How does the camera itself get wired to the steady grip? Doesnt it need a cord?

Only the older cameras would need a cord. Most cameras have slide terminals that make contact when you attach the camera.

On eBay I have both Typhoon H and Q500 adapters for steadygrip or alternate batteries for the drones themselves.
