Cycling in Strasbourg | Avalon Waterways Romantic Rhine Cruise

- Join us on the Avalon Waterways Panorama for our first ever river cruise! We joined Avalon Panorama in Amsterdam and spent 7 nights making our way down to Basel on a Romantic Rhine river cruise.
Todays port of call was near Strasbourg. Avalon Waterways had complimentary shuttles to the city as well as full guided tours. However, last night we were persuaded by the Adventure Host to go cycling in to the city instead!
Can you forget how to ride a bike? You have to watch this one to see Luke's reaction after 5 minutes of cycling.
Strasbourg was stunning, we had a good hour to explore in our own time before heading back to the ship, where we filmed some extra footage for our lets talk ship.
Tonight was also Gala night, so at dinner all the fabulous staff of the Avalon Waterways Panorama paraded around the dining room so that we could all show our appreciation.

Odd that the French onion has no cheese on top. I love lobster too. Nice to see the crew. Gaviscon chaser…love it.😂
Hehehe, it's so good ;) The food was really good on this cruise, but yes, it was not like the french onion soup where you have the giant crouton and cheese. Gaviscon is a must on a cruise after all that delicious food! ;)

No cycling for me, but you looked like you had a good time! Going in that river cruise in September, but on Viking. I’ll be in Avalon in 2024, so good to see the food and ship. Thanks for showing Fried rice and meatballs for breakfast-interesting! You had a nice cycle-looks like a good way to do see the town.

Brave or stupid hahaha! The guide was great, wouldn't do it on our own. Yes, the underwater one is the lowest grade. On our cruise these were on their website for £999, i think ours was about £250-£300 more. With so many included excursions and no shortage of deck space, this cabin would have been perfect for us too.
If you see Gaviscon appear on the after drinks list, you know why! :P

We do make ourselves giggle at times! Honestly, you'll have a fab time, keep looking at they do come up with deals, ours was selling for £999 at one point! :)

I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. You guys make this look amazing. I’m going on the same cruise in Oct 2023. One question: dinner dress appears fairly casual. Is that true? Are you in jeans and collared shirts? Thanx.

The dress code on this cruise was quite relaxed compared to ocean cruises we’ve done. Yes we were wearing jeans and shirts every night, and on the last night I wore a plain t-shirt with jeans.
Did Avalon provide helmets?
Yes, these were available if you wished, they can also provide maps and etc. This was an excursion, but bikes are available to all guests to go off independently if they wish.

We want to do this cruise but on a personal note would you feel it’s ok / friendly- for a mature gay couple of guys? On a bigger ship I like blending into the background so to speak.
Awww thank you! All the staff and passengers we met on this cruise were so friendly, we felt totally comfortable. When it comes to dining, they had tables for 2 if you wanted to be alone or if comfortable to join others or you make friends, larger sharing tables.
How do you guys get internet on land in a cruise. Do you get a cruise package for international calling, or do you get coverage of Europe? In the US, I’d have to get an international plan where they charge $10 a day if you use it.
We get charged £2 per day in the EU, but the great thing about Avalon is that the Whisper (the earpiece for listening to the guides) also doubles as a wifi hot spot, so you can use you data via the Whisper when off the ship - it's fantastic!
