I've listened to this song maybe half a dozen times today and for me it's top5 Nightwish song. I'm not an emotional guy but the lyrics combined with Floors voice bring me to tears.
Top 5? It's nowhere near to the level of Bless The Child Dark Chest Of Wonders Wishmaster Sleeping Sun or 10th Man Down. This one is way too generic and has nothing memorable or personal to connect to.
The ending has a meaning: it is finding port after the adventure on stranges waters. It had the epic momentum when Floor says "On these strange islands...", which is the end of the adventure and then we find port with the pipes, a moment of resting and memories. A movie never ends during the climax. This is a formula for Tuomas to end his long songs. It is actually something not new. If you listen to "The Poet and the Pendulum", "The Greatest Show on Earth" or "Beauty of the Beast", they have this kind of ending.
That ending is glorious, give it a couple more listens you'll fall in love with it . IMHO it's one of the best songs that Tuomas has ever written...... Absolute Masterpiece All 3 albums with Floor I feel her voice is a little buried ......as far as the pace of the lyric delivery by Floor , the more u listen to it , it slows down to the ear , just keep listening to it .
This song is about the journey of life and the islands represent the persons you meet and situations you encounter. Some words suggest it is the story of Tuomas and the 'stormy' history of Nightwish as a whole, which is the reason the vocals are delivered this way. The 'calm' ending suggests the story of Nightwish is not over. I am not bothered by the mixing. Tumas said it has been intential. More than ever it seems Tuomas is not writing songs but creates pieces of art where Floor is an integral part of. The word Quintet' is the original number of members (5); 'retiree' might refer to Marko' and the mad scream of Floor is obvious referring to 'Scaretale'. Knowing Tuomas there are many more easter eggs to find in this one especially.
Reactors know better than the artists these days. I don't know how, but they seem to... The mix isn't right too. They don't even have a clue yet what the song is about, but they know...
I can definitely understand where you're coming from Pedro but to me as someone mentioned, the ending symbolizes "finding port" or the calm after the storm (finding the meaning of life through its journey, our personal journey). I find this thematically is a bit of a continuation of the previous album. I also think listening to NW strictly for the music is missing a huge part of the puzzle. The emotion in NW is delivered with lyrics quite often. I can understand that's not everyone's thing and that's totally cool but I find it is quite a strong part of the band's identity and why people resonate so much with them.
Well guys, this is art, a composition. Not mainstream metal. Have you ever listened to classical music, with a real orchestra? In music everything is possible and we listeners can either like or dislike like. I feel the "rush" in the music and lyrics are life itself, the way we people hurry to get going. The hard part in the end represents our bodys(hearts?) final battle. Then finally, (when Troy plays those pipes) we are "at Home, Free". ❤ I might have taken this too far but this is how I imagine this musical journey.🤷♀️☺️
Missed opportunity? ......The song is perfect, it's Nightwish at its best. Nothing is missing and nothing is left over. Everything you hear has its reason and you haven't even stopped to find out knowing that Tuomas writes music to make you think and to try to figure out the message that is being sent, both with the lyrics and the music. That final part has its reason and cannot be separated from the rest. Maybe you should see if what you don't like is the evolution of the group. If this were the case it would be more honest to come out and say..."I'm sorry guys but we won't do any reaction to the new songs of this group because we don't like the new songs" and that's it, a 10 second video. I honestly don't understand people who do reviews of the music on youtube. For me, it's one of the best songs of Nightwish by far. Music is life and it often has phases, which don't connect to each other in any way and more than often life doesn't end with a high note. It ends with the heart monitor beeping till it draws a flat line. That beeping and flat line doesn't reflect your life in any way-it just tells that your life has come to an end. The song is great and obviously perfect for live performance. And Floor's voice doesn't belong to the front, because no one is that on a wide ocean-on an ocean you're just as tiny and insignificant as a floating plastic bottle cap. Or Mickey Mouse in a distress at sea: "Mikkihiiri merihadassa by Club For Five".
Islands are always strange mystery. From finding Vinland and the Iceland, The great Greenland that stretches far and wide. And the small islands we yet to discover. They are like mini countries that has just appeared for some millions of years. Vikings sailed and find lot of islands but the most special island I believe has to be Vinland. I tell from not just from the anime saga but an island, far away from the horizont, a place where it's not cold, warm and sun. A place for peace. Every sailors love when they find island at least a land to walk on again!
Reading the lyrics, I feel like it's partly about Nightwish itself from Tuomas's point of view, with some parts sounding simular to songs from previous eras of the band. The journey the band has gone through with all the different members coming & going.
This is a Nightwish classic and it will be amazing to hear when played live. The ending with the pipes and choir is a magnificent piece of music, but I would have placed it in the middle of the track, and finished the song on that thunderous heavy guitar work and Floors last vocals. That said, it has made me more hyped for the new album.
This is by far the best single Nightwish released ever , or what ? this makes me even more curious for thursday night ;) in the favorites on first listen, this is unique for me 3 times heard and i cant get it out of my ear... Ghost Love Score needed several years to go so far up in my favorites, but this just jumped up to top Perfume of the Timeless , the song were you don´t hear the main vocalist, needed a few days to find myself whistle it :) and "The Day Of"(f) first half didn´t resonate with me at all, the second half is great
@@APREACTS You have a right to have your own opinion of course, that was just my impression. And no, I don't feel this way about other new Nightwish songs.
Guys you are fantastic but enjoy the music too much analysis i believe....That's Tuomas music so you have to ask him your questions and don't do hypothetical scenarios about why is that and where is floor 😊
First time I heard this I was so disappointed, almost angry with frustration. A third single and still not vibing with me. A few more listens and a couple of days later this has grown into one of my all time favorites.
You'd be kind of right about the ending, if it wasn't the final verse of the song. But it is, so it can't be removed. It may be a strange verse, but a verse nonetheless.
Tuomas has had a habit of sticking lengthy codas at the beginning and end of songs since going back to at least the end of Creek Mary’s Blood 20 years ago. It’s not something I’m a big fan of but at least when it’s at the end of the song and so clearly divorced from the rest of the track like this you can just skip to the next one. It was much more annoying when it took The Greatest Show on Earth nearly 6 minutes to get started before the good parts kicked in. I would probably be more accepting of this coda if we hadn’t already had a pointless long outro to Perfume of the Timeless because I think the first 7 minutes of this one are incredible.
Could it be that this is the album closer? I see parallels to Greatest Show on Earth, that takes you on a wild ride and then just let's you chill as the album comes to the end
@@APREACTS Yeah, truth. But I would never start criticizing before the song was finished. You did. Why not just admit it? You are looking for something to criticize, rather than something to be positive about?
@@APREACTS I surely agree that Floors vocals are buried a bit... at first 😊 I've listened to this song (and other singles too) and every time I listen, vocals pop out more and more. @@APREACTS perfectly stated and I consider you a very trusted source, you have a ton of experience in thousands of hours listening and critiquing music
My unpopular opinion, but I think the problem with Nightwish lately is that they want to make all songs about something larger than life. IMO not every song has to be a theatrical masterpiece full of symbolism and such. PoTT, TDO, and this one feel like they are forcing you to reflect on something. Hope the next album is more relaxed and not strongly tied to a concept. There is a reason why Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful are still the top viewed on RUclips, and DPP is one of the favorite albums of Nightwish fans. The only "cinematic" song there is The Poet and The Pendulum. Also the outro felt like they didn't know what to do with Troy. So they gave him those minutes at the end to do something haha. Hope no one takes this personal, I still enjoyed the song and love the band. It's just that the release of this year for me is Wintersun's Time 2.
The ending is 100% too long. I agree it should have just been an interlude and not be connected to the actual song itself. I know when I listen to the full album as soon as it gets to that part I'm going to just turn the song because the end is too long. Vocals are too low as well.
Try to listen the song without the lyrics as those make the song too busy. Also when listening this song and then other singles, then those will make more sense
Perfect reaction! And I have good news: The channel 'NIGHTWISH ARENA' offers a version where Floor's voice is in the front (where it belongs) and also the other instruments have space to breathe. 🤩😍
@@ChrisPage68 Nope dear Chris who should know better since I told you.. Once again, here is Tuomas himself, remembering what they said to him when H:N was in pre-production: "I remember when the singers [Floor & Marko] brought up the fact that the song melodies and lyrics are made by a person who can't really sing at all and that it adds a special spice to Nightwish's sound ..//.. I often hear in my head exactly how these melodies go, in what voice they are sung, and how the lyrics unfold. Then when I present them to the singers, they tell me that you can't sing that way! There are too many syllables, too many "s" letters and so on. Up to a certain limit, I always try to challenge them to at least try." Now pray tell everyone Chis, what part of "TOO MANY SYLLABLES" don't you understand?
My honest opinion: just another song from "the Floor era". Not the best, not the worst. But i am an old jeezer who can't get over "the Old Nightwish" with Tarja, Marko etc. Or maybe them being all young and not this Bigger-than-Life superband felt kinda more genuine. Good music, but not the one i would re-listen very often.
I feel the same way. I'm partial to the more stripped-down sound of earlier Nightwish albums. This song isn't bad, but it isn't one I would want to hear again and again.
I agree that the pipe tune at the end musically feels a little out of place, but it is magnificently beautiful and I would absolutely love to have a 6-minute version of that separately. If this is what we get I'll take it. It's a great song and I absolutely hope there will more in this style.
Best of the 3 so far. It has Nightwish doing what it does better than anyone - the bombastic stuff. Getting tired of minutes of almost silence in the beginning, middle and end of songs, though.
Luckily Nightwish is a band that never has and probably never will bend to 'wishes' from fans, reviewers, reactors and media which imho tend to cling to experiences from the past. Nightwish however is a band in motion. Tuomas is start, middle and end of everything Nightwish. And, as we all should know, opinions are subjective and should be respected. Question for you guys that came to my mind: Ever considered the fact that this might be the final track of the album?
Throughout the whole song I was waiting for the song to actually start and present something interesting that would separate it from other Nightwish songs and other bands. What a waste of time. This is as generic, dry and boring as it gets. If that was the point of the song then it exceeded expectations.
who produced this album? all of these singles just sound so muddled and off...... it's like they forgot what kind of music is being played?... oh well i still have 97-04 Nightwish to go back to so i am happy...... funny because Nightwish and Opeth are some of my favorite bands but their new stuff just makes me yearn for the legacy of olde
It’s very interesting if not hilarious to me to read all the Nightwish acolytes here who would trying to say that the music is a masterpiece even if it’s super lousy trying to hold up a flagging Nightwish….unreal

Love this musical journey ❤❤❤
Great concert opener 😁
Would be awesome live with a full orchestra and choir❣️
The single that hooked me on the album
last part is amazing
Odin's beard, I guess I've missed quite a few videos. Dude on the left has grown!
That said, it has made me more hyped for the new album.
why does listening to this song come to my mind The Dark Element - "The Pallbearer Walks Alone"? Only it's not so stretched out there
Tuomas mentioned in an interview that he thought Very carefully about how songs connect to the next song on this album.
This is by far the best single Nightwish released ever , or what ? this makes me even more curious for thursday night ;)
in the favorites on first listen, this is unique for me
3 times heard and i cant get it out of my ear... Ghost Love Score needed several years to go so far up in my favorites, but this just jumped up to top
Perfume of the Timeless , the song were you don´t hear the main vocalist, needed a few days to find myself whistle it :)
and "The Day Of"(f) first half didn´t resonate with me at all, the second half is great
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done
This song gave me new hope for the new album.
I feel like you're just looking for reasons to criticize. This is a masterpiece and one of the best NIghtwish songs.
I think you are looking for nothing to be critical off
@@APREACTS You have a right to have your own opinion of course, that was just my impression. And no, I don't feel this way about other new Nightwish songs.
Guys you are fantastic but enjoy the music too much analysis i believe....That's Tuomas music so you have to ask him your questions and don't do hypothetical scenarios about why is that and where is floor 😊
Since you guys mentioned the recent Opeth Singles: will you, Pedro, be doing a review to the upcoming album?
Yes I will.
@@APREACTSAlright, thanks for the answer.
I'm really eager to see whether there will be a similar turn in your opinion as with Yesterwynde.
First time I heard this I was so disappointed, almost angry with frustration. A third single and still not vibing with me. A few more listens and a couple of days later this has grown into one of my all time favorites.
This song is a masterpiece and when i hear the end it brings me tears in my eyes because ist soooooo wonderfull! ❤❤😊 Greetz from Germany! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I remember the first reaction on ghost love score. Opinions can evolve.
Azores are nine islands in the atlantic ocean
09:00 I disagree. I cried... Thanks! Peace!
You'd be kind of right about the ending, if it wasn't the final verse of the song. But it is, so it can't be removed. It may be a strange verse, but a verse nonetheless.
this is going to be very experimental album i can feel
I think this one is gonna save the whole album!! 👍
I hear Anettes era here and it a good thing...🤘🔥
11:17 there's a good ringtone (i don't think you meant "Album Review" in title)
Thank you. Our mistake. Appreciate the heads up.
I think song was great. First single was a mid but these two latest are great. Cant wait the album!
It isn’t the album closer, it is actually in the 1st portion of the album
@@APREACTS oh okay, I haven't looked at the track list yet. Would have fitted as that, though
@@Andy_from_de maybe the end of a concert
It's second track
Some are always and only looking for the things to criticize
Some people will eat anything they are served
@@APREACTS Yeah, truth. But I would never start criticizing before the song was finished. You did. Why not just admit it? You are looking for something to criticize, rather than something to be positive about?
@@APREACTS I surely agree that Floors vocals are buried a bit... at first 😊 I've listened to this song (and other singles too) and every time I listen, vocals pop out more and more. It's weird and nice at the same time. So I don't mind struggling with vocals in the first listen, I learned my lesson with Parfyme...
🤘😁🤘
I feel you guys are a bit of a negative reactors and that is clearly manifested by you focusing all of your lengthy reaction after hearing the song on what you think it is not a good fit leaving everything you banged your head or had an expression of pleasure when you heard the song undetailed by just saying ... well we still think it is the best single from the album so far !
Please accept my humble opinion about your reaction videos after watching them for quite some time 😊😊
Don't let honesty be confused with negativity. If you are looking for people than pander to the masses this is not the channel for you. There are plenty of those around. Regurgitating what they want the audience wants to hear.
I think this is the best of the three songs released so far! I thought the other 2 were okay but not outstanding, this one is more impressive IMO.
That I think we can all agree with
Duskmourn where shadows lurk
A reactor view and an artist view well i'll stick with the artist's one, sorry.
Then why come to the channel to hear the reactors view?
The ending is 100% too long. I agree it should have just been an interlude and not be connected to the actual song itself. I know when I listen to the full album as soon as it gets to that part I'm going to just turn the song because the end is too long. Vocals are too low as well.
👏🤟🫡
15:00 I was calling this song "too busy" for the verse parts. I totally get what you mean here.
A&P first reaction to ghost love score was also quite nah. Not good stuff.
Changing opinions later. Maybe you just need to listen this few times more.
Thanks for the reaction, I agree that the amount of lyrics prevent a natural flow, you said it right!
Floor proves you wrong.
@@ChrisPage68 Nope dear Chris who should know better since I told you.. Once again, here is Tuomas himself, remembering what they said to him when H:N was in pre-production:
"I remember when the singers [Floor & Marko] brought up the fact that the song melodies and lyrics are made by a person who can't really sing at all and that it adds a special spice to Nightwish's sound ..//.. I often hear in my head exactly how these melodies go, in what voice they are sung, and how the lyrics unfold. Then when I present them to the singers, they tell me that you can't sing that way! There are too many syllables, too many "s" letters and so on. Up to a certain limit, I always try to challenge them to at least try."
Now pray tell everyone Chis, what part of "TOO MANY SYLLABLES" don't you understand?
@@ChrisPage68 while Floor is wonderwoman and can do (almost) everything, that does not prevent things from sounding (too) wordy...
Sure glad your names are not Tuomas....
Best of the 3 so far. It has Nightwish doing what it does better than anyone - the bombastic stuff. Getting tired of minutes of almost silence in the beginning, middle and end of songs, though.
this video has very low volume level!
Não era um garotinho outro dia?😜
There is also a TROYLESS version on RUclips... Just saying... 😁😎
Finally something that sounds like more classic nightwish .. i really like it! The mix is still ass though
It's the 2nd song on the album...
@@trepabeard I get that now. At the moment I asked this the album was not out yet. But yeah, I guessed wrong.
This album has the same problem like beyond the red mirror by blind guardian, the sound and the mixing is awful. The song its good but....
Good song, nothing special. If it was not written by NW no one would even talk about it
Throughout the whole song I was waiting for the song to actually start and present something interesting that would separate it from other Nightwish songs and other bands. What a waste of time. This is as generic, dry and boring as it gets. If that was the point of the song then it exceeded expectations.
Wtf is that production and mix?
who produced this album? all of these singles just sound so muddled and off...... it's like they forgot what kind of music is being played?... oh well i still have 97-04 Nightwish to go back to so i am happy...... funny because Nightwish and Opeth are some of my favorite bands but their new stuff just makes me yearn for the legacy of olde
It’s very interesting if not hilarious to me to read all the Nightwish acolytes here who would trying to say that the music is a masterpiece even if it’s super lousy trying to hold up a flagging Nightwish….unreal
On the scale of 1 to Wintersun I give this a 4.
Couldnt be more WRONG.
Really not a fan of this song.
