I know I'll undoubtedly irritate some people here admitting this, but the Tropicana simply overstayed its welcome by between fifteen years to a quarter-century in how no one ever cared to invest proper money into its maintenance and upkeep and just left it an aging eyesore of a relic on the Strip. And with poor foot traffic there for a long while leading up to its closing date, people have to realize that that coupled with poor investment will have consequences and that no one should be the least bit surprised if one such consequence is an eventual closure and demolition. Flamingo, Golden Nugget and Caesars Palace, among a small handful of other historic resorts in Vegas and Paradise, have proven there IS a place for old-school resorts of historical significance and that it IS possible to remain relevant and popular regardless of generation. But part in how you ensure this is by proper investment and effectively allowing the resort to honor its legacy while also adapting to changing times, tastes and trends. But Aztar, Columbia Sussex, Penn Gaming, Bally's...............they all simply gravely under reached to outright failed in accomplishing any of that and just rendered it an irrelevant eyesore on the Strip for the better part of this century. So I'm honestly relieved it's finally being put out of its misery. 🤷♀ Still, I do genuinely sympathize with many of you who have fond memories staying there in previous decades and generations of ownership. It undoubtedly WAS a special place previously.
Seems like such a stupid decision- oh well too late now. How about that extremely strange footage of the casino floor at trop on Oct 1 2017? That ain’t goin away.
Thanks for the update Jeff, looks like they are wasting no time with getting it ready for demolition....Would be very depressing to see it become another bare piece of land on the strip if plans fall threw for the stadium as Vegas had lost too many legends over the years on the strip ...
I believe the towers didn’t have the asbestos but mostly the more older parts of the trop hence why demolition already begun on some newer renovated parts of the hotel.
The Havana Room was a originally a nightclub named Nikki Beach back in the day. It was renamed the Havana Room was mostly used for corporate events and conventions.
Thanks for the updates, Jeff! It’s a little strange how they’re going about the demolition or what’s going on with Bally’s in general. I know there Bally’s Sports Networks on Xfinity in Florida has filed bankruptcy and just stopped broadcasting completely. Interesting company…anyway, thanks again, Jeff! Keep up the great work!
Some good news I heard is that’s the stained glass ceiling has already been successfully removed and crated for storage with no damages. I would assume they want to put it in the new Bally’s property that’s eventually being put on site. Sounds like that’s going to be quite awhile
Thanks for keeping us up to date with the tropicana news. Especially as it can't be easy for you as it clearly has a special place in your heart. Will be weird having tropicana ave after the hotel has gone.
If I could buy the theater I would but my yard isn't big enough. I cried when they demolished my Stardust and Riviera dressing rooms. Hate to see these old girls fall.
You sound very somber and angry at times. I get it. In my lifetime I"ve seen some great ones demolished. The Aladdin, the Dunes, the Sands, the Riviera, the Stardust and all were great in their times better than the monstrosities that are built and give you a feeling that you are in a mall instead of a resort.
I believe this was all a ploy to close and remove the Trop and the get out of town and let someone else deal with it. Look at Frontier. Riviera Wild Wild West and more.
Back in 2011, the then owner Mr.Y wanted to recreate a Miami vibe thus the white facade and ocean themes of Sky Beach. In fact the club that predates the Havana Room was called Nikki Beach.
just a thought Jeff. what if the market wont tolerate any more casino / hotels currently. trop was the big looser on that corner. would love to hear your input as a local. .
There is always a demand for a casino or hotel. In fact, the convention business was very busy and at one point they were thinking of building a third tower to accommodate the business. But then Penn gaming sold it to Ballys as they were swimming in debt. Ironically now, Ballys is now heavily in debt as well.
@@JKStayinVegas Yes, Ballys is not in the best financial shape. Their new temporary casino in Chicago is not bringing in the cash they had hoped. That money is supposed to be used for the construction of a much larger permanent casino and large hotel near the downtown Chicago area on the Chicago river, So far it is not looking good! I hope they can pull it off!
Sad to see the Trop go. I saw the Folies show there back in the day. Is it set in stone for the ballpark being built there? Thanks for the video Jeff & keep up the great work! 👍
I saw the Follies there too back in the early 80's! Not only did the ticket include the show, but a complete dinner too. I remember the showgirls wore LOTS of feathers, but a few were missing tops!!🤣
@@michaelmichniak127 Yes! I remember you could see a dinner & a show for $10, The Crazy Girls Show & Enter The Night at the Riviera & Stardust. Those were the days, 👍
Good morning Jeff on this fine Sunday. It saddens me to see the Tropican go away.
Good afternoon Bill. It’s too overwhelming at times. *sigh*
I really enjoyed this especially what it looks like inside as they clean it out . I’m curious to what all they take out of there ?

All good points
MGM should buy the Tropicana. Makes a lot of sense for them to control all 4 corners.
I’m surprised they didn’t
Poor Trop, so Sad! Gonna miss you! Thanks for the memories. Thanks for the update Jeff.
You’re welcome Ken.
kinda sounds like they are putting the cart in front of the horse

Yup. Too late now.
I hope the Laugh Factory finds a new location in Las Vegas since it had to leave the Tropicana
I’m sure it will end up somewhere 👍🏻

Exactly!

I’ve never heard of the Havana Room. What was it exactly? A lounge?
The Havana Room was a originally a nightclub named Nikki Beach back in the day. It was renamed the Havana Room was mostly used for corporate events and conventions.
Thanks for the updates- makes me sad- I loved staying at the Trop- was a quiet place and friendly staff
Indeed!
Thanks for the tour.

Hey JK. I'm still watching your videos! Still love your videos. Staying silly as always.
JayL! How have you been!?
@@JKStayinVegas I've been well. Your videos are still great.

That is true. It will be part of the next update with before and after pics of the ceiling.
Great! That’s something I’ve been curious to see. Thanks for sharing these inside updates.

So true!
We still have streets named after the Hacienda, Desert Inn and Sands, so it isn't too strange.
@MACMAMI Cool. Had no idea they were hotels. Thanks.

Tearing the front down is not a mistake. They’re just getting ready to use a bobcat on each floor and will be pushing the interior out the cut out.
Interesting

If any portion of the building was built after 1977 then they can tear it down without fear of asbestos.
I believe this was all a ploy to close and remove the Trop and the get out of town and let someone else deal with it. Look at Frontier. Riviera Wild Wild West and more.
Dude. You sound tired!!!!! lol!!! Drink some water lol
Thank you Jeff that was very emotional to see how quickly The Tropicana is no longer a beautiful hotel and casino.
It is indeed.
Is the implosion in oct?
Yes
the hotel was dirty, they did not invest money in renovations that had been needed for many years. I don't feel sorry for them
My guess is there won't be a stadium going in there. Sad to see the Trop go.
Are they sale old funitures in the hotel ?
Memories….
You can see the old gold windows on top of the towers which is sad who idea was to put that white wrap on them
Back in 2011, the then owner Mr.Y wanted to recreate a Miami vibe thus the white facade and ocean themes of Sky Beach. In fact the club that predates the Havana Room was called Nikki Beach.
Is that white building the Mandalay?
Thanks for the update.
So sad.
Thanks for the update Jeff!
Nice update thanks
Why didn't they use that empty land where they were going to build that Ferris wheel for the stadium?
Good point makes more sense
I remember seeing Rich Little at the Tropicana, now threre’s nothing left but memories.
At least we have the memories
Walls are effective :-)
