  • Ottawa is raising some taxes to pay for the new spending. The budget includes a capital gains tax hike, affecting people who make over $250,000 a year. The government says the move will affect less than 1% of Canadians. Federal Opposition leader, Pierre Poilievre joins CP24 for his reaction to the latest federal budget.

Sure, they might have big income in one year, but that doesn’t mean they are generally very wealthy. A small business owner might well work for years to establish his or her business, barely subsisting for years because they are re-investing in the business. Finally, they get an attractive offer and sell it. It doesn’t take much any more when selling a going concern to sell it for over the threshold for the tax. So the person who toiled and strained to get the business going and living hand-to-mouth waiting for their time, now gets that time stolen by the CRA.

@@user-xs9ij7rr9f He owns two houses; one is his family’s home, the other one he rents out. His wife owns an additional one, which she rents out. She had a very moving interview a couple of years ago about that house. She had managed to hustle and scrimp and save to be able to buy it (before she met Poilièvre - remember, her family came here as refugees with nothing) and afford to live in it all on her own. It was a big symbol of all her hard work paying off. So when she and Poilièvre got married, the first inclination was to sell it and pay off some of the mortgage on the family home, or invest it for retirement, or whatever. But she just couldn’t let go of it, because it was her own accomplishment and investment. So they cut back elsewhere and now she rents it out.
Talking about being worth “a couple million” is nothing anymore, thanks to the rampant inflation caused by the Twin Thieves of the government and the central bank. Hell, technically I’m a millionaire just because of the equity in my house, even though I barely have any money left over after taxes, mortgage, hydro, and groceries.
I hate the new Canadian hatred of personal responsibility. It seems our media and low-grade members of our population foment and just seethe hatred for people who run their lives and business well, and detest the benefits of it.

Trudeau states they will build 3.9 million homes by 2031. That’s about 7.5 years from now. 3.9 million / 7.5 = 533,333 homes per year. It means 44,444 homes every month. It means 1,461 new homes every day. It means 182 new homes every hour. How likely is this? CMHC states housing starts in 2023 were around 223,000 and 240,000 in 2022. Only in 2021 did starts go over 300,000 (according to Trading Economics). What are the odds the government can double production? Also, by trying to do so, even if they do, this will massively increase demand for building materials and workers. This will drive up the cost of materials, labour, and land. These new houses will be some of the most expensive ever built. No one will be able to afford these houses.

In your terminal tax year (the year you pass), you have to file taxes and assets outside of primary residence, and other structures, are a deemed disposition for tax purposes. Provided they are not structured properly. So EVERYONE pays pretty much. Just a matter of when. In the US the capital gains inclusion rate is 20%. You have a Prime Minister that is telling you the Canadian to pay for his mistakes and administration. 1.5M immigrants last year when the cap is 500k. PP has a long history of being Harper's henchman, union buster, and corporate tax cutter. Pp will remove limits to minimum wage, strip all funding to education and healthcare, deregulate electricity so that it doesn't work any more and give all excess money to bug businesses.

By incentivizing for permits to be processed in a timely manner, and buy selling off 6000 government facilities that aren't being properly utilized, so as to free up land, generate funds and create more opportunity for business and housing.
