Loved learning the background of your channel name! Enjoyed hearing about The Women as I liked The Nightengale and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah too.
Great selections! I read two. I wish The Women had been a 5 star for me but it landed at a 3. It addressed some important topics but the romance focus was distracting, just too much for me. I wish there had been more about the other women and less about Frankie’s romantic relationships. I did have a lot of feelings - anger, frustration and sadness and it made me think of things people faced that were outrageous. But I’m not the writer and she clearly hit the mark based on the overall ratings. I’m sure this book will win awards. I see people arguing over it which seems silly. Your opinion is valid whether you enjoyed the book or not. I’m glad many are loving and a little envious! I loved The Great Alone and The Four Winds but not so much for The Nightingale and the Winter Garden. Now, The Frozen River is my 5 star. It’s my favorite book of this year so far but we still have quite a few months to go. It’s hard to pin why some books just resonate and others not. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I agree that I wanted to see more about the other women and even the epilogue when we finally get to hear about other women seemed rushed. I haven't seen the arguments yet but also haven't read or watched other reviews yet. That's exciting to hear that The Frozen River was a 5 star for you and even your favorite book of the year so far! I would definitely read more from that author.
Woah, 500 pages, lol. Based on the cover, the premise, and it being pitched as a mystery, I was expecting The Mayor of Maxwell Street to be a light-on-its-feet, clever, little historical mystery, centering a community and identities that often don't show up in stories from/about that time. But it sounds like those were the wrong expectations, at least partly. I'm sorry it was a disappointment. I might still read it, if I see a review that can convince me the 500 pages are worth it, but I don't know.
Excellent book reviews. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 👍
Thank you 😊

I'm glad you liked hearing about it! I was excited to be able to talk about it in my non bookish update
Would love more reading vlogs!
Always impressed with how frequently you vlog!
I enjoyed The Mayor Of Maxwell Street but didn't think the last third of the book was as good.
I enjoyed your reading vlog!
Thank you and yes the last third I think was the weakest too

Well put - that's what I expected too!

Really liked this vlog and non reading update. A boring 500 page historical bfiction sounds a bit brutal and not worth it.
Thank you! Yes it was a let down still glad I tried a new author though
