Of all the reviews I have seen for plug-ins in over six years, this guy tops it all. So much of the right info. It's on par to Transport Evolved's car reviews and that's as good as it gets! No dumb, uninterested stuff like focusing way too much on 'Range Anxiety', exaggerated fear mongering on battery life (I'm looking at you, Carbuyer) or calling regenerative breaking the conversion of heat from the brakes into electricity... And this wasn't boring either!
+toyotaprius79 Amen ! I have seen all the awful so-called "reviews" you mentioned. The heat conversion balderdash was an absolute classic ! But don't forget Robert Llewellyn who is consistently good.. although not deeply technical. There is a privately done demonstration of the iMeV.. done by a fellow in New Jersey.. that I like too.
Bad advice, you're best off with a 3 year old certified preowned BMW i3. They're still under original factory warrenty and can be had for under 16k.from a BMW dealer. Face it, anyone owning over 7500 on fed taxes has a good paying job and is unlikely going to want a little junky car.
What a refreshing change; to see a professional reviewer a taking the mickey out of himself, and b, giving the viewer a 'warts'n' all rundown. EVs are definitely the future, and not everyone (including ,me) wants, can afford or needs a Tesla Model S. Well done, and many thanks for being honest!

I like the looks of this car too. I bought the Spark EV because it has the range I need and it has 400 foot pounds of torque so has lots of get up and go. I produce 100% of my electricity with solar, so EV is zero emissions in my case. I enjoy driving past the gas stations.
I had been car sharing a Leaf for part of the week. For the same price I have an i-miev 24/7. I LOVE IT!!! Surprisingly roomy. Great visibility. Great sound system. Moves spritely (D mode). I got mine coming off lease and got a great price. It is best as a city car, though I do some intercity driving and enjoy it. Like with Nissan's Leaf, it really needs better insulation for sub-zero winter driving or DIYaptitude. Overall, this car allows me the full electric car experience at a price point within my budget. Aaron's review is pretty spot on.

Nice review, very instructive, now I hope that electric cars will replace gas cars quickly (as digital cameras quickly replaced film cameras) so we can finally get rid of oil for a cleaner and better life, also the end of the oil mean the end of war $$ for many countries.
Fantastic little cars, I have a 2010, and plenty of room for a 6'3" driver. Now there is an aftermarket battery upgrade for it I have about a 155 mile / 250k range which is way more than I need.

I just purchased my 2016 I-Miev in Wisconsin and am shipping here to Omaha Nebraska. please more batteries 150 miles at least possibly 200 miles range, car looks great just increase the batteries and wheel tilt is missing put solar panels on the roof so it will charge during sunshine
Good to see an attempt at a more lightweight vehicle. The problem is that cars in the US have to handle high speed collisions with much heavier vehicles (such as a 5000 lb Tesla :-). But in urban areas, I think we'll find these lighter and cheaper EVs becoming a lot more practical over the next 5-10 years.
I had a serious eye on this model back when it was introduced. However, I like to make the occasional long distance trip and the range just wasn't there. Once battery tech improves, and if Mitsu adopts them, I would definitely consider it....or just convert my Mirage to electric.

I don't really care much for my children so I plan to take this vehicle on many road trips using the most dangerous highways in America...62 miles at a time.
60-70 miles is more realistic, and you might stretch a tad more, but about 4 miles per "notch" on their 16 notch "fuel gauge" then some left over reserve, when the Turtle light comes on... Fantastic car, i have loved mine and have had very little issues, and Mitsu stood behind a battery replacement 3 yrs into my ownership of a 2012 version, which is virtually the same as the new ones. At that point l'll get another three years out of it and will be in the market for a small EV truck or another imiev.
Great review, the thing at around 6:00 caught me off guard (kind of creepy, ngl) but otherwise great review on a great car! I've always loved the Mitsubishi i and i-MiEV for it's quirky and stylish exterior that was always different from any other kei car on Japanese roads at the time, so I'm glad that the US got a small taste of this weird and frankly very interesting EV!
Yes, the a.c will stay cool during a heat wave. I owned a imiev for three years and eight months. But I liked to open the windows for fresh air and to help the environment.

Aaron, you're a funny guy.. and your comments are well researched on the iMev..which is really now "old" technology. The other down point is the reportedly rough ride. This is a 'burbs or city car" pure and simple.. but with way more practicality in that role than fiat. The other thing not mentioned is that a used first generation leaf is half the price, and twice the car. I have never heard anything about battery life, cost, or availability on the iMeV and that is important, because these electric cars have the potential to last a million miles.. but not without batteries. A $25 mechanical timer will control any kind of charger... just like it does my electric water heater.
imiev is a 16 kw battery, early leafs are 24kw in a bigger, heavier car. also the early leaf did not have lithium ion batteries. the imiev bats cost about $8k now, but are dropping. you don't hear much about the cost because they have a 100k mile free replacement. my brother got new bats on his imiev free. l don't know why you'd want a timer on the charger. l stops when finished.
Bummer on the rear crash rating. Was in my list of cars to look at, but not any more. I need to pickup my kids and briefly drive on 60mph roads. I think the Pacifica Hybrid is probably the most realistic for my family. Hopefully, VW brings a plug-in wagon before I'm in the market again.
mrannen1958 wow that is pretty bad , what happened why the battery dont last longer. I heard Tesla warranty 1 million miles if that is true? How much are the battery cost in such car?
l think it's great. l think charging on level 3 is harder on them. Li Ion batteries like living between 10%-90% charge, so l level 1 (slow charge) at night to where there are only at 100% for a few minutes before l drive away in the morning and try to charge before under 10% ( this is harder for me). l was told batteries were $8,000 four years ago but they are dropping. l have 70,000 miles on mine in 3 years and the batteries perform nicely.

mrannen1958 wow that is pretty bad , what happened why the battery dont last longer.
@@mrannen1958 Nice. I have 35k on mine
Wow I've never seen one with that front end. Funny how they change them for US regulations.
