    I've been waiting for this to happen, especially at night. Back when this was made a docking area, all they had was the little pier out there, without a marker light on the little dock. After awhile they did put a small flashing light on the end. Needs (IMA) a bigger flashing strop light on the end of that pier. Just saying...!!!

    It always amazes me that the ship backs into the dock in the dark. I hope there wasn't too much damage BLC. 🤞🤞

      It was a pretty good bash on the starboard corner of the stern. Lots of pictures of it on facebook. She's still in port being repaired, was supposed to leave around 10pm, but it's 11 and they're still at work on her.

      @@327Erich big hole and a bigger dent, but all above the waterline hopefully. They'll have to seal that to avoid leaks if they hit waves. It'll be interesting to see if they have fun with the final repair, like giving it a stitch scar.

    • @327Erich

      @blairhoughton7918 They were cutting, welding, and painting well into the night. Not sure what internal repairs may be necessary, but the outside of the stern looked good as new when she departed Miami around 1a.m.

    She pulled out at 12:27 am. They do have an odd position there at the port perpendicular to the others. Every time I go out of Miami (usually on Royal or NCL) and we do the turning basin I wonder how she maneuvers back in there with that "how about we stick it here" mooring dolphin.

    • @blairhoughton7918
      @blairhoughton7918 Год назад +1

      I think it's aligned with some doors on the ships. It was added when they were dredging and building up that dock to add the VV terminal a couple of years ago. They def built it sturdy. It stopped the ship dead without flinching itself.

    • @larry4111
      @larry4111 Год назад

      @@blairhoughton7918 Absolutely. Yes, I've seen the same at most of the ports I've been to since the docks were generally not built for ships that big. As they got longer they needed more dock cleats and the solution was either to extend the dock or add the dolphins. Most people were probably in bed at the time but wow, what a jolt.

    • @blairhoughton7918
      @blairhoughton7918 Год назад +1

      There's plenty of room in the basin and Virgin built that extension so they have no excuse for not noticing it. Whoever was driving completely failed to reach the usual position before turning. The only question is why. Did the pilot give a wrong suggestion? Did the Captain? Did the helmsman perform it wrong?
      The dock extension does need more lights. It was probably invisible on the cameras on the boat. That one tiny blinking light could look like water rippling if you don't stare at the monitor. It's no excuse for the driving error, but it could have given them a chance to catch it before busting the hull open.

      @blairhoughton7918 Год назад

      At the time they added this slot it was the reasonable place. The construction on the far end is probably taking 100X more cost. They're probably regretting not lighting that extension better, tho...
