Electrolux / Westinghouse Dryer not drying normally. Heat Sensor? Troubleshooting / Repair / DIY

  • Hi all, In this video I investigate an Electrolux clothes dryer that I think may have a drying problem. It either takes too long to dry or finishes the cycle too soon with the clothes still being damp. But as the thumbnail suggests I end up replacing the heat sensor (some call it a thermistor) which seems to fix the issue. Hope this helps some one!
ps. this not only covers the Electrolux models but also the near identical Westinghouse model.

Thanks so much for posting this. I just replaced the moisture sensor in my Electrolux dryer. Crazy you need to order a whole loom... doesn't help the loom is literally one of the first things they install. Your video really helped!

No worries Ant glad it was useful mate 🙂 And really? Buying a complete harness just for the heat sensor is nuts 😮

Even if a Westinghouse/Electrolux dryer is not turning off or is taking a while to dry, I suppose that you can still use it on the timed dry settings.

Do you perhaps have the specification on that thermistor - perhaps something is printed on the cable near it? I cannot buy the thermistor and cable that you show in this clip so I want to rather just replace the thermistor.

As far as I know there is nothing printed on it. But I will double check when I get home tomorrow morning 👍

That heating element you accessed at the 1 hour mark. Can I ask what caused you to by bypass checking that? For my learning. Your is the first vid I've found on this mode (electrolux sensor dry) and Im attempting repair but struggling with diagnosis. Dryer runs fine but laundry comes out wet/damp. I've heard it could be the heating element or something along those lines.

Thanks for the walkthrough. I've got the same model dryer and need to replace the thermal fuse. Do you know of any decent online parts dealers for fuses?

G'day Jimmy, no worries mate. Too be honest I've never had to buy parts. Only Capacitors. I normally just buy them on ebay. I think you can buy almost anything there. Sorry I can't be any more helpful.

Good day Sir ,nice video! I have the electrolux edv6051,i change the fan coz it was making loud noises, after putting it back the dryer does not reverse tumble any thoughts? Tnx mate!

No worries mate. Really? Wow that shouldn't ever happen. Are you sure you left it on long enough to get a read? When you first start an Electrolux dryer they normally take around 8-10 minutes before they go into reverse for the first time. After the first time it should only take a minute or so before changing directions. I think you might have been a little too impatient lol. I use to think that when I first started fixing these things.
Normally the heater also only kicks in when it goes into reverse for the first time... or at least that's what I've observed. Give it 10 or so minutes. Great job fixing the fan by the way! 👍😎

After 10 sec of spinning it stops and still goes clockwise after that i can feel warm air comming out of the front vent.its been going for 15 mins now still no reverse tumbling.

@@victorcerna2521 Mate I'm stumped. Sorry for the bum steer earlier. I've fixed over a thousand of these and never ever come across that problem. And it was definitely going in both directions before you did the fan fix?
It's definitely a computer issue. I just checked one of mine of the same model and there's definitely no control to change directions on it. The only thing I can think of is that it's perhaps a stuck relay? If it was me I'd disconnect the power, pull the computer and just give the relays inside a gentle tap. It probably won't do anything but it's all I can think of sorry.
The relays are the 3 small little boxes on the circuit board. Next to the power switch. No idea which one is the the bowl direction control... I'd just tap them all and hope for the best. If I can think of anything else I'll definitely let you know Victor.

@@DIYDumpRat its been sitting in a corner for awhile,it was your video that inspired me to change the fan, im not sure if its reversing b4 i change the fan, could the capacitor be the culprit? Coz the motor would stop after 10 secs or so...

Great video. How to buy the same exhaust sensor?

Hey sorry for the delayed reply Samir. I've never bought one mate. I just use parts from un-repairable machines. But if I ever need the odd part I just jump on Ebay.
