Really appreciate these last few videos. Today's one of those days where I think im going to clean my computer of unused third party plugins/kits (this video and the past are pretty motivating.)
Its a while since I saw a compression tutorial, I decided to look one up of this fruity compression just to see if theres something i am doing wrong, and looks like ive been doing it all right all along, but I wished I saw this tutorial when I first started, literally the best tutorial on compression!
Man I only now realized that you were gone for like 5 months. Followed you when you had like 4k subs and now its 27,5K, thats awesome! Keep up the good content, I learned a lot from you 🤙🏻🔥
I've watched quite a few of your FLS tutes recently and they are very good and clear. I hope you continue and I hope the guys at Image Line give you some recognition. While you've got competition from the likes of In the Mix (who is excellent) there are loads of channels with much worse content that are bizarrely popular and they sometimes have promos and giveaways that make them even more popular, which seems a bit unfair to me when people like you are producing better videos but don't yet have the follower count. Best of luck in building a following. You'll get there eventually.
Any chance you can do a Cake Pop "Black Rum" riff sound breakdown? It's such a cool synth sound and there's very little out there about it. Love your stuff. Thank you!
I'm a complete noob in FL, i tried to follow your steps. I can open the Limiter plugin, and change settings. But the actual visual representation of my track is not showing. What am i missing?
The simple way I sidechain kick and 808 is to go into the envelope settings of my 808 sample and nudge the attack a little bit. So it creates space for the kick to hit. Is that okay?
awesome tutorial but i do have one minor complaint... the intro has a lot of flashing lights and it would suck if someone had an epileptic seizure because of it.
@@AnotherMonster First: thanks for answering :D And no, not really that much. I understand what it's doing, but just can't think of a purpose or an example where changing the attack or release would be useful. Greetings from Germany and thank you for your videos, I enjoy them a lot :)
@@bruellbart2380 you could use a compressor kind of like a transient shaper (on a kick sample for example) and that’s when the attack and release really become useful
Attack and release are useful for fine-tuning loops with sharp transients. e.g. in a drum loop you sometimes want the kick and snare to remain loud, clear, and with a "thud" that works with the other percussive elements (they get glued together) once the loop is compressed, so you'd use a slightly longer attack so that the click of kick gets through before the volume is ducked; for so-called "punchy" drums. If you use a short attack on a drum loop, the kick might end up sounding too quiet, unnaturally clicky and thin, because the compressor will clamp down on the volume "too quickly" if you use a short attack. With things like bass loops, altering the attack and release can make a sound more rounded and fat (slow attack) or more "plucky" (fast attack), much like the attack and release functions for synth oscillators. You can learn this by experimenting with quite extreme settings on particular loops. (With medium settings, most drum loops sound better after a bit of compression, but if you go super-short or long with attack and release, the loop will sometimes lose all its power and sound unnatural, because the kick and/or snare gets affected more than the hi-hats, or vice versa.
You have to set the ceiling all the way up and the limiter's attack all the way down (0ms) to completely bypass the limiter, according to image line. From the manual: NOTE: To use the Compressor or Limiter in isolation, turn the Limiter CEIL or Compressor THRESH to their maximum value respectively. In the case of the Limiter also set ATT to 0. Later on they affirm this by saying: NOTE: The limiter section can be effectively bypassed by turning the ceiling (CEIL) to max and attack (ATT) to minimum.
I read that too recently but it's weird, because when I turn the limiter attack to 0 I'm getting an audible distortion that I don't get when I leave it at the default 2ms. The only really audible on something clean like a sub bass
Fruity Compressor !!! ive used this to side chaining effect its difficult to sett up,... colud you do a Tutrial on this plug in for siding @anothermonsterporductions
Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Let me know which compressors you use and what your favorites are!

I really appreciate that 🙏
Thank you for the explanation bro that too much ratio sounds like a tiny squeezed low volume sound.
DAVID! When are we gonna do a collab?!
good question!
Unfortunately, when I export the midi to MP3, it ignores de Fruity Limiter, I would like to know how to export including the limiter.

That works!

how do you select the track you want to compress?
awesome tutorial but i do have one minor complaint... the intro has a lot of flashing lights and it would suck if someone had an epileptic seizure because of it.
How about using compressor on melody loops
ty💕
Do you mix with your ears or your eyes?
Both lol
Awesome

I still don't understand for what purposes and why I should fiddle with the attack and the release at all...
You can’t hear the difference in the examples? It just depends on how quickly you want the compressor to kick in or release

I think if you learn how to use 1 compressor, you could probably use them all
