      If you set the brackets equal to 0 and solve each bracket separately it gives you the answer of negative halve and positive 1 if you look at the bracket (2x+1)(x-1)=0 and then solve that respectively!! Hope it makes sense

    • @myxion2671
      @myxion2671 2 года назад +1

      when you are solving each of the brackets, you have to find the value of x
      in the bracket it is 2x so the value needs to be halved to find the value of just x
      so (2x+1) becomes 2x = -1
      then in order to get 1x you must half -1 to get -0.5

    Sir in a non calc paper would we be expected to factorise using the quadratic formula???? if a,b,c were whole numbers???

    Hi sir. My teacher has told me to use the quadratic formulae when answering these questions. Can you use the quadratic formulae as when I did a previous question and used your method. It was not right. The question was
    X^2-5x+6

    • @TheGCSEMathsTutor
      @TheGCSEMathsTutor  3 года назад +1

      You can do but it’s not ideal without a calculator when the quadratic factorises, the one you mention is (x-2)(x-3)

    im confused at 10:00 how is this possible beacuse dont either -1 or 1 have to be multipilied my 2?!

    • @cchloe_
      @cchloe_ 8 месяцев назад

      you do:
      2x * x = 2x^2
      2x * -1 = -2x
      1 * x = x
      1 * -1 = -1
      so, 2x^2 - 2x + x -1
      = 2x^2 - x - 1 is equal to the equation
      he got the half from dividing the 1 in (2x + 1)

      For example, if (x+4) is one of the solutions then to find y, the solution would be x+4=y so subtract 4 and you get y=x-4 2:02
