The funny thing is Jimmy and Matt probably write these sketches together and are probably great friends in real life. There was probably a time long ago where they were like “hey what if we have a running joke that we hate each other!” And it’s still going!

Nah, Jimmy started the joke as a throwaway line because his show was struggling. He randomly said Matt Damon's name because the joke was he had less than stellar guests but he can't make time for Matt Damon, a certified A-lister. Damon later found out about the joke and he got in the joke with Jimmy.
I'm sure they're good friends. I've seen a promotional photo of the 2 men standing side by side, wearing shirts that read, "I'm with stupid" with arrows pointing at each other.
Matt Damon just won a Golden Globe on this film, let's see how Jimmy Kimmel reacts on this.....
