  • Line and Color Quick Start Guide: www.thedrawing...
This session was some quick head sketches to warm up! Nothing fancy in terms of design. But I often find it's best to start drawing for the day with something comfortable. Don't sweat it with your first sketches. The goal is to warm up. Just sit down and get into it. See what happens and build some confidence for the next set.
    Keep sketching!

Have you tried building your "Visual Library" ? Are there any exercises you have found to work well?

I find that drawing from life, and playing video games with nice aesthetics helps alot to give your art some cinematic feel epending on what you play

For me, breaking down art that you like, reverting it from a finished piece to a construction then to a stickman one step at a time really helps me learn the forms, and how everything works together.

Hi ! I like copying other manga or comic artist specific face features such as eyes, ears, mouth... in order to mix them in my own drawings. I also try to draw from different angles.

QUESTION: do you always draw like this when you are working professtionaly or was it just for the tutorial? just cuirous

@@Meantime_Creations I draw faster when I am working, sometimes I can skip steps here and there. I find I get the best result when I do it like you see in this video though. But yeah pretty much every head I do for a comic panel has the same type of construction as this!

Do you remember a time when you didn't know what to draw? As a kid, I mostly drew made up star wars characters (usually my own IP that was a star wars rip-off) and that always felt easy, but now as an adult I don't have any go-to things to draw. Is it a matter of fleshing out my visual library to give myself creative ammunition? There's awesome art online that inspires me so I think I have a desire to make those sorts of things but when I actually sit down to draw I end up just doing studies. This is less true when I make music or video games, I'm much more creative in those fields. Not sure why I can't seem to tap into that when drawing despite really wanting to do so.

I find that life drawing works very well for building my visual library, drawing it from multiple angles and breaking it down into structure to understand how to rebuild it from imagination

As a 3D animator I've always been a bit ashamed of my lack of 2D ability, so in the last few weeks I've been working on re-motivating myself to teach myself to draw, these videos have been a godsend for giving me that spark back so thank you for all this effort!

I wish Mr Mcburnie could make his sketches darker, when he start sketching.

Tim, I would like to thank you for all these amazing videos you have shared on RUclips! I grew up with a love of drawing and music. i remember receiving some sort of recognition for my art skills in middle school but after 8th grade i didn't have any more art classes. after watching your videos and buying some of those great Andrew Loomis books you recommend i realized despite my innate skill i never understood or mastered the concept of basic shaped and breaking down complex objects into simple shapes. i got into painting about 15 years ago but again the fundamentals were the things that were holding me back.
i would just like to thank you for making and posting these videos! it is really appreciated by many people, not just me! Thank you!

Hi M. McBurnie. I found your video intresting though I would have loved To see more links between what was drawn and what was discussed. Exemple: talking about where To get visual library for head, how to practcly practice it : copying, tracing, doing it from memory, building it, modeling it, symplifying it for example. Or may be drawing cars during the whole episode as it was mostly discussed or showing your drawings of the pistol you mentionned To see how you apply it To your self. I don't know if you see the point of my comment. I really appreciate RUclips discussions that are half abstract half practical so it tends to stick in your mind easier. Anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge! Bye

Codex..good call, it's good to be versed in all things that can be drawn, unless you're trying to specialize in one particular aspect of are art universe..try drawing things outside the Milky Way..
