- HURTWOOD 50k 2023 - Arc of Attrition 2024 Vlog Series, ep 2. Welcome to episode 2 of our Arc of Attrition series. In this episode we drive up country to take on the brilliant Freedom Racing’s Hurtwood 50k. Training has been going well so I thought this race would be the perfect way of seeing where my fitness levels are. The Hurtwood route is a lovely flowing course with a big mix of terrain and the odd hill thrown in for good measure! I had a fab day out on the trails and met lots of awesome viewers of the channel so sit back and enjoy the video.

Great video of a great day on the Surrey Hills. I'm caught on camera walking one of the first hills 😅, but after only recently recovering from a previous 50k, then a road marathon, and unable to do more than sixteen miles in the weeks leading up to Hurtwood, I opted to pace myself from the start, which paid off, as I felt good after the return to Leith Hill, and all the way back to the finish.
Finally got around to watching this - you made it look so easy! This Hurtwood was my first ever 50km and it was definitely dark by the time I got back! I'm hoping the conditions are a bit nicer for the 2024 one as I want to give it another shot! Really inspiring and good luck for the Arc!

Great to see this went so well for you Loyd. I was down to do it but I had a real 'life got in the way' couple of weeks. I've managed 70km this week with 30km on trails but TBH, I'm probably about where you were last year and I'm really on the cusp of ' will i or won't I' when it comes to starting Arc.
I have some time but just not sure if its enough. Might be a chance for a couple of down and back recces. I'd like to do Coverack to Lizard and the Lamorna section.
I've done Minack to Zennor but that was last year. Decisions decisions! 😱

@@Run4Adventure yeah I’m doing the 100. Been my aim since January and the reason I got into ultra running.
If all goes well with the Arc I’ll do a year of 40-60 mile events and training then dragons back in 2025 😬

Amazing high quality vids. A Quick question about navigating mud particularly with the Arc & mid runners in mind when the trails are cut up. Do you have any tips when the mud is deep & slippery?
There isn’t really any tips to give, you just have to be careful and go steady 👍
