This is the first time i have ever seen nunchuks used and held like this. The power you generate with the 2 hand method and experience you have makes alot of sense. Its really cool and definitely makes me rethink alot of things. Thank you for your video.

This is a really eye opening video for me. Most people just focus on doing juggling tricks with nunchucks, and not how to actually fight with them. Those two handed blocks you were doing made a lot of movements from kobudo forms make sense in a way I had never considered. Thanks for making this video, my friend! Yes, there are all kinds of serious issues going on in the world today, but sometimes it’s good to reflect on the past... when everyone was Kungfu fighting.
You should add your voice to the discussion, Ramsey. Sadly, it seems Shad is planning to ignore all this amazing feedback, and attack one particular youtuber called Milani Fitness. Milani has 10 subscribers... and Shad has a history of picking on smaller youtubers. He even made a gangster-like comment, saying, "it'd be a pity if you got dogpiled by my many fans...."

He answered Milani Fitness because that was the best video in his opinion, covering most points of all responses, and his intention clearly is to avoid a young RUclips channel being overflown with bullshit spam, which happened in the past because other RUclipsrs never respected this impact of different subscriber counts. I agree that I would love to see Ramsey throwing into the mix, mostly because Shad and Ramsey are alike when it comes to analysis and direct approach, but it might not be Ramsey's expertise (at least I never saw him dealing with Nunchucks, maybe I'm wrong) and that would ruin the point of the discussion. We don't need another voice of "Yes, Nunchucks can break bones" while the main topic of "Are sticks better than Nunchucks?" is still not scratched. For the record: Sticks absolutely can break bones too.

I believe artistic license is at play, but it certainly hurt him. Yeah Ramsey fill the bag with rubber mulch, they make great targets. Makes a good bag to hang on a speedbag platform to practice the Pining and Trapping techniques. It adds variation. This video is amazing! I've been doing double hand swings with Nunchucks for about 15 years now and I can see how much damage you put out on those speedbags! I definitely did learn some things from this video and I thank you for that. Awesome video, I especially love that you have been training the weapon for so long yet felt no need to showcase it until now. Definitely some impressive speed and power, it’s obvious you’ve put the time and training in. Your channel has some of the best bag work. You inspired me to build a double end bag a few years back with a simple how to. I’ve been training more elbows and slips than I would have otherwise. Look like it is true,the best way to recieve a straight and complete answer on the internet is to say something wrong. I once considered nunchuck a bad weapon,also because i couldn't find anyone using them properly,not anymore,and since Shad posted his videos,many youtubers posted complex and complete answers to the effectiveness of nunchucks. Looks like another wave in the fantasy media generated by Shad will be a more prominent role of nunchaku.

Uh... wow! This is the first time I've seen nunchaku used this way. It looks more secure that way and yeah, it does address the issue of control. Great control on those multiple targets by the way. Holding one end with both hands that way kinda turns them into flail. Question: Where did this style of using these nunchaku develop? Is it a self-taught style gained from experience or were there multiple people using similar techniques at the time when Bruce Lee popularized them? Also, can you show some more offensive techniques holding both sticks with 2 hands?

I wanted heavy, and hard Nunchucks so they would issue greater devastation to an adversary ... Not being a big guy 145 lbs. = I began the 2 handed strikes to compensate for the heavy chucks ... So that a rebound would not BOP me, I learned with my two handed grip that I would let one hand touch the rope after the strike, which put a quick end to that stick going where it wants . I.E. that stick go's where my hand on that rope wants it to go ! Over the years I hit myself countless times. Except for the time I hit my self in the Balls in front of my mother who laughed her ass off, I never really hurt myself. Just bops and Bumps. Now after many years I almost never bump myself. That was fantastic! Super unorthodox but amazing. One of the problems I have found is people call nunchaku stupid based on watching someone who doesn’t know how to use them. Most of the time you see someone who has learned it from watching movies or from a martial artist who learned it from watching movies in the 80s who tried to draw more customers by starting Chuck classes. But even though this is totally unorthodox and unlike the traditional and practical ways of using nunchaku I’ve encountered, it conforms to everything positive I have learned about them in my 15 years of practice. I’ll definitely be incorporating some of this into my own training.

Before carrying a firearm, I carried some chucks in the driver door of my car. Im capable with them, but always thought the fear factor was more. I wouldnt mess with anyone twirling the nunchucks around!
Great Video brother. I been practicing martial arts for over 20 years. With weaponry being part of the learning. I know how to use many, but the 2 sticks are definately my favourite! Can they break bones? Of course, especially collar bones and eye sockets. At 25pouns of pressure per square inch. Their a great training tool for the core. And can be used in Many ways for self defence. The only people that will speak against them, will be the ones that don't know how to use them. Peace

Im glad to see that im not the only who trains with nunchucks this way. The deflecting and blocks always felt like wing blocks in kali. And the hooking Perry felt like something that one could do with a sarong. The ol saying in kali " kali lik kao" (sorry if that is spelt that wrong) but in english " you are kali!" Resinated with me because in way it felt like permission to be playful.

1 Year later this video has made the nunchak into one of my favourite wepons. It is a very fun and creative weapon. Good in close and mid long fighting. The weapon for a trickster and artist because there is so many ways to use it

Nunchucks are very similar to hitting someone with a hardwood stick of a similar size, but with more portability because it's folded in half. No one questions if a thick hardwood stick can hurt you and a set of nunchucks is essentially same thing. I agree they can hurt you pretty bad. It doesn't take a genius to understand that. I don't understand why people think they are useless.

No, that is completely wrong. Hitting someone with a nunchaku is not at all anything like hitting them with straight hardwood stick. When you hit someone with a nunchaku you're only hitting them with the weight of one half of the nunchaku and nothing else. When you hit someone with a rigid stick, you're hitting them with a lot more, because it is not just the weight of the stick but you can actually put a lot of your own body weight behind the strike. So a rigid stick will hit with about SAME SPEED, but with more than 100 times weight behind the strike. And, yes, it is the same speed. Even though the other end of the nunchaku can momentarily move at higher speeds than a straight stick, it only does that when you're changing the direction of the movement. It does not add any extra speed to it when you're actually hitting someone with it. Getting hit by a nunchaku can hurt a lot, but it does not do any real damage. A rigid straight stick is far more effective in doing actual damage like breaking bones etc. and is actually a lot more versatile in other ways. Nunchakus are garbage. Not completely useless, but almost.

Hand bones can be broken by simple punches, sticks and nunchucks offer more leverage. Wrists and forearms? Maybe... wrists are particularly weak and people break or fracture their forearms from arm wrestling and falling over on them. Sure a straight stick is more damaging, you're trading strength for portability with a nunchuck. I'm not arguing with you on that one, but a sharp knife is more dangerous than a dull knife with a rounded point, but the dull knife can still hurt and kill. It's ridiculous to think a nunchuck is completely useless, they can seriously hurt you. Hitting anyone with a blunt object is dangerous and potentially deadly. Blunt force trauma is no joke.
@@maxgilbert18 This is completely laughable... The children are learning physics from SHAD instead of school? Is he really so stupid he thinks only HALF the mass of the weapon applies with nunchaku? It seems the better the response video and demonstration is, the worse the tantrum of Shady-fans. Though, if you haven't already, check out Kevin Gray's video. He visually demonstrates that nunchaku inflict a lot more impulse than a plain stick, in a test. Physically, they have to... they have the same mass but have a longer swing arc than the stick, so of course nunchaku will have more energy. Shad brags about how he never went to college for got a formal education, and I can see why.

Grab this 50-60cm stick like you would for a combat and press the scale with the end of it. And now wonder how much force can generate the swing and the rethink if you can add to this force anything more from your weight:)

I appreciate nunchucks now. Any reccomendations on where to buy some good ones? I see the point now. It's a stick that you can bend in half and you don't need your own muscle really to bring it back and be ready to hit again. And the twirly motions act like shadowboxing your way to your opponent to hide the strike and confuse them. I need to get me some of these.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT in my video response to Shad, except this guy has first-hand experience and I was reporting. There is no substitute for real combat experience with a weapon, no arm chair namby pamby theorizing can change that. We don’t have to wonder if chucks are garbage, we know for a fact THEY’RE NOT if we know the real history of the weapon. 1970’s, 1980’s, in the streets. NY, Miami, all the big cities. I KNEW THERE WERE DUDES LIKE THIS that know first hand how horrifically bad Shad’s take is on this weapon, knew it for a fact but just don’t know this man myself. So glad an old school martial artist set the record straight. In a fair world there would be no more argument and everyone, Shad included would listen to warriors who know better on these things. All I ever argued against was Shad’s 3 video uninformed rant, backed up by chuck swinging that looks like a drunk with a blindfold (if you can’t actually swing the weapon, you can’t judge it) because actual experience says the opposite. Are they better than a straight stick? Maybe, maybe not... but Shad told over a million people this weapon is absolutely horrible without researching the known history of the tool at all, or learning how to swing it competently which should take a martial artist an hour (?) if he consults with someone that knows. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge. I go to Miami every year and would gladly pay to train with you and hear some old stories for my weapons research and books. You and my sensei would really get along.
Well said! I think Shad is well aware of your video, and is fearfully avoiding it. Milani should work with you and the others to make an amazing rebuttal, to force Shad to acknowledge your devastating points.
Wait so we can agree that chucks are dangerous in the hands of a master right? What about a random guy with no experience? If your home was being robbed and you had no chuck experience would you grab a stick or chucks? There is a reason why a pointy stick (spear) is one of the oldest and most effective weapons for noobs.

Here's what takes years to master, to learn to twirl it around your body at high rates of speed, switching from one to the other without looking, etc. Anyone who has learned to twirl the chucks bonks their head and all that in the quest to learn those things. To learn to competently use this fighting flail is a different story. Simple, direct, effective- you can get their quickly. It's just that everyone thinks of the former as being part of learning to fight with the weapon when the two things have nothing to do with each other. Just my thoughts.

As a beginner DO NOT be concerned about going FAST or being POWERFUL, but rather look to be PERFECT in the mechanics of your body (Bio Mechanics) ! If your mechanics are good then Power & Speed will come. Learn the basics, and make effort to perfect them ! We never ever do perfect the mechanics, but that is the target that we never reach PERFECTLY ! I spent more than 50 years looking to perfect my skills, and although I'm EXCELLENT, I am far from PERFECT. So I will in todays practice, seek perfection AGAIN ! In a nutshell = go slower, and pay GREAT ATTENTION to what you are doing ! By going SLOW or moving in a SLOW MOTION, it will be much easier to notice what you are doing, whether it's right or wrong. Shadow box often ~ in front of a mirror when you can ~ Study your body much like a body builder does. Throw punches slowly and notice what muscles, tendons, joints, bones (Bio Mechanics) are involved, and which ones are not involved. Another tip be carful in sparring! You should not be getting beat up in sparring. So don't spar till you have a good handle on the INPORTANT basics. Don't spar with people who want to use you as a punching bag. The only issue i have with your style is the control, if you train hitting a solid object ( i trained with a tree) it will bounce back and hit you. This would be very very difficult with your two hands technic to master. otherwise great vid.
Awesome..I like your two handed transitions and striking with the head of both handles, that’s actually a form of striking close quarters that follows up to a grab as one would need to stun before attempting a grab.. your two handed transitions are also breaks or dislocations after you have a limb wrapped up. Just discovered your channel today and subscribed. I like the way you are using both hands. The closest that I have seen to this is a demonstration by Fumio Demura in the Warrior Within. I just saw my old 14 inch nunchakus in my barn and was thinking I should pull them out and practice if for no other reason than hand eye coordination. The song and reference to everyone carrying nunchakus brought back a lot of good memories. Back in the day we all made our own. I'm curious about the logo on your shirt. Wondering if you are familiar with the falling step that Jack Dempsey used. If you are familiar I hope that you can post an instructional video about it. Also have wondered if the hand hits the target before the foot lands, the same time the foot lands, or after the foot lands. I believe before. I have asked others on you tube but have never gotten an answer. Keep up the great work.

The nunchaku is known as a reach weapon, and two hands does reduce your reach in two ways, but your style trades that for some amazing power and control. I had only put a little thought into using them two-handed... but now I can definitely say I will transition to two hands for a strike when I can. Thank you for this excellent response video. Nunchaku are ILLEGAL most everywhere... but if some fool pulls some out on me- and they're at least 6-7 feet away-- I'll pull something that goes a LOT faster-- abotu 1,250 ft. per second faster!!! (.45 auto).. I also carry a hickory cane and can easily handle multiple attackers with it--- including nunchaku carrying ones- and HAVE. I have high ranking black bellts in 5 arts- including Hapkido (cane, chuks, tonfa and more), Kenpo (sticks, arnis/cali style and more), wing chun, jeet kune do ,and aikido. (most pretty much useless on the streets..) but I'm also retired fed bodyguard and ex ranger...with 40+ years experience.. With over 1000 transactions ( I call encounters/fights) transactions because someone ALWAYS pays for them one way or the other).. I have ONLY 2 losses.. so I think I know what I'm doing. (been in jungles, in gnagland LA- and bars, you name it).. YOU are RIGHT- chuks can easily break bones-- and that's why they are HIGHLY ILLEGAL in MOST states now!!! My CANE (which is even MORE deadly (due to extended reach and movement).. is legal EVERYWHERE.. and IT"S ALWAYS in my hand- I don't have to "unconceal it" as the gun guys do... OH- and YES- ONE HIT AND QUIT--- for the ATTACKER - not YOU!!

Hey long time no see huh Punch Professor, but indeed good things come to those who wait, your technique makes sense you definitely have more control two handed, however don't you think you would generate more speed one handed, I know I generate alot more speed hitting a baseball holding the bat one handed than I do two handed. I apologise if it seems like Im trying to question your technique, Im not. Its just another way of approaching the dynamics of a swing, like the cliche that says he who laughs last, laughs best, which sometimes is true, but sometimes the person who laughs last just thinks the slowest( haa haa). So I guess Im really asking if a one handed strike in your oppininon might move faster, wow you see that Punch Professor you got the kid thinking about combat scientifically now!!! The nunchuck is usually hold with one hand when striking but with gripping its hold with 2 around the shoulders or doing the passes. I like to train in the nunchuck since my back ground is Taekwondo and Karate.

@@weaponman3872 When you get the clay blocks, you can try out a two-handed strike with the nunchaku, to see what difference it makes. I expect it'd be hard to tell with the coconuts, but that it'll add quite a lot of bite to the hit.
How did I not see this earlier! Nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about. Let me point out some of the things I appreciate in your technique: 1. You have good control of both leading with and trailing the tip instead of just twirling. That feel for the tip is what allows you to quickly recover from a swing, work in tight spaces, and swing close to your head with no fear. 2. MLB level batting technique. At first it's really awkward to try batting with a nunchaku. If you watch baseball, you'll notice batters have a rotation they do on striking. Getting this down makes it work. 3. You understand how to hit hard with the short sections on the cord end. With a short stick on it's own, it's hard to strike hard with a swing. With a nunchaku, there's a trick to pulling through the cord to make it way stronger, but it takes some practice. The same movement can be used for both defense and grappling, so it's very versatile. 4. Your 'flashy' stuff isn't flashy. You practice moves not intended to be powerful strikes, but neither are they done for the sake of looking impressive in demos. You do it for developing a sense of connection with the weapon and being able to transition between important moments of a fight. 5. You've tested against realistic targets, found stuff that works, have a wealth of experience, yet you are humble enough to acknowledge it's not the only way. There are so many versions of the nunchaku and just as many ways to use them that there are bound to be multiple good options among the bad ones. Anyone with an ounce of sense has learned something from your video. Thank you.

With two hands you couldn’t possibly retract the nunchuck quick enough. Anyways why hold it with two hands it’s like punching with two hands. Body stuck working together to generate momentum instead of worrying about preparing for the next strike using one hand.
I always seem to practice with the idea of nunchaku being a like a portable Bo staff. Like with a Bo staff I don't hit others with them ever but I see behind every swing you throw is a boxers intent to end the fight. Is the intent the most important part of practice if you are going to spend year in a craft?

Unique and honest demenstration of the art form. Anyone that sais nunchaku is a noncence sport must have gotten the sence knocked out of their head by a set. I prefer the traditional method. However this methodology is worh noting. Very effective wepon. A cop will justifiably shoot you if you use it as an asult wepon. Keep the sticks flying responsably .

When i practice long time ago I have sand bags, rubber bags, plastic bottles of water and a rolled carpet hanging from a strings all over me . Different targets with different weight gives different kind of recoil. And that will teach you to control a weapon fast. You either learn how the weapon behaves or you hurt your self bad. I used heavy hard wood nun chucks when training. After some time anything slightly lighter feels like feather that makes me extremely fast and accurate. Now after Two decades of break from nunchacku probably i would hurt my self few times till I get back to form with that weapon. I would need more time to be proficient with nunchacku then a stick. I used two hand technique but not to such extend as you Sir

That beeing said Shad got two pints right. Parry with nunchacks is difficult, prary with a stick is a lot safer and simpler. They are difficult weapon to master, (being proficient with in a fight situation). Thats why it should be practice with bunch of different moving targets as I wrote in my last comment. @@vanivanov9571 if you have octagonal nunchacku with almast sharp edges made from black locust. Which is harder then oak. An your sticks have almost 4cm or about 1,2 inch in radius on a wider end where one stick is 35 cm long which is about 13,25 inch. If you hit a hard but springy object with the very tip of the nunchaku, full force. The ricochet hurts like hell. My english sucks so i do not have an major injury after this. A a slight contusion yes it was. That stop me from training for a day or two and a bruise as a bonus. I never trained with rubber, plastic or any foam shit. I always trained wit the stuff i used. Heavy octagonal sharp edges almost untempered. I remember the weight of it was bit more then 1KG It was not a toy. Two heavy clubs connected with a string PS.If you are really Ivanov why on earth I tortured my self with converting metric to imperials shit :P
I just want to point out that Shad doesn't say the nunchucks is completely useless, rather it is a bad weapon when comparing it to other weapons when the wielder has a similar experience in both weapons. Ofcourse someone that trained for years with nunchucks is going to be better than most people using another weapon with which they have little to no training (or no weapon at all). As for hitting yourself, this more goes for "inexperienced" users (can take this broadly to those not having more than a few years training) and especially in a combat situation when the opponent can move/act unpredictable.
Hitting yourself with rebound is barely noticeable. It doesn't even leave bruises. Only an idiot would swing the nunchaku into himself, or someone trying a fancy trick.
Sorry but there is no question Shad’s central thesis is the weapon is, “utter garbage,” and a “trash weapon.” It was his choice to make such an extreme judgment with zero practical experience or knowledge, just his theorizing, and that is what annoyed people who know better.

I appreciate the video and the chance to see someone who's practiced a ton with these. However, you also proved Shad correct. You have to use a technique that I've never seen (And I've been privileged to see many people who've "mastered" these weapons) I will also argue that, sure, you are showing the power of the nunchucks. I'd respectfully disagree. Shad's point that he spent 3 entire videos and countless hours ranting on is that chucks are, "utter garbage." Horrendous weapons, so terrible that you'd be better off cutting the string. Countless people who unlike Shad used these in the streets or saw them used by people who know how understand how bad that take is. I've been in martial arts and kobudo for decades. I've seen, "masters' that not only have no practical experience but don't even try to learn any. I once took a class on this weapon from a recognized expert at a seminar (of course I won't say who). You know what he said about hitting? Nothing, not a word. All we did was learn new twirling moves. And I guarantee you the fascinating technique in this video (and Nardz's) aren't the only way to effectively use them in a fight. We have mounds of real life experiences proving that. My response to Shad centers on two things. 1) He can't swing them (love the guy but he can't. Dear God he can't even use them without armor, never struck anything fast/hard), 2) Ignored the known history that this video touches on. It's laughable to claim you've proven your case about a weapon when you don't know how to use it and skipped the history of it, period.

@@ObjectHistory I think Shad hit himself with the nunchucks once and it really hurt, he probably never forgave the nunchuck. But yeah, even some of the lighter trick chucks now could do some serious damage in a fight as they're so fast, you can't see them.
@@counterstrike89 as long as the nunchaku is solid I think they can do some decent amount of damage, of course I’d prefer a nunchaku made of hardwood because it will 100% do more damage, a rattan pair while it is lighter is so fast and hard enough that it would work as a weapon
Thanks for the video and your interesting perspective on this weapon. I just said on another video that we've reached a sad place in society where theatrics mean more than substance, and Shadiversity is nothing if not theatrical. He produces some great content, but wading through the theatrics can be frustrating sometimes. In our clickbait world, titling a video "Nunchucks are trash" gets more attention than titling a video "The comparative strengths and weaknesses of Nunchucks." The former type of video plays to his theatrical nature. The latter type of video would not. I appreciate seeing your two-handed technique. I see the value in having blocking surfaces at ninety-degree angles. I can see to some extent how using both hands could produce more power. One question is whether the nunchucks can really generate more power than a single, straight stick of equal weight, length, and strength. if the nunchucks could really be faster, I can see where they would generate more striking energy through velocity. I'm just not sure whether they can really be faster. Again, I appreciate an intelligent approach to the topic. Your video was interesting.

Kevin Grey, Wushu Engineer, and Weapon Man have already given plenty of material on the topic. You can watch Kevin's nunchaku frame by frame, and it appears to be moving faster, and the pendulum swings with a lot more energy after the hit. When Lester (Wushu) tried out the weapons on coconuts... the nunchaku outperformed a HEAVIER stick of the same total length. And yeah, I lost the stomach for wading through Shad's videos years ago, even before he started attacking youtubers, archers, historians, and small youtubers (or rather, before I realized).
This video shows either ignorance or blatant misunderstanding of what Shad said. Shad does extensive research and than plays around with these ideas for himself. Shad never said an expert would hit themselves all the time. He’s discussing the general overview of a weapon. If you can’t teach a peasant in a day to at least be deadly with a weapon that massssssively decreases its value. That’s his point.
Day is more than enough with nunchaku, boy. Working as a unit is much more difficult. Shady also does not do research (or certainly didn't with nunchaku) and spews his opinions as "facts" and sheeple believe them. Only relevant point is that he was quite wrong about nunchaku and is now about as absolutely wrong about them as man can be about anything.

Stick can break bones. People skilled in CQC can break bones with bare hands. That doesn't make nunchucks a good weapon. If you personally can, say, make a fracture with the nunchaku, then you would be able to shatter the bone with a simple stick.
Are you volunteering your body to work as test bed for various attacks with nunchaku? As you know it to be harmless toy there should be no risk involved to any party. Such experiment would also give conclusive evidence to this argument as well.

@@vksasdgaming9472 first, no one, not me, not Shadiveristy - no one has said that nunchaks are a toy. If you were able to put your aesthetic preferences aside to properly hear the arguments made against nunchaks you would see that the main one is about nunchaks being able to transfer less amount of kinetic energy to the target in the same hands as a stick of the same properties would. That's due to the simple fact that the second the nunchaks hit some amount of kinetic energy will instantly be lost due to the fact that the half that is hitting the target is loose and will bounce. Whereas the stick due to it's structural integrity will transfer much much more of that energy right to the target due to the fact that it's being held firmly by the other end. Yes, some of the energy will still go into the bounce, but it's gonna be much less, because the stick is not loose. You need proof - you open 7th grade physics textbook - you get one.

Two knife-length sticks is practically unarmed as they ain't long enough to be sticks, sharp enough to be knives and certainly not speedy enough to be nunchaku either. Breaking down tested and proven weapon to two useless weapons is not only being unarmed - it is being stupid and unarmed.

Nunchaku is effective weapon which doesn't even demand years of training to deliver good hits to target. Learned by open-minded experimentation and I can prove it. Being armed with useless GARBAGE is worse than being unarmed, kid.
So that double hand attack that you do, you take the nunchucks and turn them into 2 separate sticks. When you hold both ends and strike with both at the same time its as if the rope isn't there. So you could have had 2 different one handed sticks, and been using them independently of each other. I'm pretty sure there are a host of different martial arts devoted to this practice, dual stick fighting. In a way, based on what you just did, to make nunchucks better, you have to pretend for a moment they are not nunchucks.

This video is actually quite hilarious. The ridiculousness of what he’s saying. It almost seems like a parody but it’s definitely not. Completely misunderstood what Shad said. Shad has an extensive understanding of medieval style weapons and does his research. He evaluates weapons as a GENERAL view. If you need years to master a weapon for it to be effective it degrades the value. Several times while you struck the target you could have been stabbed quite easily. Shadiversity in this case is like young earth creationist going to archeology conference (if there are such). Results have proven to be one-sided and hilarious. He clearly does not do any research because he simply ignored things like street toughs who actually used these weapons to beat other street toughs. Or the fact that about hundred police departments in USA use nunchaku in their line of duty. I guess pistol is utterly useless weapon because Jerry Miculek has spent decades trying to master it and still is inferior to things like rifles. Shad has BRAGGED about his lack of education. He clearly never hit a target before the videos, since he was shocked to stillness when he found out you could push with nunchaku. I have a few comments on this: 1. Shad covered the history aspect, he specifically mentioned it started with Bruce Lee, because it underlines the fanciness of it and not being part of a weapon developed for effectiveness throughout the evolution of martial combat. 2. A lot of people get the point of effectiveness wrong. His main point is you can do the same or better with a plain stick. Your style of holding the sticks in two different hands is something he mentioned in particular - Nunchucks would be both more effective without the cord in between and as a stick as long as the Nunchucks unfolded. To prove him wrong you have to take this comparison into account, proving that Nunchucks are more effective than sticks of the same build.
....The history starts with Bruce Lee? Maybe Shad should've gone to college. The nunchaku goes back to Okinawa, and was apparently used in guerrilla warfare against the Chinese and Japanese. They were both so impressed that they adopted the weapon into their cultures. And yes... they did have swords and spears. 2. The plain stick has a heck of a lot more torque. And as demonstrated by Lester (Wushu Engineer), even his unfair comparison of a HEAVIER stick of the same length inflicted a less severe injury in his coconut test, something born out by other tests. So there you go, it's proven. But more than this, you're admitting to how embarrassing Shad was, calling the weapon, "GARBAGE! GARBAGE!!" Screaming while beating up a dummy, and making comedy skits about how you're better with no weapon at all.... It's so humiliating, you have to pretend the argument was only that a stick is somewhat better... not that he called the weapon garbage. The fact the data shows nunchaku are more effective makes his cries of, "GARBAGE," all the more stupid.

@@PunchProfessor Again, you're still not getting the point. Sure, you might be able to maybe fracture someone's smallest and weakest bone, if you hit them into a particularly vulnerable spot. Meanwhile a solid hardwood stick that is same length as a fully extended nunchaku will far more easily break even the bigger and stronger bones. It is simple physics that just seems to go over your head. A nunchaku will impact with about the same speed, but with only a tiny fraction of the weight behind the strike, because the string prevents you from transfering your own body momentum to the striking end.
@@Eternalnight198 I always assumed that Nunchucks were just a more portable stick. It'll give you all the length of a stick without having to carry around something as long as the extended nunchucks, kind of like an old timey retractable baton. Besides, if it's good enough to beat someone up and put em in the hospital, who cares objectively how many bones it can break?

The reason Shad calls nunchucks garbage is because it takes much more effort to make & master the nunchucks compared to a stick which performs about the same in the hands of a master & if a weapon is comparable to a stick then it says a lot about if it is a good weapon or not.
Making them can be chore, but certainly less than making a sword or knife or spear. Learning to use them does not take that long and mastering something takes about as long everywhere. He calls them garbage because of irrational hatred.
What VK said. You can learn nunchaku inside of a week... it's pathetic how people keep resorting to this absurd myth. Seriously, the agricultural flail was used by 90% of the population since time immemorial... so how can people assume flails are THAT hard to learn?

@@vanivanov9571 While nunchucks are derived from the Agriculture flail, it isn't one. I would argue agriculture flail is actually a way better weapon compared to the nunchucks. It has a longer handle which raises its power drastically & there is a guarantee that u won't get hit back by it. Also while we are talking about myths, there isn't any solid proof that nunchucks were actually a thing even as an Agriculture tool.
@@tanzolimbu2982 Nunchaku certainly came from somewhere. Flail and horse bit are both plausible sources. I disagree on spear being king of weapons as that title belongs to sword. Only tip of spear (basically) is dangerous while all of sword is dangerous.
This is the first time i have ever seen nunchuks used and held like this. The power you generate with the 2 hand method and experience you have makes alot of sense. Its really cool and definitely makes me rethink alot of things. Thank you for your video.

This is a really eye opening video for me. Most people just focus on doing juggling tricks with nunchucks, and not how to actually fight with them. Those two handed blocks you were doing made a lot of movements from kobudo forms make sense in a way I had never considered.

Milani has 10 subscribers... and Shad has a history of picking on smaller youtubers. He even made a gangster-like comment, saying, "it'd be a pity if you got dogpiled by my many fans...."

He answered Milani Fitness because that was the best video in his opinion, covering most points of all responses, and his intention clearly is to avoid a young RUclips channel being overflown with bullshit spam, which happened in the past because other RUclipsrs never respected this impact of different subscriber counts.
I agree that I would love to see Ramsey throwing into the mix, mostly because Shad and Ramsey are alike when it comes to analysis and direct approach, but it might not be Ramsey's expertise (at least I never saw him dealing with Nunchucks, maybe I'm wrong) and that would ruin the point of the discussion. We don't need another voice of "Yes, Nunchucks can break bones" while the main topic of "Are sticks better than Nunchucks?" is still not scratched. For the record: Sticks absolutely can break bones too.

I believe artistic license is at play, but it certainly hurt him. Even without finishing blow with his sword Goliath would've been out of use for Philistines permanently as badly fractured skull and medical technology of era could not have saved him.

This video is amazing! I've been doing double hand swings with Nunchucks for about 15 years now and I can see how much damage you put out on those speedbags! I definitely did learn some things from this video and I thank you for that. Awesome video, I especially love that you have been training the weapon for so long yet felt no need to showcase it until now. Look like it is true,the best way to recieve a straight and complete answer on the internet is to say something wrong. I once considered nunchuck a bad weapon,also because i couldn't find anyone using them properly,not anymore,and since Shad posted his videos,many youtubers posted complex and complete answers to the effectiveness of nunchucks. Looks like another wave in the fantasy media generated by Shad will be a more prominent role of nunchaku.

Uh... wow! This is the first time I've seen nunchaku used this way. It looks more secure that way and yeah, it does address the issue of control. Great control on those multiple targets by the way. Holding one end with both hands that way kinda turns them into flail.
Question: Where did this style of using these nunchaku develop? Is it a self-taught style gained from experience or were there multiple people using similar techniques at the time when Bruce Lee popularized them?
Also, can you show some more offensive techniques holding both sticks with 2 hands?

To answer your question = I used a trial and error, in order to develop much of the techniques in this video. I wanted heavy, and hard Nunchucks so they would issue greater devastation to an adversary ...
Not being a big guy 145 lbs. = I began the 2 handed strikes to compensate for the heavy chucks ...
So that a rebound would not BOP me, I learned with my two handed grip that I would let one hand touch the rope after the strike, which put a quick end to that stick going where it wants .
I.E. that stick go's where my hand on that rope wants it to go ! Over the years I hit myself countless times. Except for the time I hit my self in the Balls in front of my mother who laughed her ass off, I never really hurt myself. Just bops and Bumps. Now after many years I almost never bump myself.
I made a Nunchuck video yesterday, but not sure that I will make any more.

That was fantastic! Super unorthodox but amazing. One of the problems I have found is people call nunchaku stupid based on watching someone who doesn’t know how to use them.
Most of the time you see someone who has learned it from watching movies or from a martial artist who learned it from watching movies in the 80s who tried to draw more customers by starting Chuck classes.
But even though this is totally unorthodox and unlike the traditional and practical ways of using nunchaku I’ve encountered, it conforms to everything positive I have learned about them in my 15 years of practice.
I’ll definitely be incorporating some of this into my own training.

Great Video brother. I been practicing martial arts for over 20 years. With weaponry being part of the learning. I know how to use many, but the 2 sticks are definately my favourite! Can they break bones? Of course, especially collar bones and eye sockets. At 25pouns of pressure per square inch. Their a great training tool for the core. And can be used in Many ways for self defence. The only people that will speak against them, will be the ones that don't know how to use them. Peace

Im glad to see that im not the only who trains with nunchucks this way. The deflecting and blocks always felt like wing blocks in kali. And the hooking Perry felt like something that one could do with a sarong. The ol saying in kali " kali lik kao" (sorry if that is spelt that wrong) but in english " you are kali!" Resinated with me because in way it felt like permission to be playful.

1 Year later this video has made the nunchak into one of my favourite wepons. It is a very fun and creative weapon. Good in close and mid long fighting. The weapon for a trickster and artist because there is so many ways to use it

Nunchucks are very similar to hitting someone with a hardwood stick of a similar size, but with more portability because it's folded in half. No one questions if a thick hardwood stick can hurt you and a set of nunchucks is essentially same thing. I agree they can hurt you pretty bad. It doesn't take a genius to understand that. I don't understand why people think they are useless.

No, that is completely wrong. Hitting someone with a nunchaku is not at all anything like hitting them with straight hardwood stick.
When you hit someone with a nunchaku you're only hitting them with the weight of one half of the nunchaku and nothing else.
When you hit someone with a rigid stick, you're hitting them with a lot more, because it is not just the weight of the stick but you can actually put a lot of your own body weight behind the strike.
So a rigid stick will hit with about SAME SPEED, but with more than 100 times weight behind the strike.
And, yes, it is the same speed. Even though the other end of the nunchaku can momentarily move at higher speeds than a straight stick, it only does that when you're changing the direction of the movement. It does not add any extra speed to it when you're actually hitting someone with it.
Getting hit by a nunchaku can hurt a lot, but it does not do any real damage. A rigid straight stick is far more effective in doing actual damage like breaking bones etc. and is actually a lot more versatile in other ways.
Nunchakus are garbage. Not completely useless, but almost.

It really depends on the bones you're talking about breaking, a femur? Probably not. Hands? Definatly. Hand bones can be broken by simple punches, sticks and nunchucks offer more leverage. Wrists and forearms? Maybe... wrists are particularly weak and people break or fracture their forearms from arm wrestling and falling over on them.
Sure a straight stick is more damaging, you're trading strength for portability with a nunchuck. I'm not arguing with you on that one, but a sharp knife is more dangerous than a dull knife with a rounded point, but the dull knife can still hurt and kill.
It's ridiculous to think a nunchuck is completely useless, they can seriously hurt you. Hitting anyone with a blunt object is dangerous and potentially deadly.
Blunt force trauma is no joke.
@@maxgilbert18 This is completely laughable... The children are learning physics from SHAD instead of school? Is he really so stupid he thinks only HALF the mass of the weapon applies with nunchaku? It seems the better the response video and demonstration is, the worse the tantrum of Shady-fans.
Though, if you haven't already, check out Kevin Gray's video. He visually demonstrates that nunchaku inflict a lot more impulse than a plain stick, in a test. Physically, they have to... they have the same mass but have a longer swing arc than the stick, so of course nunchaku will have more energy. Shad brags about how he never went to college for got a formal education, and I can see why.
@@Eternalnight198 You can't support the stick with much weight because your wrist can't hold it. Do a simple excercise. Grab this 50-60cm stick like you would for a combat and press the scale with the end of it. And now wonder how much force can generate the swing and the rethink if you can add to this force anything more from your weight:)

I appreciate nunchucks now. Any reccomendations on where to buy some good ones? I see the point now. It's a stick that you can bend in half and you don't need your own muscle really to bring it back and be ready to hit again. And the twirly motions act like shadowboxing your way to your opponent to hide the strike and confuse them. I need to get me some of these.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT in my video response to Shad, except this guy has first-hand experience and I was reporting. There is no substitute for real combat experience with a weapon, no arm chair namby pamby theorizing can change that. We don’t have to wonder if chucks are garbage, we know for a fact THEY’RE NOT if we know the real history of the weapon. 1970’s, 1980’s, in the streets. NY, Miami, all the big cities. I KNEW THERE WERE DUDES LIKE THIS that know first hand how horrifically bad Shad’s take is on this weapon, knew it for a fact but just don’t know this man myself.
So glad an old school martial artist set the record straight. In a fair world there would be no more argument and everyone, Shad included would listen to warriors who know better on these things. All I ever argued against was Shad’s 3 video uninformed rant, backed up by chuck swinging that looks like a drunk with a blindfold (if you can’t actually swing the weapon, you can’t judge it) because actual experience says the opposite.
Are they better than a straight stick? Maybe, maybe not... but Shad told over a million people this weapon is absolutely horrible without researching the known history of the tool at all, or learning how to swing it competently which should take a martial artist an hour (?) if he consults with someone that knows.

Wait so we can agree that chucks are dangerous in the hands of a master right? What about a random guy with no experience? If your home was being robbed and you had no chuck experience would you grab a stick or chucks? There is a reason why a pointy stick (spear) is one of the oldest and most effective weapons for noobs.

Here's what takes years to master, to learn to twirl it around your body at high rates of speed, switching from one to the other without looking, etc. Anyone who has learned to twirl the chucks bonks their head and all that in the quest to learn those things. To learn to competently use this fighting flail is a different story. Simple, direct, effective- you can get their quickly. It's just that everyone thinks of the former as being part of learning to fight with the weapon when the two things have nothing to do with each other. Just my thoughts.

As a beginner DO NOT be concerned about going FAST or being POWERFUL, but rather look to be PERFECT in the mechanics of your body (Bio Mechanics) !
If your mechanics are good then Power & Speed will come.
Learn the basics, and make effort to perfect them !
We never ever do perfect the mechanics, but that is the target that we never reach PERFECTLY !
I spent more than 50 years looking to perfect my skills, and although I'm EXCELLENT, I am far from PERFECT.
So I will in todays practice, seek perfection AGAIN !
In a nutshell = go slower, and pay GREAT ATTENTION to what you are doing !
By going SLOW or moving in a SLOW MOTION, it will be much easier to notice what you are doing, whether it's right or wrong.
Shadow box often ~ in front of a mirror when you can ~ Study your body much like a body builder does. Throw punches slowly and notice what muscles, tendons, joints, bones (Bio Mechanics) are involved, and which ones are not involved.
Another tip be carful in sparring!
You should not be getting beat up in sparring. So don't spar till you have a good handle on the INPORTANT basics.
Don't spar with people who want to use you as a punching bag.

The only issue i have with your style is the control, if you train hitting a solid object ( i trained with a tree) it will bounce back and hit you. This would be very very difficult with your two hands technic to master. otherwise great vid.
Awesome..I like your two handed transitions and striking with the head of both handles, that’s actually a form of striking close quarters that follows up to a grab as one would need to stun before attempting a grab.. your two handed transitions are also breaks or dislocations after you have a limb wrapped up. Just discovered your channel today and subscribed. I like the way you are using both hands. The closest that I have seen to this is a demonstration by Fumio Demura in the Warrior Within. I just saw my old 14 inch nunchakus in my barn and was thinking I should pull them out and practice if for no other reason than hand eye coordination. The song and reference to everyone carrying nunchakus brought back a lot of good memories. Back in the day we all made our own. I'm curious about the logo on your shirt. Wondering if you are familiar with the falling step that Jack Dempsey used. If you are familiar I hope that you can post an instructional video about it. Also have wondered if the hand hits the target before the foot lands, the same time the foot lands, or after the foot lands. I believe before. I have asked others on you tube but have never gotten an answer. Keep up the great work.

Great video. Thanks to Nardz video ( /watch?v=EsW6GkmHaY0 ) for pointing out this and other great videos. I can't think of anyone who uses your style. The nunchaku is known as a reach weapon, and two hands does reduce your reach in two ways, but your style trades that for some amazing power and control. I had only put a little thought into using them two-handed... but now I can definitely say I will transition to two hands for a strike when I can.

Nunchaku are ILLEGAL most everywhere... but if some fool pulls some out on me- and they're at least 6-7 feet away-- I'll pull something that goes a LOT faster-- abotu 1,250 ft. per second faster!!! (.45 auto).. I also carry a hickory cane and can easily handle multiple attackers with it--- including nunchaku carrying ones- and HAVE. I have high ranking black bellts in 5 arts- including Hapkido (cane, chuks, tonfa and more), Kenpo (sticks, arnis/cali style and more), wing chun, jeet kune do ,and aikido. (most pretty much useless on the streets..) but I'm also retired fed bodyguard and ex ranger...with 40+ years experience.. With over 1000 transactions ( I call encounters/fights) transactions because someone ALWAYS pays for them one way or the other).. I have ONLY 2 losses.. so I think I know what I'm doing. (been in jungles, in gnagland LA- and bars, you name it).. YOU are RIGHT- chuks can easily break bones-- and that's why they are HIGHLY ILLEGAL in MOST states now!!! My CANE (which is even MORE deadly (due to extended reach and movement).. is legal EVERYWHERE.. and IT"S ALWAYS in my hand- I don't have to "unconceal it" as the gun guys do... OH- and YES- ONE HIT AND QUIT--- for the ATTACKER - not YOU!!

Hey long time no see huh Punch Professor, but indeed good things come to those who wait, your technique makes sense you definitely have more control two handed, however don't you think you would generate more speed one handed, I know I generate alot more speed hitting a baseball holding the bat one handed than I do two handed. I apologise if it seems like Im trying to question your technique, Im not. Its just another way of approaching the dynamics of a swing, like the cliche that says he who laughs last, laughs best, which sometimes is true, but sometimes the person who laughs last just thinks the slowest( haa haa). So I guess Im really asking if a one handed strike in your oppininon might move faster, wow you see that Punch Professor you got the kid thinking about combat scientifically now!!! I use two hands with a bat or an Ax . My Chucks are heavy and I like them heavy but a one handed swing is a disadvantage...

The nunchuck is usually hold with one hand when striking but with gripping its hold with 2 around the shoulders or doing the passes. I like to train in the nunchuck since my back ground is Taekwondo and Karate.

@@weaponman3872 When you get the clay blocks, you can try out a two-handed strike with the nunchaku, to see what difference it makes. I expect it'd be hard to tell with the coconuts, but that it'll add quite a lot of bite to the hit.
How did I not see this earlier! Nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about. Let me point out some of the things I appreciate in your technique:
1. You have good control of both leading with and trailing the tip instead of just twirling. That feel for the tip is what allows you to quickly recover from a swing, work in tight spaces, and swing close to your head with no fear.
2. MLB level batting technique. At first it's really awkward to try batting with a nunchaku. If you watch baseball, you'll notice batters have a rotation they do on striking. Getting this down makes it work.
3. You understand how to hit hard with the short sections on the cord end. With a short stick on it's own, it's hard to strike hard with a swing. With a nunchaku, there's a trick to pulling through the cord to make it way stronger, but it takes some practice. The same movement can be used for both defense and grappling, so it's very versatile.
4. Your 'flashy' stuff isn't flashy. You practice moves not intended to be powerful strikes, but neither are they done for the sake of looking impressive in demos. You do it for developing a sense of connection with the weapon and being able to transition between important moments of a fight.
5. You've tested against realistic targets, found stuff that works, have a wealth of experience, yet you are humble enough to acknowledge it's not the only way. There are so many versions of the nunchaku and just as many ways to use them that there are bound to be multiple good options among the bad ones. Anyone with an ounce of sense has learned something from your video. Thank you.

With two hands you couldn’t possibly retract the nunchuck quick enough. Anyways why hold it with two hands it’s like punching with two hands. Body stuck working together to generate momentum instead of worrying about preparing for the next strike using one hand.
I always seem to practice with the idea of nunchaku being a like a portable Bo staff. Like with a Bo staff I don't hit others with them ever but I see behind every swing you throw is a boxers intent to end the fight. Is the intent the most important part of practice if you are going to spend year in a craft?

Unique and honest demenstration of the art form. Anyone that sais nunchaku is a noncence sport must have gotten the sence knocked out of their head by a set. I prefer the traditional method. However this methodology is worh noting.

There is a lot more to fighting than power. In my time a few times guys tried to wack me with a bat. I don't stand still even today at almost 70 yrs old. Shad and his Big Pal would never land that stick on me. Only my Opinion . Maybe I'm wrong?
For me the Nunchuck is a bad ass weapon.
For most folks who practice only TWIRLING & SPINNING , but neglect COMBAT PRACTICE, would be better off with a stick. Then there are people who should lock themselves in the house, and hide under the bed!
Shad's first video was about 19 min, and the 2nd was close to 40 min.
Perhaps you can take an hour out of your day, and go and watch them videos again.

When i practice long time ago I have sand bags, rubber bags, plastic bottles of water and a rolled carpet hanging from a strings all over me . Different targets with different weight gives different kind of recoil. And that will teach you to control a weapon fast. You either learn how the weapon behaves or you hurt your self bad. I used heavy hard wood nun chucks when training. After some time anything slightly lighter feels like feather that makes me extremely fast and accurate. Now after Two decades of break from nunchacku probably i would hurt my self few times till I get back to form with that weapon. I would need more time to be proficient with nunchacku then a stick. I used two hand technique but not to such extend as you Sir

That beeing said Shad got two pints right. Parry with nunchacks is difficult, prary with a stick is a lot safer and simpler.
They are difficult weapon to master, (being proficient with in a fight situation).
Thats why it should be practice with bunch of different moving targets as I wrote in my last comment.
What can I say more i really like the weapon. Is it the best male weapon on the face of the earth absolutely not. Is it shitty hell no!
Every weapon on earth has its limitation. Stick , sword, gun etc.. Nunchacks are fast, easy to concealed, they are powerful striking weapon.

@@vanivanov9571 if you have octagonal nunchacku with almast sharp edges made from black locust. Which is harder then oak. An your sticks have almost 4cm or about 1,2 inch in radius on a wider end where one stick is 35 cm long which is about 13,25 inch. If you hit a hard but springy object with the very tip of the nunchaku, full force. The ricochet hurts like hell. My english sucks so i do not have an major injury after this. A a slight contusion yes it was. That stop me from training for a day or two and a bruise as a bonus.
I never trained with rubber, plastic or any foam shit. I always trained wit the stuff i used. Heavy octagonal sharp edges almost untempered. I remember the weight of it was bit more then 1KG

I just want to point out that Shad doesn't say the nunchucks is completely useless, rather it is a bad weapon when comparing it to other weapons when the wielder has a similar experience in both weapons. Ofcourse someone that trained for years with nunchucks is going to be better than most people using another weapon with which they have little to no training (or no weapon at all).
As for hitting yourself, this more goes for "inexperienced" users (can take this broadly to those not having more than a few years training) and especially in a combat situation when the opponent can move/act unpredictable.
Hitting yourself with rebound is barely noticeable. It doesn't even leave bruises. Only an idiot would swing the nunchaku into himself, or someone trying a fancy trick.
Sorry but there is no question Shad’s central thesis is the weapon is, “utter garbage,” and a “trash weapon.” It was his choice to make such an extreme judgment with zero practical experience or knowledge, just his theorizing, and that is what annoyed people who know better.

However, you also proved Shad correct. You have to use a technique that I've never seen (And I've been privileged to see many people who've "mastered" these weapons)
I will also argue that, sure, you are showing the power of the nunchucks. But show us you striking with full strength, with a stick. That was shad's point
I'd respectfully disagree. Shad's point that he spent 3 entire videos and countless hours ranting on is that chucks are, "utter garbage." Horrendous weapons, so terrible that you'd be better off cutting the string. Countless people who unlike Shad used these in the streets or saw them used by people who know how understand how bad that take is. I've been in martial arts and kobudo for decades. I've seen, "masters' that not only have no practical experience but don't even try to learn any. I once took a class on this weapon from a recognized expert at a seminar (of course I won't say who). You know what he said about hitting? Nothing, not a word. All we did was learn new twirling moves. And I guarantee you the fascinating technique in this video (and Nardz's) aren't the only way to effectively use them in a fight. We have mounds of real life experiences proving that. My response to Shad centers on two things. 1) He can't swing them (love the guy but he can't. Dear God he can't even use them without armor, never struck anything fast/hard), 2) Ignored the known history that this video touches on. It's laughable to claim you've proven your case about a weapon when you don't know how to use it and skipped the history of it, period.

@@ObjectHistory I think Shad hit himself with the nunchucks once and it really hurt, he probably never forgave the nunchuck. But yeah, even some of the lighter trick chucks now could do some serious damage in a fight as they're so fast, you can't see them.
@@counterstrike89 as long as the nunchaku is solid I think they can do some decent amount of damage, of course I’d prefer a nunchaku made of hardwood because it will 100% do more damage, a rattan pair while it is lighter is so fast and hard enough that it would work as a weapon

I just said on another video that we've reached a sad place in society where theatrics mean more than substance, and Shadiversity is nothing if not theatrical. He produces some great content, but wading through the theatrics can be frustrating sometimes. In our clickbait world, titling a video "Nunchucks are trash" gets more attention than titling a video "The comparative strengths and weaknesses of Nunchucks." The former type of video plays to his theatrical nature. The latter type of video would not.
I appreciate seeing your two-handed technique. I see the value in having blocking surfaces at ninety-degree angles. I can see to some extent how using both hands could produce more power.
One question is whether the nunchucks can really generate more power than a single, straight stick of equal weight, length, and strength. if the nunchucks could really be faster, I can see where they would generate more striking energy through velocity. I'm just not sure whether they can really be faster.
Again, I appreciate an intelligent approach to the topic. Your video was interesting.
If someone is theatrical and right it is better than being just right. If someone is theatrical and wrong it is worse than being wrong. Shady is in latter group in this case.

Kevin Grey, Wushu Engineer, and Weapon Man have already given plenty of material on the topic. You can watch Kevin's nunchaku frame by frame, and it appears to be moving faster, and the pendulum swings with a lot more energy after the hit. When Lester (Wushu) tried out the weapons on coconuts... the nunchaku outperformed a HEAVIER stick of the same total length.
And yeah, I lost the stomach for wading through Shad's videos years ago, even before he started attacking youtubers, archers, historians, and small youtubers (or rather, before I realized).

This video shows either ignorance or blatant misunderstanding of what Shad said. Shad does extensive research and than plays around with these ideas for himself.
Shad never said an expert would hit themselves all the time. He’s discussing the general overview of a weapon. If you can’t teach a peasant in a day to at least be deadly with a weapon that massssssively decreases its value. That’s his point.
Day is more than enough with nunchaku, boy. Working as a unit is much more difficult. Shady also does not do research (or certainly didn't with nunchaku) and spews his opinions as "facts" and sheeple believe them. Only relevant point is that he was quite wrong about nunchaku and is now about as absolutely wrong about them as man can be about anything.
I see the first lie rang hollow, so you commented against with basically the same tripe. No, Shady called nunchaku garbage many times, just that his blather is so pointless it's easy to interpret many meanings from it. Stick can break bones. People skilled in CQC can break bones with bare hands. That doesn't make nunchucks a good weapon. If you personally can, say, make a fracture with the nunchaku, then you would be able to shatter the bone with a simple stick.
Are you volunteering your body to work as test bed for various attacks with nunchaku? As you know it to be harmless toy there should be no risk involved to any party. Such experiment would also give conclusive evidence to this argument as well.

If you were able to put your aesthetic preferences aside to properly hear the arguments made against nunchaks you would see that the main one is about nunchaks being able to transfer less amount of kinetic energy to the target in the same hands as a stick of the same properties would. That's due to the simple fact that the second the nunchaks hit some amount of kinetic energy will instantly be lost due to the fact that the half that is hitting the target is loose and will bounce. Whereas the stick due to it's structural integrity will transfer much much more of that energy right to the target due to the fact that it's being held firmly by the other end. Yes, some of the energy will still go into the bounce, but it's gonna be much less, because the stick is not loose.
You need proof - you open 7th grade physics textbook - you get one.

Completely misunderstood what Shad said. Shad has an extensive understanding of medieval style weapons and does his research. He evaluates weapons as a GENERAL view. If you need years to master a weapon for it to be effective it degrades the value.

Shad has BRAGGED about his lack of education. He clearly never hit a target before the videos, since he was shocked to stillness when he found out you could push with nunchaku. Anyone who is impressed by Shady's level of research is a VERY unimpressive individual. Like the Math Major who couldn't do basic math, whom I met before....

I have a few comments on this:
1. Shad covered the history aspect, he specifically mentioned it started with Bruce Lee, because it underlines the fanciness of it and not being part of a weapon developed for effectiveness throughout the evolution of martial combat.
2. A lot of people get the point of effectiveness wrong. His main point is you can do the same or better with a plain stick. Your style of holding the sticks in two different hands is something he mentioned in particular - Nunchucks would be both more effective without the cord in between and as a stick as long as the Nunchucks unfolded. To prove him wrong you have to take this comparison into account, proving that Nunchucks are more effective than sticks of the same build.
....The history starts with Bruce Lee? Maybe Shad should've gone to college. The nunchaku goes back to Okinawa, and was apparently used in guerrilla warfare against the Chinese and Japanese. They were both so impressed that they adopted the weapon into their cultures. And yes... they did have swords and spears.
2. The plain stick has a heck of a lot more torque. And as demonstrated by Lester (Wushu Engineer), even his unfair comparison of a HEAVIER stick of the same length inflicted a less severe injury in his coconut test, something born out by other tests. So there you go, it's proven.
But more than this, you're admitting to how embarrassing Shad was, calling the weapon, "GARBAGE! GARBAGE!!" Screaming while beating up a dummy, and making comedy skits about how you're better with no weapon at all....
It's so humiliating, you have to pretend the argument was only that a stick is somewhat better... not that he called the weapon garbage. The fact the data shows nunchaku are more effective makes his cries of, "GARBAGE," all the more stupid.

Please give me your sources of Nunchucks being so impressive that they were adopted into Japanese and Chinese culture, and please share in which wars they were used.
I don't know what a "Wushu Engineer" is supposed to be, but again feel free to share the link. As a stick is more than capable to critically injure or kill a person it is probably not reason enough to consider Nunchucks more viable than sticks, but it is a factor nonetheless.

OK, so you really don't know anything about nunchaku... were you HONESTLY so stupid you think they were invented in Bruce Lee's day? The earliest known nunchaku were found in Okinawa.... and if you knew even a little bit, it would be that Japan and China both have nunchaku in their martial cultures. And both cultures did occupy Okinawa at points... so the tradition is supported by the evidence.
I see you're desperately trying to move the goal posts, hilariously trying to use the argument of war. I just gave you a case of them being used for guerrilla warfare, going against the Chinese soldiers and Samurai, likely very similar to the stuff Professor Punch told you about in relation to his street survival. Nunchaku have also been praised by the police, in official studies (not backyard whining).
Now, Hypocrite, tell me about a war where "sticks", specifically batons or even staffs, were used. They're not even common in guerrilla warfare... you might be able to find some criminal case with billy clubs, maybe. The police actually get certifications to use nunchaku, in Texas, California, and more... so it's clear batons are not superior. I disagree with Shad throwing the Nunchakus on the ground because I am aware what the gesture means in East Asian culture.
I also understand how he uses the word garbage, not in the sense of being useless (he pointed that out dozens of times) but as being ineffective compared to other weapons. But I personally wouldn't use the word like that.
All I did was setting some things straight, with failed effort because I now realize how stubborn people can be. At least that shows how well Shad could get his points across, he only couldn't reach those which are really oblivious to any reasoning. Thanks for making that clear to me.

@@PunchProfessor Again, you're still not getting the point. Sure, you might be able to maybe fracture someone's smallest and weakest bone, if you hit them into a particularly vulnerable spot. Meanwhile a solid hardwood stick that is same length as a fully extended nunchaku will far more easily break even the bigger and stronger bones.
It is simple physics that just seems to go over your head. A nunchaku will impact with about the same speed, but with only a tiny fraction of the weight behind the strike, because the string prevents you from transfering your own body momentum to the striking end.
@@Eternalnight198 I always assumed that Nunchucks were just a more portable stick. It'll give you all the length of a stick without having to carry around something as long as the extended nunchucks, kind of like an old timey retractable baton. Besides, if it's good enough to beat someone up and put em in the hospital, who cares objectively how many bones it can break?
I almost turned this off at the beginning. I really didn't appreciate how it came across, like it was personal attack on you and younwere reacting to Shad's videos. However, I watched to the end. I like your wrap-up that showed respect for him. I think that's a better way to do it. After all, if he hadn't made those videos, younwouldn't have made thisnone and you wouldn't be getting that extra RUclips money from increasrd viewership. You should thank Shad as much as you thank Dewey, IMO.
As for your perspective on the topic, I am not convinced you're right. I respect your stories about using them, and I don't doubt your experience at all. However, your experience stands only as an alternative point of view. Maybe I am getting old and losing it, but I don't think you addessed any of Shad's points about the weaknesses of nunchuks. (He made several points and filmed demonstrations.) I think you'd be in a stronger position if you made another video and gave your narrative first (those great stories) and then counteref each of Shad's points in turn. He put a lot of thought and effort into his argument, and I can't dismiss it without equally as thoughtful rebuttal.
Anyway, I appreciate your candor and attitide in your videos. Thanks for reading this.

The reason Shad calls nunchucks garbage is because it takes much more effort to make & master the nunchucks compared to a stick which performs about the same in the hands of a master & if a weapon is comparable to a stick then it says a lot about if it is a good weapon or not.
Making them can be chore, but certainly less than making a sword or knife or spear. Learning to use them does not take that long and mastering something takes about as long everywhere. He calls them garbage because of irrational hatred.
What VK said. You can learn nunchaku inside of a week... it's pathetic how people keep resorting to this absurd myth. Seriously, the agricultural flail was used by 90% of the population since time immemorial... so how can people assume flails are THAT hard to learn?
@@vksasdgaming9472 Sword & knife I agree but u can get a long stick & either sharpen it or break the tip in an angle & use it as a spear. Sure it wont go through armor but It'll go through most clothing & there is a reason the spear known as the king of melee weapons.

@@vanivanov9571 While nunchucks are derived from the Agriculture flail, it isn't one. I would argue agriculture flail is actually a way better weapon compared to the nunchucks. It has a longer handle which raises its power drastically & there is a guarantee that u won't get hit back by it.
Also while we are talking about myths, there isn't any solid proof that nunchucks were actually a thing even as an Agriculture tool.
@@tanzolimbu2982 Nunchaku certainly came from somewhere. Flail and horse bit are both plausible sources. I disagree on spear being king of weapons as that title belongs to sword. Only tip of spear (basically) is dangerous while all of sword is dangerous.
