It feels good laughing alongside this album, yet not at it. They did a great job at making great songs, not just as funny things, but actual good composition, production, mixing. You can tell they're having a lot of fun at making this, but they're also very professional producers who know what are they doing. Making something both funny and good on purpose takes a lot of talent.
You're right, this is hard to review. A lot of people try to review this with "100 Gecs are the post-dystopian reflexive response of a discursive society angulated against contemporary blah blah blah" when really it should be described as "a stupid noise for stupid people but not necessarily in a bad way."
I found this album SO MUCH FUN. And I liked it a HELL of a lot more than _1000 gecs_ which was just... too much for me in one sitting. _10,000 gecs_ is 100 gecs but a little more accessible and I had a far better time with it. I also have to shoutout the EXCELLENT sequencing choice of ending the album with 'mememe'. What better way to cap off the experience by 100 gecs declaring that we'll never truly know how their mind works (or something along the lines of that)?
I love this album, it slaps! been a fan since 2019 and seeing them last year was a huge catharsis for me, the tour got delayed by about 9 months but it one of the most fun shows i've ever seen, was down the front on Laura's side of the stage and seeing her play guitar on 1 Million Dollars and being like 3 feet away was incredible! this album has the same energy as that gig and imo was worth the wait, my vinyl copy hasn't arrived yet but I've been playing this on repeat since it dropped!
Two songs in and it immediately clicked. Im a big metal lover and Billy knows Jaime instantly became one of my favorite songs this year. Ordered the vinyl cant freaking wait! I need to check out their older stuff
Quickly going up my personal top of the year, it's just so unhinged but also unpretencious while still trying to enhance the gecs experience so as not to only be what we'd expect from them. While their debut felt like the 2000's rawring sound focused effort, this new album is their 90's driven project with all the nu metal influences from the get go. Now I'm wondering if they'll double down on the LP with a remix version like they did with _1000 gecs_ into _The Tree of Clues_ That could be an absolutely bonkers release.
Seriously. This album RULES! I'm a bit sad that a lot of outsiders to their stuff will probably always think of them as just "the Money Machine band" when they have a lot of talent.
I wasn't a huge fan of the first album. I always saw potential in the project, but I felt the first album kinda felt more like a meme than something I'd listen to seriously. THIS album really sold me on them. It took the sound that they played around with on the first album and refined it into 10 bangers that I absolutely love! Still funny, but is something that feels deeper on a musical level.
I played this once, was immediately awestruck Played it again, had to go buy it Played it again because I just bought it Slept Then played it again I listened to this record 4 times in a row, and I wasn’t previously a fan. And I HAVE to call out Hollywood Baby for becoming the first song that will soundtrack my summer this year. It’s like pop punk was just reborn, and this time I’m old enough to witness it happen.
i've never been big into 100 Gecs or hyperpop in general (outside of that Fall Out Boy remix of Hand Crushed By A Mallet), but this album is the definition of dumb fun! 😂 those metal and punk influences really make this one stand out for sure
"the most wanted person in the united states" made me think of teenage disaster of all people, was wondering if you've heard his album creep and what your thoughts on it if you have
This legit is an album of the year candidate for me, as weird as that sounds Edit: is it me or the riff from the first song appears in almost every other song in a hugely bastardized way? I'm not the only one that hears this, right? I'm not crazy
2:03 or unless your record is so bad that you can’t even get your own drummer to fix it so he plays guitar, yk what i’m on about right? even he can’t save it. When josh freeze can’t save a record- you’ve done fucked it.

You have earned the frog's respect
The production on 100 gecs is honestly amazing. Yeah it’s a goofy and lighthearted project, but the production is genuinely genius
I’m something of a Laura les fan, a Laura Les-bian, if you would.

The first 3 songs on this album are absolutely S tier
Then Frog on the Floor comes in and it becomes SS+

Is it Gecs Night? I’ve been waiting for this for years.
That’s f*ckin’ Gecs!
I really didn't like their first album but I LOVE this album
Seriously. This album RULES! I'm a bit sad that a lot of outsiders to their stuff will probably always think of them as just "the Money Machine band" when they have a lot of talent.
This is MANIA by Fall Out Boy if it was actually good.

Slept
Then played it again

It’s geccin time! Also album of the goddamn year. I’m serious

this album even 2 months into 2023 is still my aoty
Loved this album a lot, maybe even more than the debut
agree, much more developed, and the whole thing is like a good mood in sound ... sugar rush making me smile
"the most wanted person in the united states" made me think of teenage disaster of all people, was wondering if you've heard his album creep and what your thoughts on it if you have
So you went with this one over the new Depeche Mode.
That's very... informative.
Very fun album! Loved it
It’s the perfect album to just go stupid hard to. Love it
Slowly amassing an army of gecs
This legit is an album of the year candidate for me, as weird as that sounds
Edit: is it me or the riff from the first song appears in almost every other song in a hugely bastardized way? I'm not the only one that hears this, right? I'm not crazy
You're not crazy and that is called good album writing
Making a hook that lasts is high tier writing

Great album review.
Frog On The Floor is the best song in human History
Immediate first impression: This is the kind of stupid I live for
It's a 10/10 for me
So who else in the comments is getting gecced this year? 🙋🏽♂️
