Been there, done that. My wife of 15 years decided to break up the family because " she had always been with the same kind of guy" (including before me) and wondered if she would be happier with a different type. In other words, she was bored. I couldn't change the essence of who I am, so she left. It was very traumatic to our son, although he was stoic about it. She was P*SSED OFF when she had to payout to me in the settlement, but went on to marry a Srnior VP at her company less than a year later, who is roughly 15 years older than her. Basically, she married her dad, who she idolizes. It seems like a guy can't win these days.
That was my ex. I tried for 3yrs to help her get jobs, get into community college so she could go to uni (like she said she wanted), help her with her severe mental issues, dealt with her toxic friends and family, stuck by her throughout all the shit. Only to find out she was talking to other guys and doing drugs behind my back. Found out she slept with another guy multiple times at some point. Like nah, it was absolutely not worth it at all.
I have been a counselor for 25 years and I can say that most people do not even know what a feeling is any more. Listen to people when they say "I feel..." if the next word is not happy, sad, frustrated or other feeling word they are expressing a thought or belief not a feeling. They do this because in this "modern world" people are told they have a "RIGHT" to feel whatever they want therefore can't be challenged on it. Defense mechanism against potential reality check.
I have had a habit of saying "i feel" when its really something i've thought up, and i think it might stem from having a lack of confidence. i'm trying to work on it, but i wanted to thank you for your take on it. it's a defense mechanism and i need to be better.

The CBT being taught today has been highjacked by feminist BUT that is not what it started out as. I teach my clients your thoughts bring your emotions into the world and you control your thoughts so you are in control and have no excuses for making a poor choice, it was your choice. As far as the prison population I am guessing you have limited personal exposure to it, I have had many years of it. That is WAY too dynamic a subject to sum up in a sentence or 2 as you have so I reject your premise as being malformed and substantially incomplete.

Alcoholics and drug addicts keep right on doing their thing until they really start to suffer from it. And even then they keep going until they hit rock bottom or wind up dead. People keep maintaining their addictions even after they wind up behind bars, where the consequences of it are lethally enforced. That's how resistant to changing ourselves we are. It's not for her to be jealous, but she threw me out. Now I am free to find a woman that will take the opportunity i give her. I would also get to know her as far as her history and how the children feel about her. While she's finding "Mr Right," i will do things for myself and the kids. Her head is in the clouds. That's when a man can get the best deal. She may even give him the kids. A woman that doesn't stick around is a woman not worth fighting for. Help her become a free agent to get rid of her. Throw her a party. Wish her luck. If she signs away her rights to the marital property and the kids, and she gets only a small amount to get rid of her, do it. Be agreeable to get what you want. When the cloud lifts, she will start to see what she's done, but it will be too late.

Hey, Christine. Thanks for doing the work you do. I was never the guy that thought he did everything right. But I can honestly say with my ex I tried, and took all her advice to heart. One day she exploded, so much, anger and fury, I didn’t respond to it, but I told her she had to leave the house. After that, she blames me for kicking her out on the street, and I need to make up for it, and prove myself to her.
If I acted like that, and she told me to leave, I think it would be right, no one deserves screaming insults.
But the fact that she looks at me as the culprit in that situation, makes me unable to move past that.
Is it so hard to just submit your own wrongdoings? I’ll take the blame when I’m always responsible, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have that same standard.

I loved what you had to say about faith at the end of this video. My most important criteria for a spouse is shared religious beliefs. I don't know what point Alexander was going to make, but I have definitely seen that faith can blind you to reality if you aren't careful. Usually this happens because we try to apply something the Bible says to a topic it's not actually addressing.

To be fair, confidence is extremely important in men. It would be interesting to hear more about what exactly she meant. If it's something small like "He doesn't slap my ass enough", that'd be stupid, lol. I worked hard before divorce. I got custody of our 2 young children and it lit a fire under my ass. Years later she said she really screwed up. Yep But she re-married the broke ass bad boy.
I had something alike happen i did not have children yet tho so no need for a fire. Her leaving was the best thing that ever happend to me made me realise she was useless anyway because nothing changed i still had to do everything myself. Now i found myself a real wife instead of a bottomless pit of money and energy and it still not being enough. And i told my ex exactly that when she said she should have stayed with me and tryed to get conversation going in that direction. Some people have no shame at all. My ex-gf left me about 15 years ago. She now tries to reconnect yet she states she left because she feared me. That at 1 point in our 32 month relationship I choked her. I didn’t leave any marks, no bruises, she didn’t call the police and she stayed with me for another 6 months
People, I have somewhat of a death grip. I can hold 300lbs with one hand for 30 seconds. No one is going to get out of that grip let alone not leave a mark.
She has a 7yo, divorced and at least 20 lbs heavier. Despite ALL of my faults she wants to try again because she’s lonely, tired of being independent and tired of working.

That poor guy in the beginning needs to drop that terrible woman immediately. She's just told him exactly who she is and what she's going to do to him. This is something I've made the horrible mistake of ignoring many times. When someone reveals to you who they really are, you should listen. They're not ever going to elevate past that. Unless they experience some kind of severe and extremely painful trauma that jars them into questioning themselves. Humans don't try to change anything until there's pain and consequences. Alcoholics and drug addicts keep right on doing their thing until they really start to suffer from it. And even then they keep going until they hit rock bottom or wind up dead. People keep maintaining their addictions even after they wind up behind bars, where the consequences of it are lethally enforced. That's how resistant to changing ourselves we are. Listen to someone when they tell you who they truly are. Everyone always does, and if you ignore it the consequences are on you.
I hear. Where are the good guys? Then I hear it's OK to leave the good guy. They all got left and said never again. All the good guys see they get better results by being the bad boy.

I always bow my head, and cross myself, before eating, and get terrible scowls from folks, when I haven't spoken a word to them. I've lived around faithless people my whole life, and if someone has no faith, it only affects me in one way. I'll have very little to do with them.

The woman that left the good guy will regret her decision later on. She's 31 and not 21. She could snag a sucker, but who would marry her again? They would ask her, "Why did you divorce him?" If she's honest, the guy would leave her because she proved to him she's a flight risk. While the husband can potentially get another 21 year old woman that would take his offer and never look back. That 21 year old woman would also flaunt herself in front of the ex-wife to show what that woman threw away. Nothing would make the ex-wife more upset than seeing her ex-husband with another woman, happy, and thriving without her. That's only if he gets over the feelings of betrayal because it is a betrayal. She may not have cheated on him, but she decided to walk away from the marriage because of her feelings. If this guy was me, i would help her pack, and move out. I would get her a divorce where she can be free of the responsibility of being a mom. I would smile and help her along until it becomes final. I would then start dating. I wouldn't try to get into a relationship, but I would show her she doesn't own my happiness. I would grieve the loss and improve myself. It's not for her to be jealous, but she threw me out. Now I am free to find a woman that will take the opportunity i give her. I would also get to know her as far as her history and how the children feel about her. While she's finding "Mr Right," i will do things for myself and the kids. Her head is in the clouds. That's when a man can get the best deal. She may even give him the kids. A woman that doesn't stick around is a woman not worth fighting for. Help her become a free agent to get rid of her. Throw her a party. Wish her luck. If she signs away her rights to the marital property and the kids, and she gets only a small amount to get rid of her, do it. Be agreeable to get what you want. When the cloud lifts, she will start to see what she's done, but it will be too late.
Also make sure you don´t overlook the green flags, very important to pay attention.

Marriage stopped meaning anything the day they made divorce possible and god has nothing to do with it it's a pact among humans. Till death do us part, accept if i am not happy they should make it, you do realise we married without priests and chuch long before that was a thing right? Nobody thought of divorce then because it is one of the few things among people that is suppose to mean something being there for a person till the end of your days so you can build something with confidence. If people tell me they are the once who started divorce i know already their word means nothing and if you can't keep to something to someone you love you sure as hell aint going to be truthful to the rest of us. I don't have any friends that are divorced, most are not even married so it is realy some social toxic disease that is going around in groups i think people giving the advice to divorce the second they see something go wrong in another relationship or when someone with a problem talks to them and there planting the seed of destruction. The days of marriage are numbered. I am "married" without contract as we used to do 100s of years ago before all this nonsense by just giving consent among eachother, gave her a ring and a romantic vacation and voila 11 years married, i don't see a reason why the state has to be involved in my relationship.
