  • * UPDATE ON THIS INCIDENT BELOW** PLEASE READ
At 03:10AM Allentown transmitted box 2327 for 918 Green Street for a house fire assigning Engines 9, 4, 6, 10 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2 and Battalion 43 (Atiyeh). Enroute to the box, comm center advised that police were on scene and reporting an explosion on North Fountain Street in the 700 block.
Battalion 43 arrived and signaled a working fire and struck out the 2nd alarm bringing in Engine 13, 14, Air 1. The chief found the front of the house in the street. Heavy fire was raging in rowhome and extending horizontally. Atiyeh struck out the 3rd alarm sending in the last available company to the scene, Engine 11.
Battalion Chief Atiyeh requested UGI gas utilities forthwith due to the fire being fed by natural gas. Once the fire extended into the cockloft, it took off and ran the row.
The chief special-called Engines 5, 8 and Ladder 3 to the scene once the off-duty firefighters were called back to man them.
A total of 10 homes were damaged by the fire and left 30 people homeless. One firefighter sustained minor injuries. No civilians were injured.
Surrounding volunteer companies manned city stations to cover calls.
** UPDATE : There is NO evidence that there was an explosion nor is there any evidence to support a natural gas leak **

I used to take emergency calls for a gas company in PA. Firefighters going into such a situation is exceptionally dangerous because there can be pockets of gas, blowing gas,etc until they get the gas turned off and out of the pipes. Great job firefighters!! Thanks Bill for your excellent work as always!!

About ten yrs ago, there was a similar incident in the 500 block of N 13th St: a gas leak and explosion followed by a massive fire.
This was across the street from where my cousin's family had lived for 30 yrs. That block was never rebuilt and is just a patch of grass. The cast iron gas mains (8" I think) were laid in the 1920s. At the time of that fire, it took hours for the authorities to locate the gas shutoff valve. This situation is absurd. Incidents like this will continue until definitive repairs are made.

I think he was making the point of it taking so long to find the gas shutoff valve and of the gas system being so old is because those are things can cost lives. An old gas system and no maps for shut off valves is very very dangerous. I believe that was the main point he was trying to make.

I worked for a large gas utility in Massachusetts. Been to a couple of x s. One involved a homeowner trying to rid his yard of rodents. Poured gasoline in holes in backyard. Of course fumes migrated in uto basement. Wife was doing dishes in sink watching husband. Boom back of house blew off. Outside layer. I arrived firefighters were discreetly smiling as i looked for command on scene. I passed a wife ripping into her husband. No one injured and wasn't natural gas.

    • @skipd9164
      @skipd9164 4 года назад

If there was an x you would see debri from the inside all over the area surrounding the building . 20 yrs with a large gas utility in Massachusetts. The bricks would not of been thrown unless a major x and I'm taking a complete collapse of the structure . I can tell you from the video at the beginning it does not look like an x. If you have worked in the industry its pretty easy to tell if it was an x. A lot of arsonist think just make it look like a gas problem but thats hard with today's science

Not sure of the exact sequence of this video because it looks like it's chopped up pretty good but why was the tower and ladder truck so late in getting set up? Seemed on the initial attack a chief would have had those right behind the first engine. Would have probably saved some time fighting the fire from above rather than from the ground.

This is a gas explosion, fueled by a burst gas line that was still open. It didn't matter where the hoses were, that fire was not going out until the gas was shut off. There are electric wires in front of and behind these homes. Combine that with narrow streets and positioning an aerial safely was very difficult.

@@amodernphoenix so what was the true cause of the fire since the gas reason has already been proved false? And could using some natural gas detection equipment have shown if it was present in the areas where the fire was, wouldn't it? Just asking questions. Was the investigation finalized and the results made public? If so, do you know what the findings were? Thank you in advance for any additional information on this fire.

With in the first minute I thought I heard two mag dumps from a pistol. Must have been responders knocking on doors. Hopefully no injuries but alot of people are basically homeless until shelter can be arranged

Narrow streets and millions of over head wires makes for no ladder trucks that I could see. That roof needed an air attack. Too bad. OH WAIT. Closer to the end.

you were only missing German Heinkels and Air raid sirens, this was kind spooky - images from this video them in the allyway were very similar to the images of the firefighters during the Blitz of London.

Thank God for our Volunteer Firefighter‼️ I just hope we can ALL donate money, food, pots & pans, dishes, towels, a couple of TVs, gaming equipment, car, truck, simulators, especially their uniforms, their hats with face masks to protect them from head to toe, as well as, oxygen masks and tanks for them. Some, well actually, A LOT of them cannot get good rest as they desperately need. I wish we could get our brave men & women some nice beds and pillows for each of them. Their rest is so important for them, as well as, good, nutritional food their bodies need. I also would like to see workout machines in all of our Fire houses, even a pool inside for relaxation for ALL of them across or nation. Anything else we could do for them. 👍✌️❤️❤️💖💖💓💓😃😉
