WHAT that meaning is, however, changes depending on when you visit, I think -- what you said, or a reminder of the time ticking down until the Convocation's decision, or perhaps a more general reminder that our time is limited, and what we choose to do with that time matters. For EVERY moment, it matters. The time spent doing 'nothing' also matters, for that is when we are able to process what we've experienced, to enable ourselves to do better in the future -- to make better use of the time yet left to us.
In this song, I hear Emet-Selch's sorrow as he reflects on all he once had and then lost. A sorrow that, deep down, he had been wanting to convey to the Warrior of Light for a long time.
Yes - his motivations for why hes doing what he is doing makes sense. However.. he has grown wicked in his pursuit to revive his civilization. Hes perfectly content with genociding people in the 1st and the WOL to satisfy his goals. His sorrow has warped him into a vessel for evil and as he was stopped by the WOL I believe he knew what he was doing was wrong. When WOL struck him down; his last words were "Remember us. Remember that we once lived". Harrowing stuff from a dying man; he accepted his fate, and what he done, and all he wanted in the end was to be remembered.
@bad dreams Ah gotcha. so he lost his 'humanity' per se when he was tempered by zodiark. I think, then, when he finally was defeated, he had a moment of clarity, a moment of himself, shine through as he was passing.
@@XemnasKaijin They hint in his short story 'Ere our curtain falls' that he is tired, and doesn't care for the rejoining as much as the others. I can't remember the exact wording off the top of my head but they pretty heavily imply that he's only doing all of this out of sentiment for Elidibus and Lahabrea. They're both kinda losing it (Elidibus through his memories and Lahabrea through his body hopping) and he feels bad for them. It doesn't excuse all the evil things he's done of course, but it makes you wonder how much of it was driven by Zodiarks tempering. I personally forgive him by the time we finish Endwalker, but I can see why people would not. Whether people sympathise for him or not, I love that a single chracter's actions sparks so much debate in the community, it's a sign of excellent writing!
Just had a thought.... I finished Shadowbringers quite a few months ago. Today, about a month after finishing Endwalker, I decided that I was going to get all of the Aether currents I was missing. I saved Amaurot for last and walked through the city wearing a certain outfit that you get in Endwalker. Certainly made me feel a bit nostalgic. ☺️
everything about this zone was perfect. the height difference between the players, showing just how little Emet Selch thinks of mortals. the music instilling creeping dread with a quickly ticking clock and a somber piano, showing the inevitability and tragedy of its' fate. and that _FUCKING THEME_ i love this game, and i actually think it's my favorite game ever. words cant really express how great the story is, even if the first few hours pale in comparison Edit: endwalker spoilers in the replies. I agree with most of this but I think the height difference is actually just a testament to how tall the Ancients were compared to us and doesn't really represent any ill feelings from Emet
the height difference is explained in endwalker (and if I remember correctly that was already hinted to somewhere in shadowbringers about the ancients having much more aether), it's got nothing to do with emet's view of the sundered mortals
Personally, Amaurot was my favorite part of the expansion. The music was great, and it was amazing seeing Ascian buildings and technology, and learning about their society. Plus all the giants were wholesome and kind. I only played through it a few weeks ago and I already wish I could experience it for the first time again.
I did the story on launch without sleep from the very start and this part was just amazing, it made the xpac for me , all the patches where sub par IMO.
I can only think of Emet-Selch and how immensly burdened he was with all the memories and his duty which could always be visible in his face and overall mannerisms which i noticed later and it's just sad

Their reincarnated souls from everyone you know stuck inside them and will remain clueless forever about their origin. Your strength and knowledge are so overwhelming compare to them. Their lifespan is so short you stood as immortal to them. In their hands, the world will never see the hope to return to its original form nor surpasses it.

@@bigfoxki Not only isolation, imagine the extreme trauma of what they went through. Humanity has never experienced something that catastrophic, so it's impossible to know exactly how we'd react, but I can ABSOLUTELY see why something that horrible would have a major effect on someone's psyche.
When I played ShB, I used to talk to him everytime he was near my questline, and is pretty interesting, I just end liking him and could'nt get mad at him, on the opposite I feel kind some empathy and feel sorry for him.

つい昨日5.0をクリアして聴きにきた。最初はなんだこいつって感じだった彼が最初に分けられてしまうまえの世界を語った時の、本当に懐かしんでいるような感じから惹き込まれて、態々街だけじゃなくてそこに住まう人まで再現した彼の想いを考えると本当に胸が詰まる。この街に住む古代人達だって本当に優しくて、叶うなら世界それぞれがそのまま犠牲も出ずに、彼らの願いが叶って欲しいとも思うなあ。

みんなが良くSS撮ってた場所なのを知ってて、早く自分も行きたいなぁなんて考えてたんだけど、いざあの洞窟を抜けた時の広がる景色を見たら言葉が出ないほど、写真よりも自分が見た時の方が何倍も綺麗な場所だった。
でも、その後知ることや言われた事を思うと、自分が倒していい相手だったのか、このまま奪って生きていいのか、ただ1人で在りし日の世界を造り上げたあの人のことを思うと涙が出たわ。

後ろでなっている「針の音」。一体何を表してるんですかね。
終末までのカウントダウンのような気もすれば、進んでいるようで進まずに1日を繰り返しているアーモロートそのものにも聴こえる。もしかしたら早く世界を取り戻したいと焦っている真面目なエメトセルクの心のうちなのかも知れない。
自分は「時間制限」を表している印象を受けました。色んな意味で時を感じる場所ではありますが、ここはエメトセルクが創造魔法で再現した街。
あくまで、エメトセルクの魔力が切れるまでの時間ここにある空像の街。
その時を刻む、そんな針の刻む音だと思います。
5.0がやっと終わったんだけど

この曲を流しながら勉強をするとめちゃくちゃ捗ることに気づいてしまった
世界を滅ぼす敵にも、懐かしむ故郷があり、愛した仲間が居て、貫いた信念があった
ただの悪役ではなかったからこそ大きな共感を得れたし、そのバックボーンたるアーモロートにもこれだけ魅力を感じる事が出来る

エメトセルクは敵になったけど悪ではなかったんだよね。彼は彼の正義を貫いていただけだったんだ。

初めてアーモロートに入って古代人を見た時はあの得体の知れない見た目と声色で恐怖心が先に来たけど、漆黒最後までやったあとだとみんなを見る目も変わった。
いつ聞いても寂しさとか儚く消えていく夢みたいな印象を受ける。
ほかの街には無い綺麗さがある

After endwalker, I really think emmet selch is my favorite ffxiv character. Even though I hated him at the beginning.

最近漆黒の最終パッチまで終わらせました、
アーモロートの世界観や音楽、エメトセルクが大好きで。
今では放置してる時は必ずここで1人座ってます。
リムサにハウジングもってますがアーモロートのハウジングエリアをずっと待ってるくらいには大好きです。
今思うに何故アーモロートの人達はあんなに大きかったのか。自分のキャラをルガディンにしてどんなに身長を増しても背は届かない。子供扱いをされる。そこで思い出すのは自分達の子供の頃のこと。周りの大人に言われるままに動いて、何が何だかわからずに物事は進んで行く。何だか懐かしい思い出。思い出は過去であり変えられない結果(終末)である事を示唆してたのかな?大きな人達(大人)が居たのは自分達の思い出と重なり合うようにしてよりエメトセルクや真なる人達の暮らしを鮮明に印象づける為、若しくは古代の暮らしを知ってそれらを懐かしむエメトセルクに我々の感情を共感せさせる為だったのかなとか考えた。なんだかポエムじみてて恥ずかしいけど。

If you told an Amaurotine that their neighbours were inherently inferior, their neighbours land rightfully theirs, their destiny to conquer and reign supreme.. they would look at you with incredulity then politely ask you to join them in a debate chamber where they'd be happy to explain why you're wrong while always listening to your points and never belittling you for them.
The Amaurotines were all equal, only actions and ability mattered. They were peaceful, and would never resolve with conflict that which could be resolved in words.
Emet-Selch despised the weak, fragmented souls of the sundered worlds because they so easily fell to their base desires and the whims of megalomaniacs. He carried the burden of bringing back his lost world, his friends and family. At any cost.
Were his actions horrible? Sure. But I would any among us in his position do differently?
The best way I've see it justified was something like "As if you wouldn't sacrifice a bunch of bonobos to bring back your dead friends"
