Eaton M122 would be interesting one to test. I ran a home ported M122 blower with M112 Snout and adapter plate on my Terminator Cobra back in the day. It hurt many feelings and people couldn't figureout what setup was, popping the hood resulted in confused looks lol
Added power doesn’t quite measure up (5.3 combo vs 4.8) due to a lack of lbs/min air, IMHO. As someone else mentioned, it’s impressive that the little blower worked at all! Thanks for more interesting tests, Richard!
So the intercooler added 10hp and 12tq over the non-intercooled, m90 boosted 5.3. Beats a poke in the eye don't it? Pretty impressive for that little blower. I almost bought the caddy blower and adapter for my birthday today, actually yesterday since it's 2:00 AM now. I don't plan on running E85 or hotrodding it. I'm selling my caddy EXT which has been a great tow truck. My little 5.3 Avalanche doesn't nearly have the grunt the 6.2l has so I figured I'd swap a caddy blower on the Avvy. It's just a cleaner install and not as much dicking around as with the M90. It's already intercooled too. The cost would be about the same by the time I bought an M90, intercooler, adapter plate, manifold, porting, etc.
My dad and I are about to start building a mild 4.8 turbo motor. Budget build we're going to forge the internals and keep the stock crank. I'm probably going to run a Summit 75mm S475 Turbo. Looking at a good 500-700 whp. The transmission we're using is a TR6060 out of a 2016 Camaro. It's getting a two-wire speed sensor conversion. The vehicle It's going in is a 94 C1500 RCSB. The truck is going to be a pretty awesome build. Brembo brakes, coilovers/4-link suspension, 2010 Camaro SS rear-end, and all kinds of other upgrades. It's probably going to be a long project.
I think you should do exhaust length. I searched and did not see you so you should. BMW had a significant difference in the E36 with the hatch vs sedan. Same motor just a bit shoter than the sedan. Moar 8.1 vids please as well 🔥
@@richardholdener1727 I learned about Richard Holdener here on YT, but was reading through a much older Hot Rod type of magazine a few years ago and there He was. Richard has been propping us up for quite awhile.
Too many things changed on the 4.8 to make the test results useful. How much of the 4.8 gain was the larger camshaft? Likely more than the difference between what the 5.3 gained from the supercharger and its NA result.
The boost on the 4.8 will be higher if it has the same pulley ratio. The blower will be trying to push the same amount of air, but the engine will be trying to consume less air. Boost is just resistance to flow. And, is just a cheap and easy thing to measure.
@@richardholdener1727 while the 5.3 still had more overall power the percentage gained looked like a win for the 4.8 with how close they ended vs the na test.
Great videos Richard! Very informative comparisons. Been looking your videos alot lately, since i'm trying to find a good single turbo for my low boost N/A E55 M113. The difficulty is having 7psi for a 5.4 liter engine in a reasonable range. Now making 420hp with manifolds, tune and exhaust. If i calculated my VE right and the plot points for comp maps -pressure ratio 1.5 -25Lb/min (max torque N/A @ 3000) -60Lb/min (max rpm 6300) Obviously i end up at the low end of the maps, but GT45 with flowing turbine is close. If you have some insight, i'd be greatful. Thanks!
Hello, Does BTR 5.3 HOT ROD CAMSHAFT fit yukon 5.3 2008? Yukon 5.3 2008 has 4L60E transmission should I upgrade the converter to FTI STREET BRAWLER 3200 STALL SPEED Thanks a lot Thanks,
@@richardholdener1727 it wouldn't. You're running it in a ideal scenario . Now let it heat soak real good as it would in a automobile with all the various conditions they go through. Next thing you know it's pulling 4 or 5* of timing so it don't eat itself. Plus the extra complexity it's really not worth it for the 70hp you got over the 5.3. It's barely worth it on the 4.8. And you ended up limiting rpm on both.
V8 noises + blower noises = WINNING! 😎
BTW, I'm still amazed that little blower can make boost on a 5.3 V8.
I agree, if you want better supercharged hp you need to have better flow. Back pressure is not your friend. Back pressure shows up as boost.
Nice glad you’re finally letting us hear the motors sing.
this isn't the first video with dyno runs-lots of those up

M90 on an LV3 ?
Cant wait to see the video about the new setup Tom is making for you. Should be pretty spicy.
Gotta love cheap HP. ❤ Happy new year
would've been interesting to see the 4.8 with the better heads.
Had an 04 Dale Jr monte Carlo, #777, with that blower. Always wondered how it would do on a v8!
Great videos man.

Time for the M90 LQ4
why didn,'t you show the boost graphs comparing the 4.8 & 5.3?
Can you do a video with piston squirters. More boost with piston squirters?
squirters are for throttle transition

I covered the change in boost in the vid-dropped by 3 psi or so
@@richardholdener1727 ah I'm not sure how I missed that but thank you Richard (:
Would it be possible to do a back to back test of a stock head vs 3 angle valve job vs 5 angle valve job?
very difficult since it would require three sets of identical heads
I have a Lq9 and want to make a really good daily driver that makes good power down low what should I do
displacement, mild cam timing, long runner intake, long tube headers
TC-1 turbo controllers are no longer available. What do you recommend?
turbo smart
So Richard are you mass producing the adapter plate for m90? Or just teasing us all lol
yes-it is avail

@@richardholdener1727where?
What would you say the power difference between a 5.3L (LH8) and 6.2L (L92) would be mod for mod? My guess would be around 75hp.
a stock 5.3L makes 350 hp the way we test it, a stock LS3 makes 495 hp
saying this at the start, im gonna say the 4.8 could possibly make more cause the super charger is too small for the 5.3?
NOPE
@@richardholdener1727 while the 5.3 still had more overall power the percentage gained looked like a win for the 4.8 with how close they ended vs the na test.
THE CHANGE IN POWER GAINS IS ACTUALLY DICTATED BY THE LIMITED FLOW FROM THE M90 BLOWER-IT CAN'T SUPPORT WHAT THE 5.3L NEEDED

there is no map for a GT45-7 psi would put you near 650 hp-so the GT45 would work well
I found out there's no map for it, but it seems to be a direct copy of garrett G45 with 1.05 AR turbine.

Because it's New Year's Day here in New Zealand. Yeah BeayBeah!🎉❤😂😅🥝✔️🇺🇸🗽
Why not? It helps get the audience informed. I haven’t seen this video.

it was re uploaded because the 4.8L vs 5.3L text (at the beginning of the vid) continued through the entire video for some reason

NOPE.

I have 2.7 related mischief in mind, the question being will it be a beast of a large cube, NA small block or another approach entirely.
