Ma Duece was my weapon for years. I tore down and put back together an M2 even before I ever took apart an M16 in the Army. I can still take it apart now, and can show people all sorts of things about troubleshooting and such. I became the go-to M2 guy in my unit. Just something about that weapon that I can't get over. Amazing weapon, and dependable. Our M2s also had old wooden handles with B-17 silhouettes engraved in them. When we got new plastic handles, the guys kept the B-17 handles.
@@johnfavalorojr.4169 Also mechanical troubleshooting when people assembled something incorrectly. I got to where I could assess a misassembled weapon and within 30sec, and without taking it apart, tell you which part was assembled incorrectly. I would then educate the person in question on how to know the proper way to assemble it for next time (Tricks to figure it out, when you forget and don't have the manual). I really love that weapon. Trained guys on the range, and got everyone in my platoon qualified expert, then took a team of guys on our scout gunnery range and set 3 range records with the M2 on a Humvee on our first try (we were given 200rnds for the course, we cleared it using only 40rnds with a perfect score). Overseas, a couple of us practiced together and could hot-swap a barrel, and then check headspace and timing in as little as 15sec. I really love the M2. The mere thought of it ever being replaced makes me sick. Mounting anything less than an M2 on a vehicle's turret is basically heresy to me.

The problem with being in a unit like that right out of the gate is that everything else afterwards is a letdown.

Hey Matt,, I used to work on these in Marine Corps as 2111. When charging the m2. Be sure to be palm up thumb away. You'll chew your thumb up real quick. Do not.ride the charging handle home either. As for lubrication you should try and see if you can get LSA. If you have any other questions about the M2 especially around timing. I'd be willing to help you out. Worst thing to happen is an out of battery detonation. That top cover will bow like no tmw.
When I trained with the army last year, we had a guy fuck up his timing. The barrel flew off the front! He was sat down and told stay for the rest of the day.
Those over hand pulls were making me cringe. Matt should get a former 2111 or GM (sry don't know Army shit but any enlisted Armorer would do) to show him around that thing.
Was prior active Marine Corps Amorer 2111. Seen many of these come in with catastrophic damage from timing being off. The Army had so many problems of ppl not headspace and timing correctly they put reminder plates on the top cover. They now have the M2A1 which has self headspace and timing. There are alot of things to check on the M2. If they have timing nuts they need to be checked and adjusted. The barrel shroud has a shim behind it. Meaning the shroud need to be checked for looseness. Then there's the rivets. New MAR ADMIN. states that there can be any number of rivets loose as long as the component that is riveted doesn't move. There's also staking marks that need to be checked along with a flat spring on the barrel extension. Those are known to break if you slam the barrel in too hard. Especially if you forget to push the Bolt and Barrel Extension back slightly to allow proper installation of the barrel. Quiet a few things to check, and having done it for years, it's backhand knowledge.
P-47: .50 x8 P-51: .50 x6 Hellcat: .50 x6 Corsair: .50 x6 P-38s .50 x4 (nose mounted, punched better than all the rest above because the firepower was concentrated at all ranges, rather than converging at set distance in a six foot diameter from the rest being wing mounted) F-86: .50 x6 (also nose mounted, but against other jets it sadly began to lack stopping power against the thicker, more beefy builds… but can still get the job done today for AAA) Solid gun, on ground, at sea, and in the air. Classic, amazing.
The only thing that’s changed is that they added a safety and the head space and timing are now fixed so you don’t have to fuck with every barrel you put on

Developed in 1918 hit production in 1921. Such a good weapon almost every plane and tank and some heros had them in WW2. Got to use a few in service for the 82nd airborne. Big bang.
what comes to russian version of that weapon, i give it some points, what comes to handling, its called, straight translation "a-a mg12.7" (anti-aircraft machinegun 12.7mm), it has like a motorcycle bar and an extra bar that comes over your shoulder, its a pro, cause the weapon is easy to aim, and trigger is in at the left handlebar. total con is that barrel, or the whole mechanism, its rocksolid, so the recoil will pop the whole tripod (pretty similar as you guys have there) up from the ground, that thing is like o rodeo horse to handle, theres usually a turf in that tripod, full of stones, sand or maybe couple ´guys from a squad. it just needed an apc or a truck to stay in foot. but when it was stable, dmn that thing was accurate and really fun to shoot.
When using a tripod for the M2, we used to put sand bags on the feet to avoid it bouncing that much. Its also a lot easier to fire with a reflex sight on it of course...

If you need a wheeled vehicle it’s possible to mount Ma on a 5 ton.
Headspace and timing. 💪
@@johnfavalorojr.4169 definitely!! Seen some blow up in soldiers faces not properly set!
@@SoloRenegade I was a Huey crew chief in the late 70's. But in the field, I was on a .50 cal crew. Carrying the tripod, or extra barrels and ammo. I remember being taught how to set the headspace and timing with the gauge. Damned if I could remember it off the top of my head today. I had too much to worry about keeping my bird flying and the two M60D's in order. Thanks to the 11bravo guys in the troop who flew with me on the other gun and knew more about them than I did.
Change a barrel and headspace and timing in 15 seconds. Quite astounding!
@@johnbrady1211 About 4 or 5 of us were bored one day, so we just drilled it. Barrel swap with gloves, headspace, check timing, ready to fire. Repeat. I got assigned to an amazing unit. Excellent leadership, and we made everything into a game whenever things got frustrating or miserable. Made us a better team, made us more skilled and efficient.

Same gun that Carlos Hathcock used, look him up
Was prior active Marine Corps Amorer 2111. Quiet a few things to check, and having done it for years, it's backhand knowledge.

what comes to russian version of that weapon, i give it some points, what comes to handling, its called, straight translation "a-a mg12.7" (anti-aircraft machinegun 12.7mm), it has like a motorcycle bar and an extra bar that comes over your shoulder, its a pro, cause the weapon is easy to aim, and trigger is in at the left handlebar.
total con is that barrel, or the whole mechanism, its rocksolid, so the recoil will pop the whole tripod (pretty similar as you guys have there) up from the ground, that thing is like o rodeo horse to handle, theres usually a turf in that tripod, full of stones, sand or maybe couple ´guys from a squad. it just needed an apc or a truck to stay in foot. but when it was stable, dmn that thing was accurate and really fun to shoot.
When using a tripod for the M2, we used to put sand bags on the feet to avoid it bouncing that much.
Its also a lot easier to fire with a reflex sight on it of course...

You should have checked the headspace and timing when Ma began single shots, that might have solved your problem. If you need a wheeled vehicle it’s possible to mount Ma on a 5 ton. While “technically” not a “technical” you can install a factory mount that allows the gunner to stand on the seat through the roof to operate the M2 360° which means you would need a circular range! Think of the implications a circular range! Remember the rule “ keep your weapon pointed downrange at all times”? No matter what direction your friends face their weapon will always be pointed down range. Simple rules for simple “ friends”.
