    Leg day... The term gives that day a special meaning. Training legs. But if you start weightlifting, this term simly disappears. Squatting 4-7 times a week becomes a must, and leg day is not special anymore. I think people who coin that term don't train legs often enough.

      The best thing I ever learned and put into my regiment was Heavy/Medium/Light days. I was never a die hard so I did Heavy/Light days. Legs twice a week. Before I only did legs once a weak, couldn't heal fast enough in less than 8/9 days. Once I incorporated the light day, I could do legs heavy every 7 days. The light day just pumps blood into the sore muscles and heals them faster.

If your back can keep from buckling, the weight pretty much pushes your ass cheeks to the ground on a front squat.

      @robsmith4500 9 лет назад

      What are you talking about? Hip drive is a big source of power. Any pro guys these days use hip drive. All max rep squats have some element of it. Otherwise it's a quad dominant squat, which have their place (e.g. front squats or hindu squats even), but I'd never touch a max without it.

    • @beebrian2121
      @beebrian2121 9 лет назад +1

    • @robsmith4500
      @robsmith4500 9 лет назад

      Rippetoe talks about thighs out being the "master cue" and often refers to it as the only thing most people need to focus on actually. He then says there is more to it and that's not enough for everyone to focus on. But in the end he promotes thighs out as number one

    I hate to break it to some of you who are having orgasms about this video, but not all of these are considered perfect form and in fact some of them are flat out dangerous. 2:23 for example. The inward rotation of the femur-to-hip joints at the bottom of the movement before extension is highly, highly dangerous especially under that kind of weight. This could lead to shearing of the ball and socket cartilage, sciatica and major back injury. During the full motion of a squat your knees are supposed to maintain the same plane with very little variation from start to finish. Certainly not the type of lateral rotation displayed here.

      Kotally Savage what does that have to do what i said?kneed caving is in bad(these dudes are doing one rep max so the form does tend to break down, they don't let the knees cave in when they are training).My comment above states that ass to grass squats will not damage your knees(some people think is does and they are 100% wrong).

    • @kotallysavage6496
      @kotallysavage6496 7 лет назад

      Red_Spark you said knee pain was due to imbalances but it's mostly just people caving their knees in. I know form is worse for a max but they really shouldn't attempt a max if their knees are going to cave in. Also some people in this video knees caved in when doing multiple reps so it's clearly in training too not just for a max

    • @Red_Spark.
      @Red_Spark. 7 лет назад

      See the thing is.When you attempt you max lift.Your from will break down and from that u can see what parts of the lift you need to work on.Ill say it again.Your form should be as close to perfect as possible when TRAINING.My initial comment was about squat depth.And how you should go deep while keeping proper form.Going ass to grass will not make you knees cave in unless the weight is too heavy.If you never done ass to grass your lifting weight will have to be lowered.

    1:23 How *not* to squat: knees caving in, bouncing. Also @ 2:21

    • @ryann8348
      @ryann8348 7 лет назад +19

      Knees caving isn't always a flaw. It's taught to beginners as a flaw because they tend to do it uncontrollably even on the lightest of weight. Once you've spent years under the bar, have basic technique mastered, and your connective tissue is built up, some knee cave can be used to get more power out of the bottom.
      Also, when catching a clean/snatch, you're getting under a bar before it falls onto you, so some coaches actually teach fast descent/bounce because it mimics catching a falling weight. Other coaches dispute this line of thinking.

    • @altuber99_athlete
      @altuber99_athlete 7 лет назад

      Ryan N He isn't a beginner. Also that's *exactly* why I said bad form; even if that way he can use more weight, f*** that.

    • @ryann8348
      @ryann8348 7 лет назад +9

      Alejandro Nava No, I meant it's fine for experienced lifters who know what they're doing. You tell beginners that it's a flaw to get them to learn basic muscle control and technique. There's a difference between using some caving to get more power and caving because you don't know how to squat properly.
      Also, these lifters are in the sport of lifting more weight, even if it means some risk to their bodies.

      If your knees take it nifty, but it has been proven that the stress increase of going deep atg versus just below parallel drastically outweighs the additional gains to possibly be made. You are better off hitting parallel and then throwing in glute and hamstring work to make up for it.

    • @kylethekidable
      @kylethekidable 7 лет назад

      777_777 It's not a matter of it ruining your knees so much as it puts your knees at far greater risk than right at parallel or just below typically while only adding a slight improvement to growth and strength gains over parallel squats.

      @frodothehobo9938 7 лет назад +10

      the bro science is strong in this thread. the depth has nothing to do with how good or bad a squat is for your knees. its the fact that you can objectively squat more weight half squatting then you can normally handle, its the fact that you are moving a weight your muscles are incapable of fully handling that puts stress on your knees, but not everyone is capable of producing the ankle flexion comfortably for ATG squats, the best solution is to actually change your stance width to adjust for ankle mobility. people have squatted every day for years on end with no knee damage.
