Rope's Creek on the Thursday afternoon. It closed on the Friday afternoon. Even though I knew it was closing, I never took any pics or recorded the event for posterity or even for my own collection. Same goes for Royal National Park. I do however, have a pic of myself standing beside my train at Sigway.

It's interesting to see how the area has changed since the closure of the military area and the railway corridor. The Ropes Creek line was a short line in Sydney's west. It was built during the war to serve the Department of Defence area to the north of St Marys station. It had 3 stations on it: Dunheved, Cochrane and Ropes Creek. The latter two were in restricted property(now housing)It's sad that where Cochrane station was is now houses.

do you know about buildings that exist at the entrance to the regional park an old one on the left as you drive into park and also 2 disused factories inside the park itself. i have walked inside wiannamatta several times just curious if you knew was anything to do with defence activities previously. i have found it very hard to find any information what the buildings are.

Another amazing video. Had no idea councils spent money wisely on restoring this type of thing and making a park if it. Well done & the video too.

Wow it looks a lot better than when you were last there. it's great that they have made the effort to preserve it instead of letting it rot away like Dunheved or something. They should treat more old stations like this. Thanks for the update :-)

The station sign bothers me, but other then that they did a good job. Also they should either get a red rattler or a u set and place it on display

Pity our so called "urban planners" did not have the foresight to keep this line open to service the rapidly growing population of the area. I bet many living there now wish they had a railway line to utilize rather than the long, boring daily commute to their nearest railway station.

fuoco13 It's not just this station of course. It's a pity State Rail had to close 80% of the entire passenger network around the state.

Haha yeh. A demonstration of outrageous stupidity to be sure. Instead of using it as a functional railway station to service the newly developed area, they reduce it to a garden folly.

@@brettonwoods9856 Its really stupid indeed. All new housing goes up, after they close the Railway. Very bad planning.

Close a train line & station, develop the area with houses, pack lots of people in it & then wonder why the roads are congested...... Sounds alot like Newcastle CBD.

@ 1:15 I’m suprised they didn’t put some more benches and especially public tables in that area like they have at Cockatoo island so people can go there and eat/play sit-n-relax under the shade.

This loop line was installed to cater for the growing community after many thousands of signatures. It cost the Government a fortune. It only lasted a short time.
