- Hi! This is our first venture into bikepacking / bike touring.
We chose to try out the New Forest in Hampshire, UK for this debut trip, taking the train from Alton to Brockenhurst, and then riding home.
The train journey on South Western Railway was great, much to contrary opinion on social media. The driver and the guard were very helpful and pointed us to a suitable place on the train to stow the bikes and sit whilst we travelled.
We spent two nights at Hollands Wood camp site and a day at the New Forest Show.
To come home, we used routes planned with Komoot and navigation using a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt....and an OS Map, which was really helpful a couple of times.
After a night at the Marwell Activity Centre, our last 17 miles home were a mix of bridleways and roads.
Had a great time.
Nice video guys, you have inspired me to do this!
Love the footage, the editing, and that you do this as a couple. Thank you for sharing. 🇨🇦
Awesome video and went through many places I recognised. Thanks for making it and sharing 👍
Wonderfully produced video - looks like you both had fun - you are both very lucky. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Nice one, love cycling in that area, always stay next to the show ground. Atb
Just watching your video. Very useful. I'm hoping to go down there in Feb. What did you use to find your way back to tent. Is there a good signal for satnav. I'm 78.wife died last Yr. So after many yrs caravanning. I decided to convert a van & travel. Going to new forest. Just ordered an ebike & impatiently waiting for arrival. Soon as it comes I'm off
You two certainly had a brilliant time. Did you find any wood to bring home for turning 😀.
Are you sure free camping is allowed out of regulated campsites?
