“Open relationship” is one of the options Facebook gives you when you’re describing your status (along with the now-classic “it’s complicated”).
People started posting comments such as, “Congratulations! Um, do you know what “open relationship” means?” and “Er, what do you mean by an ‘open relationship’?”
“Yes,” Janet announced proudly, “Doug and I are in an open relationship. We are always open and honest with each other. It’s so wonderful to finally meet a man who wants to be as open and honest as I do!”
So, a few people gently broke the news re: what Facebook means by an “open relationship.” Janet was aghast. “OH no! I didn’t mean that! I meant we talk things over!” It was hilarious watching all this scroll by over a period of several hours. (BTW I’m kidding about “dumb blonde.” Janet, even at our current age, still has beautiful blond hair, and she made the “dumb blonde” joke herself. :-))
