This is how a pro does it , uses the correct tools for the job £450 solder treezers .Seen so many butcher jobs on youtube its nice to see how it should be done .Thanks for sharing .
More Nini! More Nini! What a beautiful dog, Peter! Thanks for showing us what she looks like! Oh, and thanks for the tutorial too! I didn't realize how small those SMD components are until you showed the old transistor in comparison!
I do like your explanation every time! But your dog is not interested in radio`s and just wants for a walk! Merry Christmas and a healthy 2021! from the Netherlands!🐺
BEAUTIFUL PUP!! BIG mistake, Peter!! You brought you pup on camera, now EVERYONE will be asking about her! lol Dogs always steal the show, just like the steal our hearts. Thanks for the great video and the great information and today, thanks for letting us all meet your gorgeous GSD!! :-D 73 de N0BPS
Hi there again Peter. So that R335 resistor that you so very carefully removed is an electrical short in the control circuit that has to be an open circuit for the Tx to function fully open. Love your dog. We have two older Springer Spaniels plus a new pup which is a crossed Westy and Shitzu. I lost my German Sheperd a few years ago and still miss her very much. I did not get a very good veiw of your super, heated tweezers. ? Are they a new line of accessory tools for SMD work. I have not seen before ?. I am getting old and behind with new practices Peter. They do apear to be very good for that purpose. What I do really need is a new pair of eyes to replace my 73-year-old pair. Before I finish off, I must ask you if by chance you know an old freind of mine who I met many years ago in Hildesheim. He is DL7FZ - Ulrich Wintzer who used to work for Blaupunkt then in 1965.
Thanks Peter for the very nice look into the TS990. Good video. One question... how do I get a service book for my TS 990s?I do not see It on the Kenwood TS 990s page.Jim
TNX Peter...I really like the darker face German Shepherds, so much more like the original when the breed was introduced (only within the last hundred years ago or so as I recall?). 73 - Dino KL0S
You are right Dino and we have another lady here with complete black face and a boy with a black/ gold face. This dogs are always great friends for ever...Thanks for watching 73
Superb video, Peter. So clearly and professionally explained. Oh, and I love love love the dog. I wouldn't be without mine. Greetings from Wales. MW6WHL 73
Good video Peter, like all your others. By the way, in the image at 6:56, it looks like the chassis of the IC47 chip is damaged. More precisely on foot number 7. Is my observation incorrect?
Thanks again Peter for a nice video. I have a TS990S and would like your opinion on the S meter settings. I measure on 20 meters that for a S9 it is 75 DBm where as I normally set it for 73 dbm or 50Micor volts I also measured my TS 480 and it was set for the same.Does Kenwood use a different level for S9 and if they do any idea why? Jim
Hi Jim I do not have the figures Kenwood are using in mind but there are some differences even -73dBm should be S9. S meters never were accurate as the characteristic curves are never linear from S0to S9+60db in an analog world. Today it could be made much better but it is always a question of money... 73
What a great show as always, Peter. However, many new o the 60m band German operators are using MUCH MORE POWER than is legal from Germany. In England we can use much more power, yet when working German stations, you know full well there is a PA at the back end driving an antenna with gain. I wonder if the surreptitious used of the PIN ATTENUATOR placed in the naughty boy's coaxial cable would remedy the problem. German hams. Please, play the game fairly.
I would have expected Kenwood to control this through software in their flagship radio but apparently not. Such a mod would be impossible to pull this off with a Flexradio. By the way, the unexpected guest appearance was very refreshing :-)
Great Video as always, That small of SMT is challenging and I would not attempt it myself as yet as I do not have the greatest of vision in my eyes, I have had cataract surgery on both eyes and while they both SEE pretty good my right eye is a little betterthan my left as the left eye had more internal problems, But I am not complaining as without the surgery I would be otherwisequite blind by now in my left eye especially. So I limit myself to THROUGH HOLE circuit board only that I can do quite well and I am happy with doing!! LOVE your DOG Give him a HUG for me !!! An amateur radio operator that I know has a dog called "RADIO" the dog has real tall large ears and is a BLAST to look at !!!! John Bellas KC2UVN
nein Nein NEIN... no No NO!! My TS-990s is as is from the factory. Want 27Mhz CB or other, go buy a radio to play with. The TS-990S is a beautiful radio. And wash your mouth out with soap when talking TS-990S mods 🙂
Your dog is the star of the video, I have a 14 yr old toy poodle, shes is my baby, she is never more than 2 feet from me Great video thank you Peter
Hi Dennis, yes dogs are just lovely! We have two more here.. Hope your poodle stays healthy for many more years! Thanks for watching 73

I'm using two different hot tweezers one is a Weller video #65 the other one is a Hakko video #170. Sorry no I don't know Ulrich Wintzer...73
Love the Dog Peter :)
LOL thak you Grant 73
HI Peter, if the 335 is removed is the 990 transmit on 40 MHz ?
Great video thanks.... Just one question.. Did you have to perform a full reset when switching the radio back on for the first time?
Hi Andrew, I think no can't remember but you can't do anything wrong... 73
Ok thank you.. I did not think they would be due to the long boot up on these radios... Thanks again.. :-)
Big thumbs up mate
Thank you Allan! 73
Thanks Peter for the very nice look into the TS990. Good video. One question... how do I get a service book for my TS 990s?I do not see It on the Kenwood TS 990s page.Jim
Hi Jim, just google for service manual...Thanks for watching 73
Like Kenwood, love Alsatians!

6:00 I aways knock things over or break things when I do something like that...
Hello. With which programming language is the radio system and graphical interface made?
Good video Peter, like all your others. By the way, in the image at 6:56, it looks like the chassis of the IC47 chip is damaged. More precisely on foot number 7. Is my observation incorrect?
Hi Miran, really can't tell the radio is back in service since without no complaints... Thanks for watching 73
Hi, Peter. Have you made a video on repair of VSWR meters?
Yes there are one or two videos here on my channel 73
Can it not be opened just for 60 metres? I just did this for my Icom 9100. I can open it just for 60, leaving it blocked for everything else.
And now... nice CB radio
The best CB radio ever
Janez Novak that'll probably be the greatest CB ever made. lol
Thanks again Peter for a nice video. I have a TS990S and would like your opinion on the S meter settings. No problem already passed over. Thanks John 73

Thank you David 73
I wonder what kenwood has against jumpers or just snipping a metal bridge.
Well this little 0 Ohm resistors are easy to handle in production so it is nothing but cost cutting.. Thanks for watching 73
Very good, Sir

I would have expected Kenwood to control this through software in their flagship radio but apparently not. Such a mod would be impossible to pull this off with a Flexradio. By the way, the unexpected guest appearance was very refreshing :-)

lol.. yes the 990is a very beautiful radio no doubt. But part of the truth is, as well, that it slowly comes into its age..
If you are a Ham and can't do this, sell your radio and buy some some marbles.
lol
BNN
BNN? sorry don't understand you...73
if you don't know to deal with SMD components on an $7,500 radio leave it a lone.... :)
