    HDRadio was created by Ibiquity digital and used to stand for Hybrid Digital. It doesn’t mean anything anymore and unfortunately is not as well supported as I had hoped it would be. I LOVE my HDRadio and will continue to support it. I live in the Nations Capital and almost all FM stations here broadcast HDRadio.

    You go to other areas (*especially no urban areas*) and you may not find too many HDRadio signals. Also the digital signal does not travel as far as the analog signal due to restrictions on how much output they are allowed to have for the digital signal. It has been increased recently, but it still does not have the same output power as the analog broadcast because of possible issues with interference.

    Hi Steven. I would like to add you can turn the tuning knob 1 notch for the next HD selection and you can also turn on the radio and select on the center display if the vehicle is equipped.

    I have owned an after market JVC HD radio in my car since 2008 and loved the sub-stations. I'm surprised not all cars have it installed on their factory radios. Its a free signal, and offers great additional mostly commercial free channels at no cost. I find most AM stations have FM HD channels on their stations. Luckily here in SFL we have an all 80s station on 97.3-2. As most markets the stations change from time to time and so does the HD channels. I can see more of these iheart stations broadcast their exclusive genre stations on HD radio in the future, its just a matter of time before that is the norm.

    Digital TV works fundamentally differently to HD Radio. A TV station could only broadcast their digital signal on their former analog channel after they had shut their analog transmitter down once they joined in the nationwide switch to digital TV on Friday, June 12, 2009. In the beginning of DTV, TV stations had to operate on a completely separate physical channel from their then existing analog TV channel whereupon they could map their virtual channel to a number matching that of their analog TV channel. IBOC for TV was a distant afterthought when DTV was being developed back in the 1990s hence why if your DTV signal disappears, there is no analog TV fallback. However, as you are demonstrating here, HD Radio does have an analog fallback through IBOC, allowing the digital stream to be broadcast using the same carrier as the analog station so that if the digital signal drops, you can still tune in the attenuated analog AM/FM station.

      thank you for the clarification. i was just trying to refrence the correlation to something someone might know. the fact that there are several channels on the same "channel". Part of my channel is to try to show things in a way people can easily understand even if there are underlying differences like in this case. Like the alot of the safety systems work fundamentally the same but have changed over the years. the way the average person looks at them or understands them and their use is the most important to me.

    Got a question for you...would you advise us to change/upgrade the factory headlights to LED bulbs? I have seen a few videos where the driver changes the driving and high beams to LED but leaves the low beams as is.

    Thanks so much! I was specifically looking for someone to explain why there was a pre-set station that had a 3 after it. One thing I can’t seem to figure out is, once I find a station on a 2 or 3, it doesn’t seem to allow me to set that station by holding the button. Am I missing something? Mine is a 2020 Honda CRV but your demo explains these HD stations well. I just wish I could figure out why it’s not allowing me to set the station. Thanks!

    This is not really that new. It's called an radio data system or RDS for short. It works on the FM carrier signal but may be more advanced now with the extra HD channels that exist over the years. It's a digital signal so data transmission is easy to deliver to the radio. You can find the print on some radio bezels in vehicles for the last 25 years have had it on certain after market radios. Some displays where much simpler in the early days of the RDS system and just gave station information like the song a artist with striation call letters. Some did actually work with GPS navigation systems for traffic reports/weather and still do.

    Hi Steve. Question. How do I prevent my texts from being seen on my RAV4 screen? Is there a way to hide them in case we dont want everyone seeing them in the car?

    • @stevenwelchtoyota
      @stevenwelchtoyota  3 года назад +1

      Yes go into your iPhone settings screen. Select Bluetooth, click the (i) on the right of the connected one to your car and uncheck the show notifications tab.

    What if you don’t have a touch screen?

    • @honestaquarian
      @honestaquarian 11 месяцев назад +1

      You don't need to have a touch screen for HDRadio. That just happens to be the case in the vehicle he was in for this video. I have a 30 year old car and I purchased a Pioneer single din size radio from Amazon and had it installed. I did my research (*meaning I READ UP on it*) because I had to have my HDRadio, as well as a CD player. I also wanted Sirius/XM capability. Because it is a single din size head unit, there is no touch screen. I still get the program and music descriptions that scroll across the screen. No weather reports of course. How that all works depends on what radio you have and how it is designed of course.

    Does anyone know if they make signal boosters that work with HD radio? Some stations for me the extra stations go on and off. Local stations played fine but distant ones are a problem.

    • @jnc121978

      Unfortunately the range is limited for HD since its digital, when I drive about 30 miles away from my area the HD channels drops signal.

  • @sjokomelk
    @sjokomelk 2 года назад

    HD here is not "High definition", but "Hybrid Digital". The subchannels have much lower bitrate, and worse sound quality than a normal FM station.

    • @jnc121978
      @jnc121978 Год назад

      That is a good point, I have noticed some HD stations do sound very hollow and not a rich sound, some actually sound really good.
