I love this song so much. Preoccupations could have dropped off the fucking Earth after releasing it and I'd still be like "It's cool, you made your mark, bro"
Definitely! The bizarre vibrato as the notes draw out is totally a david bowie. Also the gated reverb when he really shouts is very Bowie. Interesting perspective.
Im buying all these guys releases. This shit is well worth supporting!!!! I had to double check to make sure vietcong werent some passed over gem from the late 70's early 80's!!!!
correction, continental shelf was recorded by viet cong. they changed their name after the brouhaha. jagjaguwar, you can't retroactively change the sequence of events, its dishonest, because its inaccurate and you know it.
It's great to see Calgary's local music scene really starting to come into its own. There's been some really stellar acts here emerging over the last few years.
I would have change my band's name too out of attrition if venues are canceling my events or not booking me because of the perceived offense of the name. At the same time the Butthole Surfers got through that part haha
I really hate that they changed their awesome name in order to pander to the crappy sjw part of their fan base who think that every goddamn thing in the world is offensive. Like, the new name sounds generic af. Still a great song though. It's just a bummer.
This is literally one of the best songs ever made.
1:25 love those ‘AAAAH’ parts
Best part of this song
I love this song so much. Preoccupations could have dropped off the fucking Earth after releasing it and I'd still be like "It's cool, you made your mark, bro"
That synthy bit around 1.25 is facking class
+chaaaaaaaaaa15 too right man, gives me goosebumps
This is like... if they ever make anything after this that I'm not into, I can assume that I have no taste and it must just be beyond my little brain.
Pretty cool all the different sounds people hear. I hear a darker David Bowie sound in the vocals
Definitely! The bizarre vibrato as the notes draw out is totally a david bowie. Also the gated reverb when he really shouts is very Bowie. Interesting perspective.
The beginning reminds me of The Cure. In a good way :D
+quesera It reminds me more like Echo and the Bunnymen
Love this album so much
I have catharsis when listening to this one
i always wanted to see them live
i forgot that indie means echoey as fuck now
This
Greatest comment ever.
then you remember joy division in 1979. or the cure or the smiths or the stone roses.
+mikedfdf Jobs They certainly had an echoey sound but much of that was due to poor sound recording rather than deliberate choice.
No, that was the conscious decision of the sound engineer. He had an idea for a sound, and Joy Division came to him to record/release independently
Ryan McAllen
The reverb and delay in post-punk was always on purpose.
Im buying all these guys releases. This shit is well worth supporting!!!! I had to double check to make sure vietcong werent some passed over gem from the late 70's early 80's!!!!
like a 4AD band perhaps ???
@@mikebott6940 they'd be right at home on that label honestly.
Fucking brilliant
Great sound!
Grande malha!!!
+Carlos Pires olha olha quem eu encontrei aqui ahahahahhah
AK cristo em todas!
good musics
if twin peaks had a post punk theme
correction, continental shelf was recorded by viet cong. they changed their name after the brouhaha. jagjaguwar, you can't retroactively change the sequence of events, its dishonest, because its inaccurate and you know it.
Like if Interpol had never stopped making good music
This is what Interpol wishes they sound like now.
+2noided the recent album is fresh
They stopped :/
Or started!
ES LO MÁXIMO!!!
Put it @ the 1.25 speed! It makes it like sound like new wave
I got that vibe, it's really droney almost goth new wave.
reminds me of wolf parade way too much at that speed
haha nice find. We get 2 in 1 :)
Oh man...I think it's love.
tune! amazing album too
Fabulous! Very Good, Congrats!
nice way to start this year
Brilliant.
for the die hards:
Viet Cong - Live - New Orleans - Continental Shelf
this song is amazing. So excited for the lp
one of those "I almost forgot to listen to this today" songs
more bauhaus than joy division i find. or even early sisters of mercy. the body electric
Super bon
They changed their name??
+cool124ification yes.
People got mad
changed their name to what?
Mammoth track !
Tight
Come back to DC
Boom!
new name?

I know this is insane, but I'm hearing Psychic Trauma by Cloud Nothings in the intro lol
It sounds like a sped up version of Tom Violence to me or some other Sonic Youth song I can't recall at the moment.
To me, the intro riff it sounds like The Velvet Underground playing Pixies' Bone Machine
At 1.5x speed, it sounds completely new wave
+MrP1nk92 That's actually amazing
MrP1nk92 If New Order gone darkwave; kinda funny considering how New Order is the phoenix of Joy Division, and Viet Cong is the phoenix of Women.
this is the most useful comment i've read in my life
more like post punk revival, new wave sounds more relax
Daniel Herrera k
Y so catchy?
Que atmosfera, puta merda.
I would have change my band's name too out of attrition if venues are canceling my events or not booking me because of the perceived offense of the name. At the same time the Butthole Surfers got through that part haha
WOAH IF YOU SET IT AT 2X THE SPEED IT TOTALLY SOUNDS LIKE NEW WAVE OMG OMG :0
I'm flying.
Tab/Chords anyone?
i am javi jaguar xD
im hearing a lot of joy division in this :/
You say that like it's a bad thing.
I really hate that they changed their awesome name in order to pander to the crappy sjw part of their fan base who think that every goddamn thing in the world is offensive. Like, the new name sounds generic af. Still a great song though. It's just a bummer.
You really have no idea why they changed their name do you
CONDESCENT tell us why
why?
mark anderson many venues were rejecting them from playing because of their "offensive" name, and they were losing tons of money
That's his point. They were forced to appease the sjw fan base who instigate this level of sensitivity.
this song reminds me of arcade fire
