    I have no love for the Tories, but I happily cede the floor to those who have served in our armed forces regardless of the colour of the rosette they wear.
    A speech filled with humility and compassion. Today, I stand with Tom Tugendhat.

    Why on earth are MPs of the calibre of Tom Tugenhat being left on the back benches by Boris Johnson when his Cabinet is in such dire need of competent members.

      I think we should be careful not to overly criticize. Boris has instructed our forces to do whatever needs to be done to get our people out safely and rescue people. The Americans f**ked off, and betrayed the allied forces, so to be fair the armed Minister and Boris have stepped up. They tried to stop this sh*t show of an Administration in the US from pulling out, they tried and at least tried to slow it down. One thing for sure is that the defence budget isn't enough and my advice to the government is treble it or quadruple it for the next 10 years at least. We need to cut our costs on migrants and waste and double the UK military, its weaponry, and subs/planes and special next gen weapons. Our defence and safety as a nation must come first. We must also ask Ireland to start contributing to the UK defence budget, it has stood behind the UK skirt claiming neutrality when in fact its security benefits from UK defence. Time to ask them for 500 to 1 billion annually.

    • @ann3856
      @ann3856 3 года назад +1

      @@MrKarlyboy At least the UK have sound leaders. Not always perfect but still sound. Not the same in America. This 'event' will 'haunt' the US for many, many years. Questions are asked about who is really in charge behind the scenes. The Brits send people to Afghanistan to fetch their people. They went out in the streets to get them all. Not the same with the US. Majority citizens and Biden's own party criticize him for this action. Doubt he will be in charge for long.

      Oh how he revels in street theatre. Pass the sick bucket. Tom Tugendhat tediously never wastes an opportunity to milk to his advantage that he was in the army. One wonders exactly what he did there, probably protected and never in any danger just like Prince Harry. Otherwise he would surely be asking why the Afghans are not staying and fighting for their country. He certainly is not fighting for his and wants to flood it with tens of thousands of Muslims whose offspring will seek to subjugate and rule us. An ex Prime Minister warned us. A fine and brave man unlike Boris idiot who Tugendhat is in thrall to. William Gladstone held the Koran above his head and warned four times in Parliament: 'As long as this book exists, there will never be peace in the world'.

In my opinion Tom Tugendhat should take over as prime minister and together with Johnny Mercer put together a fresh new cabinet without any of Boris' people. No Michael Gove, no Matt Hancock and no Priti Patel.

    • @TheSalamander_
      @TheSalamander_ 3 года назад +2

      The point he is making is that this is the battle, not the war. The Chinese are already negotiating with the Taliban to create a new silk road to secure their strategic supply lines from Russia and Pakistan, and threatening Taiwan. That is likely to be the next battle in this war between freedom and totalitarianism. This was a battle 20 years in the fighting, and we lost without suffering military defeat, because of the will of the people broke. There will be another battle, and if we lose that there will be another one, until either the world is once again in its default state of totalitarianism or until we once again say on ne passe pas.

    • @mweston25
      @mweston25 3 года назад +1

      Technically they weren’t defeated, the objective was to stop the spread of communism, staying in Vietnam for 18 years meant the Soviet Union was pumping money they couldn’t afford into a proxy war keeping them tethered weakening their position elsewhere in the world. Besides Southern Vietnam didn’t fall to the north for a year after the US leaving. Much like Afghanistan it was politics not the military that caused the outcome. Don’t presume the war in Afghanistan is over, much like the mujahideen the Taliban were held together with a common enemy, now the common enemy has “gone” they will turn on each other, there is desire from the people to keep hold of the little gains in freedom they had under the previous government, the Taliban could easily see a full civil war or be fighting an insurgency.

    It's difficult not be moved by this, and I am no Tory. By Western standards, the Afghan army have utterly embarrassed themselves, but only a fool (or Western intelligence agencies) could have really believed an average 20-year-old Afghan soldier would put his neck on the line for abstract notions of political democracy and female emancipation, knowing that - by waving the Taliban through - he'll be lord and master of all the females in his apartment block by this time next week.

      ~70'00 ANA soldiers gave their lives fighting the Taliban. 70'000 of those average 20-year-old Afghan soldiers.

    The memory of fallen hero's should not be a reason to create more. Twenty years of support and commitment by the coalition forces was trashed in a few days not by the coalition leaders who decided to leave Afghanistan but by those of the three hundred or so thousand Afghan troops who decided to shed their uniforms and scurry away like rats because they were now faced with the task of holding a front line instead of those who came to support them. The coalition troops could never stay in Afghanistan indefinitely so if now is not the right time to leave then when is.

      Apart from those Afghan troops had already been holding the frontlines for years, since western troops were only working in rear echelon areas for several years now. What happened is that the Afghan government fled, and then those soldiers local tribal leaders told them to lay down their arms because the Taliban promised those local tribal leaders power, or at least to better provide for their needs than the Afghan government could. Only a handful of people in Afghanistan, mostly in major cities, actually think of Afghanistan as a country, most only identify with their tribe and when their tribe decided to side with the Taliban, they had to. There are still government forces fighting, but those forces are mostly made up of those who actually have a sense of nationalism.

    Kabul has fallen to the Taliban. Really?
    Hasn't it been liberated from unwanted foreign occupation?
    What country has created the 'Taliban'?
    Imagine if someone had invaded your house for 20 years
    claimed to make it better but has done nothing
    destroyed all your belongings.
    Tried to play the 'world police'
    saying 'We don't like the way to treat your women'
    then fled in the middle of the night.

    Marvellous, heartfelt and honourable words Lt Col Tugendhat. I hope your words - so representative of the sentiments of so many of us in Britain - reach the ears of the moronic, dishonourable, and race/gender-obsessed leadership across the Atlantic. I hope when they hear this, they still have enough simple humanity to understand such sentiments, although they would clearly never agree with them.
    Perhaps there is a logic in pulling back from a long - if not by now a very deep - commitment of personnel to this region. But to do so without consultation, before securing the safety of NATO nationals and families, with barely a thought for the brave committed Afghans without whom Allied loss of life would have been colossally greater, is not only callous and arrogant - but frankly cowardly and cheap.
    I am ashamed that my country is allied to a nation run by people such as these. I have been deeply fond of America and so many of its good, down to earth people for many decades - and I still remain so.
    But I now despise the cowardly virtue-signallers who have worked their way to the top of their political pyramid. I thought both Bush 41 and 43 had set the low ethical benchmark at the turn of the millennium, but after only 6 months of Biden-Harris we have already seen levels of arrogance and insensitivity well in excess of even the “Country Club” Republicans.
