You actually can swap 30mm rings into a planner with a 25mm backplate. I did it with my flamingo suede. The VDS touch me also has the 25mm backplate too now.
Best thing that ever happened for me was someone selling a deringed xl that they had taken the backplate out of - without cutting the leather!!! I had an extra set of 25mm rings and with the backplate that I put into the XL and I love it!!!

I wish I had seen this before I bought my VDS. I hate the wide backplate and how it makes the planner feel in your hand plus how big it makes it even with 25mm rings. I too have a personal Malden which is just right.
I own 29 ring bound planners, A5 and personal. Lol... but I just ordered my first Van der Spek in the Parme, cannot wait to get it. And I always go with the gold rings..
Wow that is quite a stash! I've really been happing using my rings as a bullet journal and wallet this year. The Van Der Spek planner is gorgeous and I'm sure you'll love it. I also tend to lean towards gold rings these days!

I like both companies but currently only own Gillio. Their pen loops are not my favorite but I adore the epoca leather.

That particular size is not restocked very often. If found mine in a buy/sell/trade group on Facebook. I linked the group I found mine in in the description box!
Thought Id mention when I got new 30ml rings for my Van der Spek TM They sent me the wider back plate but I didnt use it I left the 25ml backplate on and it has been fine. I havent had any issues with it.
Oh that's interesting! I'm curious what size backplate comes in the "Touch Me" planners if you order the 25mm rings. I'm not a fan of the bigger backplates because I prefer a slimmer planner, but otherwise the Touch Me line is fantastic!

Will personal wide inserts fit in the VDS or Gillio?
I'm not sure but the VDS but is wider than the Gillio so it might fit! I would try asking in one of the Facebook groups. I do know that Gillio does make personal wide planners so you can buy one specifically for that size.

Which one is your favorite?
If money was no object, the Gillio is definitely my favorite! The leather is unbeatable, the craftsmanship is superb, and the lifetime guarantee really seals the deal for me. The biggest drawback is availability because they sell out quickly and they cycle through production, so not every size and layout is available all the time. I've never tried a custom Van der Spek but I'd imagine they are very similar!
