I'm AGES late into this, but mortar wood ants are MUCH BETTER than the rapid ones, especially at lvl3, 5 mortar wood ants with 1 tank can take any other ant army because of the full damage splash, idk why people don't like them, obviously they're so much better, it doesn't have to be against other ants either, any kind of enemy group would whittle down to atoms
I'm surprised but I appreciate the input :D I think the criticism in part comes from the cost to get their damage high enough to do that. Not just the cost 1:1 against rapid fires when you get there, but moreso on the way there. Using Rising Tide on Impossible as an example, with rapid fires I can fight the underground enemies really early and get a bunch of bonus food day 1 before night arrives and I have to defend. I seem able to scale this up pretty consistently to beat the level with an overwhelming amount of them, and I have no real need to level them up. Partly because leveling them up means less ants which (while it reduces hatch cost) gets me overwhelmed by spiders earlier. They 1 shot either way, move really fast, and ignore your front line pretty well so soldiers are ineffective. Of course you still need soldiers for the hermit crabs. This example is pretty specific, but it's what comes to mind for that level. For Queen of the Hill, I think mortar would be similarly ineffective at keeping ladybugs away early game which would make night 1 way less consistent(on impossible anyway). But I'm less passionate about that one, just explaining my understanding of the argument
@@dead3y3_YT there's really no counter point to the huntsman spiders, but for the ladybugs they're significantly slowed down by any kind of attacks, so if they're attacked by the melee wood ants or even the workers, they're slowed down and get hit by the projectiles But what sells it for me is that at late game in the game mode you were playing, besiege, all enemies clump up at the entrance of your nest, if you had lvl3 mortar wood ants, it'd an easy win, is what I'm saying, for the early game problem you can just use the strategy you used before using bullet ants in that other video Or well really I'd just do wood ants and matabele ants (he ones thay heal) and some bullet ants to stun big opponents and tanks against instakills
