One of the most useful things it can do is when you pitch one octave higher, it makes bass much easier to hear, especially in some dense or weird mixes.
I'm so glad I found this! I'm in your beginner course and literally spent an hour last night just picking out four bars of Emily and riding the tabs for it. So relieved that this exists! Thank you!
I bought this based on your recommendation 2 months ago, and I can say that I really do love it. There are mobile apps out there that do some of the functionality, but this program is best IMO. My son uses it for piano, and I for bass. Thanks for turning me onto it! I recommend people learn the shortcut keys, which can be found and printed if desired from the help menu. Just makes practice so much more efficient.
Slow easily without changing pitch 2:20 looping 7:10 turn on.... 7:40 system noteguessing, with the waves above the piano keys And The right side box depicts potential chords
+Alonzo Griffin hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover slow down the music try Lomonting Slow Music Mentor ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got amazing results with it.
Use this myself with studio monitor headphones, and in much the same ways 😊 DAW I have yet to figure out, and don't forget those measure/beat/subdivision markers! They help to visually tie in those crazy funky super syncopated rhythms to what you are hearing.... especially if you are just starting (like me) and want to accurately write out what you're transcribing.
Hi Josh! I finished your Beginner to Baddass! Course (Thank you!!) I bought this program thinking that I could use the Note Guessing to help me fix bad tabs and it has helped a little. I'm trying to learn This is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham and my ear tells me one thing, watching the performance video shows me something else and a YT video lesson shows something completely different. Any thoughts on how to use Transcribe! to help me? TYIA! PS started another bass course on a trial sub from another provider, will not pursue, just can't deal with sub-par teaching.
I'm following your suggestion to try and hear more bass on Living Color "Love Rears Its Ugly Head". When I'm in the FX panel and click "bass select", there's almost not sound, and when I turn it up all the way, there is this very faint distorted noise. Ugh.
Hmm, never had that happen before. Make sure you have the Mono/Karaoke tab disabled, maybe you're losing a channel of audio or something? Does it sound okay when the EQ is disabled? You can also customize the bass select effect once you select it just by dragging the frequency sliders, try bringing 320Hz up for starters. Different bass players occupy different little frequency pockets, so I always tweak the EQ from song to song.
Hi!! That s very interesting !! that should help speed up my transcribing those Jazz solos.. I have 2 questions; I have a Mac and and also a windows machine. Do I need to purchase it twice and pay double?? Also can it also help with identifying chords??
Informative video, thanyou. What I didn't see was music notes. Can this program show me what actual notes are played in a run or solo I'm trying to learn?
Not really, it's more of an assistive technology than a spoonfeeding technology. It will do spectrum analysis and stuff but I can't imagine using that to auto-transcribe anything.
On transcribe the software what are the Audio formants can be use for importing and exportng export out so that I can bring them into the say a daw or download from RUclips etc...
Hey Brian, I assume you meant "formats"? I don't know the specific list but it seems like it can handle pretty much anything, .mp3, .wav, .m4a, .aif, and you can bounce from Transcribe with your tempo/EQ/whatever changes as a .wav, .aif or .mp3. It handles video too, which is pretty cool!
Josh, i'm about to buy this product. Have you used the tuning function? If i want to adjust the tuning to 1/2 step down in transcribe, is it -1 octave? Thanks for the help
+Joseph Navarre Yeah I use it a lot. You can change pitch and tempo independently, and you can change pitch by octaves, steps and/or cents independently. So for example, you could change a songs key from C to B with one slider, or if a song was slightly out of tune you could adjust the cents slider to get it in tune with your instrument. Also, you can use Transcribe for free for 30 days if you want to check it out yourself!
Hi. Can you use this software to create guitar tabs of like a solo guitar music you opened in Transcribe! which you can then print or convert to a gpx file? Can you change the visual keyboard to a guitar fret board? Thanks for sharing. I never knew that there is a music software that can change speed without changing the pitch.
Nope. Transcribe doesn't do that much work for you, it mostly just lets you modify audio files. I don't know of anything that can accurately "auto-transcribe." Plus, you'd be missing out on the ear training, which to me is 99% of the point.
Thank you for the response and the advice. I'll remember what you said regarding the ear training. Thanks for sharing that important point. Thanks again.
Thunderbird Gal I would start by learning all the parts from the original track - bass line, guitar/keys parts, vocal melody, then just try sticking them together and see where it leads you!
I record a lot of keyboard onto the voice memo on my iphone. Will this software be able to listen back to what I've played and tell me what I was doing?
that's not really what it's for, it's more for giving you tools with which to use your ear to transcribe more efficiently, not to autotranscribe. if you want auto transcription, you should just record your keyboard straight to midi!
To people trying out transcription for the first time, "transcribe" will not be as easy as it comes off here. Bass is definitely easier than guitar or drums to identify, but even that can be difficult. The issue is lack of clear audio. When people play real instruments, not midi or synth, there are a lot of extra noises and imperfections throughout that make the sound muddy. When you slow it down, because you can't isolate a single instrument from the track, it becomes an extremely distorted and sludgy, digital mess. Beginners beware, using these softwares will work, but only with a lot of work put in. It is not a quick and easy solution by any means.
melvin hunt Nope, here's the answer from the FAQ on the Transcribe! website: "Is there going to be a version of Transcribe! for smartphones and tablets?"I don't think so. The reason is simply that I don't have the time. I certainly expect to continue improving and updating Transcribe! for Windows, Mac and Linux desktop and laptop computers, and that takes up enough time as it is. Of course one solution to this would be to employ people to do the work, but that doesn't appeal to me as I have no desire to become a manager, and I greatly prefer the laid-back hands-on approach which I currently have. There's also the fact that there are already quite a few slow-down- and-loop applications available for iPad/iPhone/Android, most of them at very low prices. I intend to check them out properly at some point, as I might have a use for such a thing myself! Yet another point is this: Transcribe! is quite full featured, and this is what distinguishes it from other applications in the same general area. But if I did a version for smartphones and tablets, it would be necessary to lose quite a lot of features. This would result in a product that wouldn't be very much different from other products already out there - so what would be the point of that?"
Sudarshan Raghavan That's a great idea, i only use Audacity for recording, it's great since i just plug my bass into the "line-in" port at my computer and yet the quality is great when i use Audacity.
All the tutorials seem to have a stereo waveform view. This is such a waste of screen space for most applications: in "Preferences -> General" tick "always show mono waveform" ... tada, much better :)
Works for any audio file, it's not an instrument specific program. The only difference I can imagine for drums is that it's harder to EQ out other instruments since the drumkit inhabits a wide range of the frequency spectrum (i.e. kick is down low, hihats are super high).
It looks good but you can't import you tube tracks which is a big let down. I took out the trial period but won't be buying it cos the YT thing is where you can get tracks and albums that are no longer available.
@@gilassp Thanks for the tip i'll have to try it. The difference having dedicated software makes to learning stuff is unbelievable. Being able to loop is great as opposed to watching on YT and constantly trying to isolate small bits of music which is so time consuming!
I had the free trial for this and it was all double-Dutch to me! If you've got a PhD in computing then Transcribe is really easy to use! If you don't have a degree in computing then Transcribe is a waste of time and money!
74hz Maybe if you're really good at your DAW, but for people like me who are still using Garageband, it would be a lot of work to get this much functionality.
What I need is assign every piano key to a small part of the real song in order to play the piano key togheter the sound of the small part of the song for guessing what note is being played in the song by cliking the piano key with the mouse plus the arrows, (UP one step in the OCTAVE or DOWN one step in the OCTAVE), and bellow the piano keys appears the midi line or the graphic note (AS IN SIBELIUS) for exporting them in a MIDI FILE. Somebody knows something like that? Write me: webmaster@solocoro.com
This answer Is a bit late... But on an analogue recorder, such as a tape recorder, video, vinyl, changing the speed changes the pitch. Doubling the speed raises the pitch by an octave. That is what the analogue lock does, it makes the pitch go up and down with the speed. Untick the 'analogue lock' and the pitch doesn't change with the speed.
That's true, but most people don't know how to use a DAW and there's a bigger learning curve. Transcribe does less, so it's simpler to learn and it's hard to "mess up." Personally I still use Transcribe even though I could do all the same stuff in Logic.
One of the most useful things it can do is when you pitch one octave higher, it makes bass much easier to hear, especially in some dense or weird mixes.

Thank you for including that tip!

I personally can vouch for Transcribe! I use it all the time when I'm learning and making sheet music arrangements of songs. It's genius. Buy it.

hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover slow down the music try Lomonting Slow Music Mentor ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got amazing results with it.
I've learned so many songs on bass I never would've gotten on my own, and that's just with the free trial, gonna buy it after it ends.
I just got it yesterday and I love It. I used it to start learning a solo that I would never have been able to learn otherwise.
Nice!
This totally answered my comment on your Q&A video! Really great Josh, Keep up the good work!
Rikko Lewis Reables Thanks Rikko!
Buying this is $ well spent. I use this all the time. For loops try the a key to start and end a loop. Makes it easier to create the loop in time.

I use Transcribe for more than 10 years:-) they should implement autotranspose wth each repeat so you can practice in halfsteps.
thanks Josh, I got it and have been reaping rewards continually since then!
Nice, glad you're digging it! It makes life so much easier.

Hi Josh. Both T4Mac links just go to an empty cart - nothing else can be done from there.
Hi
I bought this app but the screen does not look like urs. How do I open this?
Thanks
Very helpful software, and very affordable for our pockets!
Great Video Can you find a chord ? please let me know thank you
I use Adobe Audition to slow down the song, it works for me. Nice video!
can we read a video with this programe ? how ? thanks
Thank you, I've been transcribing a lot of vocal harmonies lately and I'm sure this'll be helpful.

SO helpful Josh. Thank you.

I should! I love making bass arrangements. There'll be a little surprise one later this month, actually... :)

Have you tried the Same with Reaper. I do that with my Reaper Daw. I don't know which one is better, but i can do it well with Reaper.
It seems like the keyboard layout would be one of the most useful features.
Yeah, it's great. I often use it to initially find the key of the song if I don't have an actual instrument around.

can you do a video and pdf for "The Love Of Money" by the O.J's?
does it show you the notes !??!
brilliant thanks for sharing this! ^^
this vid really helped me, thanks :)
Slowing down and looping is definitely not cheating. As a keyboard player It has become apart of my religion
Definitely a must have indeed :)
