The scene where Chief Brody is confronted by Mrs. Kintner always crushes me, because of Lee Fierro's performance and her recent passing, but also, as you say, Chief Brody was intimidated and manipulated into these decisions and he takes it all on board. On the one hand, it's a classic hero trait of taking responsibility when things go bad, which in my opinion is an underrated trait, but it's also unfair because he was goaded into these decisions.
Possibly intentionally on the mayor's part is that Brody is terrified of the water/being on a boat anyway, and it's not a secret among the townspeople. Having the conversation take place on that ferry is probably another layer of power move.

This movie still makes people afraid to go into the water though I think it's been established that this movie created a lot of baseless fear of sharks. Oh and the mayor is as ravenous as the big fish with teeth but at least the fish has the excuse of acting on primal instinct and not malice, greed or simply a desire to maintain power.

put the pollution to the side , trophy hunting since this movie came out, over fishing and shark fin soup have all but wiped out most of the various species of sharks
Actually just donated on Jill Bearup's channel! (Her's popped up first) As to your video...I've dealt with people like this SO often in my life. My sometimes guilty (but not always... sorry-not sorry) pleasure...is to turn the intimidation back on them...finding themselves shocked and surprised that in spite of their tactics, and larger numbers THEY are suddenly the ones feeling insecure and intimidated and worried. I call stupid and self centered as I see it...especially if people are endangered. Knowing they will not escape unscathed in regards to being held accountable takes the wind out of their sails really fast.
What about doom patrol? Are you still planning on doing Doom Patrol? The latest episode was one of its best.
