  • Matt Monaco demonstrates on understanding and mastering the skew to the Rocky Mountain Woodturners on February 3, 2022. He discusses skew shape and sharpening. He shows a number of cuts and uses the skew to produce a wooden top. We apologize for the lower resolution video but are using Zoom for our meetings.

Awesome demonstration guys. Thanks for sharing. Longtime fan of Raffin and happy to see his legacy continues through great young men like Matt.

Nice work and thanks for the info, as a fully self taught turner it's videos like these that help keep me from getting hurt lol. I had no point of reference for the hatred of skew chisels and have always loved it. I often forget about using a gouge and find it the easiest tool to use. That said, skews catching can make you 💩 your pants lol. Thanks again man, great demo.

I was so glad to see a video on the skew, I’m always pleased with the finish it leaves, often times I consider it done “ off the tool”.

Play it back in .75 speed and it's perfect.

Interesting that no one said anything about about his turning with long loose sleeves which I thought were a no-no.

I was not able to listen as fast as you could talk. Kept thinking you had to be somewhere else so you were rushing your way through this thing. Not to say I don't appreciate the advice of experts, just wish this old brain could keep up. Thanks anyway

Lots of things to cover in a limited time. Thanks for the honest feedback, and
insinuating, admittedly (and rightfully so) that the typical age demographic of this craft is also a factor in your observation.

@@mattmonaco3435 I have noticed each presenter seems to be in a hurry, but I understood you just fine. Great presentation!
