My daughter-in-law and my grandsons color in adult coloring books, and they absolutely love these gel pens. The amazing part is that my daughter-in-law never liked anything to do with art before this. I was so surprised to find her using this present we gave our grandson/her son for Christmas. She used it’s so much that we bought her one for Mother’s Day. My grandson was relieved because she had already used up a few of the pens. Lol. I think it was like her gateway drug into the world of art. Hahaha!
I got these last year for Christmas and I love them and I have a case for them and they are working very well. I use them for notes for school. My mom paid $23.78
Keep checking on the updates! Lol. How're they doing? Amazing that they were still going fine 2 years ago! I've had some gel pens die after 6 months. Christine
I had one clog on me about a year ago so I just inserted the refill and it worked fine. For my uses, the acrylic paint pens work a little better so I use those these days but for gel pen uses, where you're taking advantage of the roller ball mechanism of the gel pens, I found these to be excellent. They're thinner in viscosity so, I think, that's what manufacturers are doing now to prevent clogging. Then, this particular set comes with refills for all 180 colors. The refills aren't marked but it's not hard to figure out what refill goes with which pen.
I was almost as excited as the day I got my first 64 pack of crayolas in 2nd grade when I saw the 360.....little bit of a buzz kill to get refills in the same colors. Handy, practical and economical, yes but 360!!!! Rainbow pen...Booo! Using up one color first is NOT rainbow, it’s a different color in the same pen🤦🏼♀️. Thank you for this video, the first 4 things you commented about were almost word for word what I said last night after opening my *cough cough 36 pack. 36 legit colors, no refills or poser rainbow colors. Hahha. I’m excited to use them tonight, you make them look good.
I bought acrylic paint pens for rock painting with the extra fine tips flow wonderfully. Where the pain is acrylic and washes off things easily I'm wondering how they would work on my Stampscapes? Have you tried paint?
I use the Artistro 42 color set and the Miaosun .7mm white acrylic paint pens in most of my scenes these days which replaced my use of the gel pens. This Shuttle Art set is great for standard gel pen usage but the paint pens are easier to apply over other media such as pigment and dye inks for me. There's better flow and opacity with acrylic than gel. But, the good thing about the gel pens are the glitter pen options and just more colors overall at this time.
It's almost a year from your last update. This is my first video of your's, yes I'm in the market for gel pens. I'd like to have seen you color something to really demo them. Any videos like that? Thank you for sharing this. 😃
Thanks for watching! The pens are used in a lot of videos after this one but I use them sparingly for things like colored highlights mainly or where some metallic embellishments might look good such as silver stars in a blue night sky or gold highlights sparkling off a sunset scene. Pens are still working great so far. No clogging.
Awesome! I didn't end up rearranging mine as I was worried about not being able to match up the refill with the pen if needed. I figured the refills are positioned next to their pen. Now, yes, I can rearrange pen and refill but I've been too lazy to do that. They, are a little arranged by type in package --or at least most of mine were (metallics, pastels, glitter, etc.)-- but I should do some fine tuning.
stampscapes If they have the plastic spacers that are only as deep as the caps, save yourself the frustration. Yours looked like they had a full sleeve/pouch type separator, that might be ok. If there aren’t enough pens clipped to the one I have it slides to the bottom of the container and the pens topple like cards. Haha. I now have a non segregated rainbow container and everyone is happy. I just have to discover if I actually have any artistic talent now.
Good tip. When I've done that with other pens in the past, I've found the separation between pigment and binder to be a little more extreme so I tend to try and store on their side except for drier felt tip pens where I need that ink towards the tip.
Me too. I'm so glad these real economical sets are out there. They're still working very well for me but came across one that was clogged so I have those refills that came with the set. But, I'm thinking about storing these pens on their side now that they're a couple years old (instead of right side up).
@@danaparido1496 Yes, the Shuttle Art permanent (Sharpie style) markers? I've bought those for our school art program and they work great and we're able to save a lot of our limited funds.
This is a really nice video, I was surpass to find it because I've been wanting these for some time and was like wow because I didn't see any other good quality video with shuttle art. Thank you!!!!
Latest price on Amazon is up to $30. It would be great to see how you would organize them, Kevin. Also, since the colors are not namesd how difficult is it to match the refill with the original pen?
Yeah, seems to keep going up! I've hesitated to organize them because of that unnamed/marked factor. In some ways, maybe I shouldn't worry about the refills and just organize them in a way that I'd want them. 180 pens for the $26 that I bought them for is still an enormous deal.
Me too. I've purchased multi-packs in the past where none of the pens worked after about a year and some of them never worked upon purchase. I have a feeling the bugs were worked out of gel pens if the reviews and ratings are any indication as most of these types of sets are practically 5 stars with thousands of verified purchase reviews.
Your guess would be as good as mine as I just opened this pack in this unboxing and have no extended experience with them but all of the pens that I tried in this video worked well. However, I would recommend reading the reviews on amazon where it's listed to get a better idea of what people think about them. I generally make a habit of only purchasing highly rated items and the fact that I'm used to paying at least $3/pen from other brands makes 180 colors for about $20 seem relatively risk free by comparison but I'm in agreement --I don't want to waste any money on anything that doesn't work. So far so good but time will tell. If this set lasts 2-3 years I'd be fine with that if I get some good usage out of them as I'm used to getting 7-8 colors for that same price.
Hope you enjoy your pens! Mine are still working fine. I like this giant pack as I don't use most of the colors but for those times that I want something like a glitter or a metallic, I can usually find what's on my mind within the selection.
As noted in the description, these were purchased on Amazon. For video descriptions, below each video on youtube, just click on the "show more" tab and the full description will open up.
These used to be $25 on Amazon but are a lot more as of last week. If you enter the name of the product in a search engine you might find them cheaper somewhere else but these probably come out of some central manufacturing plant so different brands are probably the same thing in different configurations. You might shop for similar bulk sets that have at least a 4.5* average review so you'll know they're quality and won't be so prone to clogging. The good thing about this particular set are the refills though.
@@stampscapes I think I'm going to get these tho. They look awesome and the colors looked even better. May be dumb to spend alot of money on them but hey, I can save up again 😃 thanks for the reply
@@leenastoneburner3422 Yes, the current price is $45 but it looks like all these sets have gone up across the board so it's probably the tariffs that have been applied over the past few years that have bumped them up so much. But, they're still cheap relatively speaking. I used to spend $2.50-$3 each for the Uniball Signo pens which is still the current prices on those. It looks like the average reviews are still high on this set from the time when I bought them. There's another 180 color 180 refill set by Feela listed and, I'm guessing, it's the exact same set but a few dollars cheaper. Even the refill packs are exactly the same along with the font used on the packaging. It's just branded differently. A lot of those manufacturers do that to get a larger piece of the market share. It looks like 5 different companies but it's really the same one.
I think you're asking about refills? If so, there's 180 pens and 180 refills. The refills aren't marked so matching them up might be tricky so I'm careful to leave everything in order.
What most people don't realize is that there's probably one actual manufacturer for all these brands. Same with all discount media coming out of places like China. Things like alcohol pens all have the same barrel but the brand is different. That's because they're made at the same location and they just configure the sets to order for companies. That's the only way the price/pen can be low enough for some company to configure the sets, ship them to other countries, and sell them for a profit after paying a % to host sellers like Amazon. It probably means that a set like this probably costs about $3 to make, another $1 to ship here, $2 for distribution, maybe $2 to get over to Amazon, etc. If they wholesale them, that price is probably about $12. Anyway, to get that production price point as low as that $3, we're talking a lot of similar pens have to be made at the same time in mass which can't be for just one seller. Who knows --all of the brands might just be different companies owned by the same manufacturer?

If you use a silicone spatula or similar, you can get a beautiful smear which looks wonderful on flower centers
Sounds like a great technique! Reminds me of a palette knife type of technique with oil paints.
